I always say, "people can learn to perform but some people were born to... and Jonghyun was born a performer." He could command a stage and audience straight out of his debut like a veteran, there's a reason he was allowed a solo song only months out of his debut with Shinee and it isn't only because he sings well. He can stand on a large stage alone singing a song with a mic stand and make it feel as if he fills the entire stadium as he sings with his presence while he stands still in that one spot. He doesn't need to do any flashy moves: no spins, no dance breaks, no fancy lights or props in the back. People can learn to become an artist and people can learn to become performers, few people are naturally born artists and performers.

One thing I have to add is that Jonghyun is really like that with his fans ! I’m talking about him waiting for the Japanese fan who went to get a pen ! I met him at high five fanmeet if you want to call it like that ! And the first time I went there I didn’t speak Korean well but he took his time even tho it’s limited to 3 or 5 mins per members ! And he never made foreigners fans bad for not totally speaking the same language he even tried speaking English with us ! That Crazy performance should’ve been hyped up more (back in the day). He started in Korean and then switched it to Japanese. Jonghyun was definitely the center vocal. He sang through most of their songs if you found his adlibs and background vocals for the others. He worked hard.

Jonghyun’s lyrics go from inspiring, cute, savage, sweet, sexy, direct, etc etc.. but they’re very poetic and artistic for sure.. why he’s called The POET | ARTIST. ☺️

As you know, "Pretty Boy" was wrote by Jonghyun. He wrote it specifically for Taemin after having a conversation about the fact that Taemin was tired of everyone seeing him as just a "pretty boy." The song is all about how "yes I am a pretty boy, but I am so much more than that," etc. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was often dressed up and made to look girly. People thought it was novel and cute to make him play a girl. (And, as you have seen, he could really pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) So at this point in his career, as a 21 year old, he was trying to make a statement that, "I am a man now, and just because I may speak with a soft voice and the way I move isn't extremely masculine, doesn't mean I am not a man. As he alluded to in the lyrics of he song, just because he wasn't afraid to show emotion doesn't mean he is less of a man. He was questioning why people don't see him for who he really is. So that is why he was extra aggestive in the performance because he wanted to make sure people saw him as a man and forgot about his gentle image from the past. Jonghyun saw and felt the struggle that Taemin was going through and he wanted to give him a way to address the issue and to show the world the Taemin that he knew and loved. And because Taemin and Kai are best friends, and are practically twins in almost every way, including being soft spoken, with similar "pretty boy" looks, background and dancing styles, etc., he was the perfect person to partner with Taemin on this song. It's always been part of Taemin and Kai's dream to perform on stage together, so they really relish the few opportunities like this. This was the first time they had officially performed together, so it was extra special. And that is why both of them being included in SuperM is such an important milestone, because it finally gives them a chance to work together doing what they love to do the most, which is perform. Kai and Taemin weren't dressed alike in their "Pretty Boy" performance because it was decided that because this was Taemin's song and it was a comeback stage as part of his solo debut, that they wanted to make sure Taemin stood apart from everyone else. Kai was only featured on the song so he isn't supposed to stand out in this performance. All the attention should be on Taemin because it's his song. But that's why Taemin and Kai are the top two BEST dancers in the industry. Their skill level is unmatched, and although they have slightly different dance styles, when they are together they feed off of each other and have a synergy about them. Taemin's and Kai's personalities are almost identical. That is one reason why they are best friends. When on stage they both can turn their fierce, sexy, sensual side up to 3000 and they become the most powerful and magnificent performers that command the stage. But the minute they step off the stage they become quiet and shy and they blush when people compliment them for their looks or performance. Kai and Taemin trained together and went to school together after they joined SM. Taemin is about 6 months older than Kai, so Taemin entered the company first when he was around 11 years old in 2005 and then Kai became a trainee a short time later when he was around 11/12 years old in 2006. However, Taemin debuted almost exactly 4 years before Kai. So even though they are friends from the same birth generation, Taemin is considered Kai's senior. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL. And when Kai and Taemin are together, it's often as if they share one brain. Which makes them even more cute, sweet and very endearing. Kai and Taemin are so much alike in looks, same age group, dancing skills, background, family dynamics, personality, etc. that they are often known as twins -- they even have some of the same mannerisms, personality traits and nicknames. (You really should see some of their pictures together when they were younger, you would be surprised how much they look alike.) Before Jonghyun walked in the room the other members were playing around sort of making fun of a commercial they did for a Japanese ramen noodle company where they were each given a different dance move that they used to crush the noodles. As you discovered, "Juliette" is another one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun. You might recognize the melody of the song because the song was originally a song by the American singer Corbin Bleu and it was called "Deal with It." When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D "Juliette" came out in 2009 -- about a year after debut -- so as you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning. The live performance you watched was from their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul which was in 2016. Fun fact: You can tell this was in 2016 because Minho has blond hair, so this means it was during their 1 Of 1 comeback. Minho has dyed his air so few times over the years that you know what era it is if you see him with any hair color other than brown or auburn. :D As you have heard, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic high note style. Jonghyun is known for his MJ style cry and for sounding a little like Michael when he sings any of SHINee's classic R&B songs. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette," so if you watch a live performance from one of their concerts in Japan, or if you watch the Japanese MV, you will hear the song in Japanese.

Being the lead vocal in a group Onew is a part of - it says a lot about Jjong's skill. All of Shinee are great singers, but he was exceptional indeed.

Jonghyun's performance of "Hot Times" was part of SM's project group, SM The Ballad. SM The Ballad is a group which consists of SM's best vocalists. There are more artists who are part of this project -- because SM is full of crazy amazing vocalists -- but for their "Hot Times" MV it included Jonghyun who is the main vocalist from SHINee; Kyuhyun who is one of the main vocalist of Super Junior; Jay who is the main vocalist of Trax which was SM's rock/EDM band; and Jino who was an SM trainee at the time, but left the company, became a vocal coach and now is the main vocalist of the Kpop group Pentagon under Cube Entertainment. Fun fact: This song was produced by Yoo Young Jin who is a very famous SM singer, composer and producer who has been the vocal coach for basically all of SM's idols. If you listen to the album version of EXO's/D.O.'s "Tell Me What is Love" you will hear D.O. and Yoo Young Jin singing together. Or, if you check out Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry Answer" MV, then you will also hear Yoo Young Jin do the ad libs and background vocals in that song as well. As a producer, Yoo Young Jin is often the one that creates the most iconic moments in SM's songs and performances.

The best singer! Adorable!

I saw them perform at a joint concert last 2017. They were the star of the show! Ming was the emcee. Seeing them perform live - best night ever! And hearing them sing Encore live was EVERYTHING ❤ I have read before that SHINee always tries to make it a point to attend or to be present at joint concerts that have meaningful causes - if i remember it correctly. I have been a fan of them for more or less 11 years now and i think the reason is because of their consistency. Their constant love for their craft and passion as artists and at the same time consistency when it comes to their attitude. They have always been so kind and good natured - which in return makes me see the goodness in all the little things they do. As for jjong, he made me love words. He has always been exceptional in terms of vocals and musicality, but when he started being a DJ for blue night, that made me appreciate him as a very kind hearted one. A person who has a very interesting and realistic view of this world. I remember listening to his radio show without understanding anything - and when i finally read some of the translations of what he was saying - my goodness he has a very deep understanding of life and i learned so much from him. ❤ Thank you for this Yetti, cant wait for Minkey!

Jonghyun is an incredible singer, he can do whatever he wants with his voice, he has a perfect control of it. Jonghyun is also good at connecting with the feelings of the song and expressing them through his voice and his facial expressions. Even though Jonghyun didn't really like dancing he was good at it especially with the sexy ones. He has many charms, the first edit you saw didn't really capture Jonghyun personality.

For "older Kpop" (or maybe just SHINee as I know since I was their fan for 12 years), there is no tittle like center as I understand what you means- I believe this position developed after Produce. At the very start, in their profile Jonghyun is the main vocal, Taemin is the main dancer, Minho is visual (3 members realated to the question). Since Jonghyun is the main vocal, he sings alot. That's why he usually appears in the middle of the group. And when it's time for dance break or chorus with group dance, Taemin is the one usually takes the center position. I think it depends on the performances and 5 members have their own moments. It's not like recently when Kpop fans always argue about who stand in the middle, who get more lines... All of them just work togerther and make SHINee shine the most :) P/s: When people talk about Jonghyun and Taemin "center positon" they mean the formation they always follow when they do the interview/ press conference... Juliette is not the first song where they won an award on music show. The first song was Love Like Oxygen in 2008. They are one of the groups who won music shows quite early in their career (less than 4 months after debut). Many people mistake Juliette as their first win because the Juliette win was an emotional one since it was Jonghyun’s first work as a lyricist.

Before....you know, Jjong became an angel, I was actually just started to focus on him. I think he was if not last, second to the last member I gave almost all my attention on. I bias hop. Not really a strange thing to do as a fan. 😅 I was, ofcourse becoming mature mentally. I was not immature to begin with. Mature in a way that dirty and naughty things starting to move in the spot of me internally. That's why I personally call him "My guilty pleasure" in SHINee. (You can skip reading this part because I suddenly thought about it when you read the lyrics of MOON) Not related and you might get confused but in Astrology, my Moon Sign is Scorpio. I was already dirty minded when I was in my teenage years. It's like in the level of guy's dirty mindedness. Higher than normal girls but I just hid it. Basically have strong emotions that are well hid because....you could say, it's kinda extreme for most people. Jjong has like mature songs. And I'm like either unbothered because it's kinda normal for me or I get a little blushy because I felt it internally like how you could feel idol's hip thrust. I'm rambling.
