Each time I go to Chile, I arrive @ Pudahuel, drive to "Lo Vasquez" on my way to Valparaiso, and the 1st thing I have to eat is a Barros Luco with a Limon Soda!

My girlfriend doesn't own a car (she lives downtown Santiago) so we always take the bus to Valpo and also to Pudahuel (or Uber if running behind) but you always stop at the trans-modal in Pajaritos, I always know the half-way point. Lots of good places in Valpo to eat. I heard the Cinzano bar closed there, that's really a shame.

Blessed Easter to you, Elise, and Moses! Your sandwich reminds me of the Cubano that we can get across the river in Louisville where there is a sizable international populace in their south end. Many refugees being settled in with the help of Catholic Charities, they have let their entrepreneurship shine, bringing all kinds of delicious foods for us to delight our palates! Enjoy!

The Barros Luco...plenty of cheese. There was a place in Santiago called La Fuente Alemana that served all the Chilean classics, Barros Luco, Churrasco, my favorite was the Rumano...the ladies in there served a u-shaped bar of hungry customers with fresh made sandwiches. Nothing like you could get anywhere else. It was near Plaza Italia, and after the pandemic and all the problems the last I heard was that La Fuente Alemana was closed for further business. Another famous sandwich is the Chacarero, with the requisite green beans on top. Hahaha yes, many Chileans would eat the sandwiches with a fork and knife, but either way is ok, and yeah, the sandwiches are huge, but I always eat the whole thing. Jon, try these beers for a good experience: Kunzmann and Austral, any of the varieties are great. Very nice video, thanks for sharing!

Couldn't agree more with you! I loved La Fuente Alemana! So sorry to hear is closed. The chacarero is probably my favorite, with ají verde of course! I think Chile has the best sandwiches, perhaps a well prepared Reuben from Carnegie Deli in NY could be added to my list too..

@@MJA5 I surely recommend it! I live in Michigan and I have to find a good Deli that makes them. Maybe you can find a Deli in Salt Lake as well.

@@stecase maybe I should open my own version of la Fuente here! I have recently started making marraquetas at home (bread baking is a hobby) and I'm getting pretty good at it!

That's a good question! I think it might be the vibration, to be honest with you. I used to live in Germany, and I can make good things, sometimes get very close, but it's not the same as there.

Se llama asi, porqué este presidente cada vez que iba a su restorant preferido, pedía su sándwich de carne con queso y por eso quedó con ese nombre.

RAMON BARROS LUCO presidente entre 1910 y 1915 and Barros Jarpa was a 19th century minister who ordered this type of sandwich in the National Congress restaurant.

Los chacareros con porotos verdes y aji verde. Una deliciosa y harta mayonesa casera.... aca en la octava region una buena opcion LOS LocALES , Llanquihue, OBa-OBA, fuente alemana, manhattan sector vega monumental.

Well, it's somewhat subjective, but actually, the best chilean sandwich (o sánguche) is the chacarero one. This, according different international ranking or evaluations. Time magazine, for example, in 2014 named chacarero like one of the top ten sandwiches in the world.

Please please please don’t copy the editing from the gringo show. You are extremely good without the silly gimmicks. Same with the music. You don’t need a background track all of the time. They don’t help you. Completely the opposite. Keep up the great work!

Hi Tio Jon, So proud of you landing your own show. You deserve it! Your dedication to sharing Chilean culture in English is paying off to be a blessing to even more people. On a side note: sorry for some constructive criticism BUT it’s cringy & misleading when you translate Chilean dialects as Spanish words. You do it often since you are learning Spanish in Chile but if you said those word to any of the other 22 Spanish speaking countries they would have no idea what you are saying in “Spanish”. I had to learn Chilean as a third language 😂 after English & Spanish. I hope this is helpful 🙂

Mmmm...barros luco fue siempre mi sandwich preferido cuando niño, pero ahora no puedo comer mucho queso por mi salud...que triste. Hoy prefiero el italiano con carne de vacuno...los chilenos somos fanaticos de los sandwiches...saludos.

I may be a purist, but for me, Barros Luco is strictly a beef (cow meat) and cheese sandwich. With pork is just a lomito-queso and with chicken, an ave-queso.
