This seems like a great recipe for someone like me with Irritable bowel disease. As long as your intestines can tolerate it (some people respond differently), fish is a great and easily absorbed source of protein. Bone broths too are great sources of collagen and protein to help heal your gut. I want to try this soon.

just fyi once you've extracted all the flavour that you want from the bones/carcass , instead of throwing all of that away i put it into another pot with just enough water to cover it and simmer it on low heat for another 12+ hrs or until the bones are soft enough to break with your fingers [im usually doing this with chicken carcasses, so less time for fish obvs] , then i will puree it with a stick blender in the pot and portion into containers that i keep in the freezer , usually i thaw these out and use it to supplement my dogs food , but its also a healthy/good filler for thicker stews/beans/curries/etc

I think a good figh for soups are golden theadfin breams. They have a sweet umami flavor like mix between squid and crab. It's a bit expensive when i was a kid. Now 15 years later it's very expensive. It's best for soup, adobo or even better make adobo then the next day fry the fish.

try putting some tamarind or sinigang soup mix from the asian store... its a common filipino dish and the tamarind adds that little savory citrus finish that makes it refreshing yet comforting at the same time.
