You're right, Kenny, I was single most of my adult life and bills had to be paid. Mostly listened to the radio. If I had it to do over, I would probably build a George Jones collection and cut back on other things. It just felt like we would have him around forever. I did see him in concert three times. That first time was when I fell in love with him. He kept singing song after song that I didn't even know were his, and I thought wow, I have to pay more attention to this guy! I did and he is in my opinion the greatest of all time. Thanks to youtube I can watch his videos all the time.

Every time I see Jones perform a song, the same ole' thought comes to mind... "Damn... That man could SING" ...There are none better than George Jones. The man made it look easy... yet every country singer for the last 60 years wishes they could reproduce that sound... and they all fall short.

They say I'm somebody so I try to live up to the name But I'm just not that good at dealin' with fortune and fame I've made mistakes, more than I care to recall But one way or another I always get over the fall. I'm a survivor, I've paid my dues I wrote the book on hard knocks and I've bathed in the blues I've been the feature on the six o'clock news Well, I'm a survivor, dancin' the blues. Sometimes I'd wonder how I've managed to live through it all Yes, I've spent a lifetime of living with my back to the wall The records will show that I've had my share of regrets But as long as I'm breathing you ain't heard the last of me yet. I'm a survivor, I've paid my dues Doing my best with the hand that I drew Just playing the part Lord, I couldn't refuse Yeah, I'm a survivor win, draw or lose. Yeah, I'm a survivor win, draw or lose

I am listening to a podcast called “Cocaine and Rhinestones”. If you want to learn more about what George was singing about in this song, you should check it out. What that man went through is unbelievable. CR 029/PH15 “Hell Stays Open All Night Long”. You can skip over the long introduction about the history of cocaine use and go right the the section on George. It is completely heartbreaking.
