Here the Possum delivers another PERFECT vocal performance on TNN in the mid 1990s. This was from Ralph Emery's talk show.

The only artist I’ve ever known who sings these songs like it was his last day on earth. I truly believe he suffered singing such sad desperate songs for us listeners. My favourite George Jones was pre 1970 but he never once lost his ability to convey the emotion

Wow. What a beautiful way to say it! It truly does feel like he took the hurt out of our hearts and sang it back to us. I have been on a really wonderful George Jones kick since the showtime six part series came out in December. I’ve always liked him, but seeing his story told so beautifully and convincingly by Jessica Chastain, and especiallyMichael Shannon has led to me revisiting his music, and absolutely falling in love with him all over again. He was one of a kind, and I know he’s up in heaven now, and I’m so glad he died sober. God bless him and his family, and God bless whoever posted this. I’ve never heard this song before and it’s just beautiful. You made my day. Thank you! God bless you!

@@royfosback7665 wow, I would love to hear your stories about that! When I first met ol' George I was so nervous I could have threaded a sewing machine with it running! @@possumhayes Do you remember the song "Tied to a Stone"? After Jones came out with his best selling book "I Lived To Tell It All" he released an album of the same name and toured the country and abroad promoting it. I saw Jones in Wheeling during this tour, and he sang a few songs from his new album... one of those songs was the song "Tied To a Stone"... well, if you've ever heard that recording, the vocal performance was so good that the words that you just used "almost unreal" come to mind... you wouldn't think that a performance that good could ever be topped, yet when he sang that song live, the performance was actually BETTER than the recording... so good that the audience started screaming and stood up in the MIDDLE of the song, rather than waiting for the end. Anyway, those words "almost unreal" is one of the best descriptions of Jones vocals that I've ever heard. I just don't think that we will ever again see an artist that is so good that every other artist, even other legends say "I wish that I sounded like that". Everyone with ears could hear how great he was, sadly the only one who didn't hear it was Jones himself. He had no ego, when someone would mention his greatness he became embarrassed and would say "I don't understand the fuss".

@@KLUNKET yes in years to come he will be studied for sure . I love them all BUT he had the greatest golden gift and as you said didn't realise his greatness. It was just there inside him with the greatest of ease . Probably the greatest Country Stylist we will ever hear. And ALWAYS 💯 COUNTRY . Actually TBH one of the reasons im still alive

TY, had some health issues, doing OK now. Three surgeries later I am mostly back to myself again! I had no idea that so many people watched my little channel, I had quite a few folks reach out, I really appreciate y'all for doing that! I do however need to search for more great country content, especially anything from the possum! Most of my VHS collection was destroyed when our basement flooded sadly. I had so much great stuff on those old tapes, mostly from TNN- I wish I had been more motivated to transfer everything to digital before the flood happened. I had plenty enough time to have done it, but with work, life in general haha, I would always put it off. I have some random tapes still that aren't labeled that didn't get damaged- hopefully there is something good on a few of them! What really broke my heart is that all of my families home videos from the 80s and 90s were destroyed. I wanted to attempt drying them out and see if anything could be salvaged from them, but the company who came to clean said it was unsafe to do so because of contamination.
