I live in a place where charcoal is not needed for cooking. But on our farm we use large kilns to make charcoal for biochar. We add our crushed charcoal to the compost, and then to our gardens to increase the fertility of the soil. We use pruingings and "waste" wood that would otherwise become a fire hazard to improve our soils. Your two barrel system is simple, and will make large amounts of charcoal, both for cooking and for soil improvement. Thank you for sharing your idea.

Thank you for sharing so very generous and unselfish of you. I have about 30 cashew trees that are too old and so will need to clear and replant and the wood will be used to make the “activated charcoal” with your simple and easy method. We are in Sisaket, Phusing district.

Great info, just one part I didn't get.. You know the burning has finished by looking at the color of the drum or the flame or timing? I gues timing depends on the kind of wood you're burning. Which is the most accurate way? Can we use a thermogun to determine based on temperature?

Sir a small but important suggestion... please put the hot barrel on a few bricks instead of directly on ground... in vedic scriptures it is said to hurt mother earth if anything (including a small burning candle/diya) is kept directly on earth... perhaps to save any microbes below.... so PLEASE AVOID KEEPING A HOT BURNING VESSEL DIRECTLY ON EARTH 🙏🏼👍🙏🏽

Soak charcoal in water drum full of nutrients like fish emulsion, manure etc. It will take 2 weeks to fully absorb the solution bubbles will come out till the charcoal sinks down. That adds the nutrients. Then put biochar in an active compost pile, that will add the life.
