What a nice touch of humility and class, consoling the younger fly half - you would never see anything like this from a footballer.

A classic droppy by Wilkinson, but I think an honourable mention is required for his team-mate inhibiting Farrell's run. Pause around 1:06. I think it's Matthieu The Bastard, but not 100% sure. Taking up a flat "dummy-first-receiver" position, which just gives Wilkinson a shield and the crucial split second he needed to get the shot away before Farrell could get round him. Also, Boudjellal going mental around 2:34 is hilarious to watch.

the commentator talks about Wilkinson going over Farrell, and I completely agree. But then he said Wilkinson would only go to close out the games with 20 minutes to go. Why? This season, Wilko has consistently been the best flyhalf in the Northern Hemisphere. He doesnt miss his kicks, he has a great passing game and he even runs a bit too. He should start

There is so much wrong with that sentence. Gatland asked Jonny to go on the tour but he turned it down because he may have a game for Toulon on the 1st June (same day as The Lions vs the Baa Baas) if they beat Toulouse on Friday. He's just being loyal to his club who gave him a chance when a lot of other people wrote him off, which is fair enough. Also Jenny....really?

dunno if it was for Farrell or why he did it but Wilkinson said he didn't want to go on another lions tour. I reckon he is just tired of international rugby. It is a big step up physically and since he is doing so well with club rugby why would he risk shortening that career or even risk his health in another lions tour

Hey hey hey, Wilkinson wouldn't lose a Lion's tour because of a poor tackle. You're making him sound like ROG 2009, and that's an insult. Wilko is probably the most defensively oriented 10 in the world. That's why he spent so much time injured. Honestly, Flood only has his 50 something caps because Wilkinson was prepared to put his body on the line 100% of the time if it meant the opposition were denied points.
@mattyy2009
@mattyy2009 11 жыл бұрын
Love how he talks about Sexton playing 60 minutes then Wilkinson finishing. Sexton has been playing absolute shite as of late, Wilkinson is the most consistent fly half this side of the hemisphere. Shame Wilkinson turned down the opportunity to tour because if there's anyone the Aussies are afraid of it's Wilko. But hey, gives Farrell a go in the Lions jersey which can only be a good thing (hopefully given the nod ahead of Sexton)
@hc9870
@hc9870 11 жыл бұрын
Jonny turned down the call, he was disregarded. I think some of Gatlands selections are a bit out there, but he's gone for bulk not finesse. He plans to literally beat the Aussie's into submission with the biggest side possible. Farrell can put in harder hits without the risk of injury, and I for one would rather remember Jonny's great games fondly, than remember him as the one who lost us the 2013 Lion's tour due to a poor tackle.

Wilkinson is a great player, but over-hyped. His kicking game and defensive play were phenomenal, but running with ball in hand and distribution I'd give to Farrell. Wilkinson has always had great players around him, running good lines, making him look better than he was. Give Farrell a few years to develop that composure/confidence for drop goals and he'll be just as good.
@Lobrown94
@Lobrown94 9 жыл бұрын
BonkersdanFTW nah your clueless. distribution from jonny is flawless. easily one of the best most precise passes off left and right hand ever. thats a fact. better footwork than farrell. there both slow rugby players but farrell don't make enough line breaks to be considered anywhere of a decent runner anyway. your saying that jonny had good players round him i'd rather be playing with danny care and manu tuilagi than matt dawson and mike tindall. he played for newcastle, one of the worst premiership teams ever and farrell plays for a top 3 side in europe with stars all around him. man you've got no idea what your on mate. the argument your making it sounds like u don't really no enough about rugby to be making one at all. over hyped? mate do us all a favour and leave the rugby to people who no what there on about
@BonkersdanFTW
@BonkersdanFTW 9 жыл бұрын
Lo Brown His distribution is precise, but not creative. Robinson, Cohen and Greenwood made Wilkinson good, you cannot say that they're not as good as Care and Tuilagi. And if you think Wilkinson has better footwork, you are straight up stupid. Farrell has made more line breaks per appearance than Wilkinson. Get off your high horse, I've been playing and watching rugby since I was a boy.
@amkeane
@amkeane 10 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, Farrell is a decent player. Let's be real. Farrell has 12 years on Wilkinson. Even the commentator talking about Johnny Sexton playing. From and Irish point of view. Sexton doesn't tackle as much as Farrell and Wilkinson does. Yeah, sure Sexton was in the limelight of the Lions tour. But Farrell has so many years left. He could be as big as O'Gara, Wilkinson, Sexton. Give him a few years.

All top fly halves have kicking percentages in the 80s or above. Farrell is nothing special. He's like so many other 'almost top class' 10s in that he's great behind an excellent pack and when everything's going well. He crumbled against Wales in the six nations (although I will admit, he's not the reason England got hammered).
