I think most people are missing the point with this Jonsbo concept. It started with Jonsbo U5 and now they sort of build up on it. The point is, this is the case that gives you full ATX support in what basicly is a standard mATX case volume and almost mITX footprint (just a 1,5 cm bigger in width and lenght than NR200). By changing the usuall position of the PSU, they filled up what used to be the HDD storage room, which in most cases nowadays is not needed. That cleans up the whole bottom of the case which is a perfect substitute for the meshed front panel and supplies the whole graphic card area with fresh air, unlike most of the typical cases where PSU shroud is kind of obstacle nowadays. This idea saves a lot of volume without limiting component size, you can still install more than average PSU size along with high-end sized VGA, and big tower cooler. IMO this is an internal desing which reflects nicely on what the most modern PCs need. Good cooling capabilities for powerful HW, limiting what is not priority anymore - bulky storage bay, not wasting footprint and volume. I really like this concept. It is not as modular and adaptive as your usual modern ATX towers, but it is well thought out, so it works fine as intended. It is refreshing to see such approach, because most of the manufacturers went the opposite way, trying to implement all the possible options into their produsts, which made a lot of "mainstream" ATX cases grow in size way beyond my liking. Personally I like that it comes without fans, as I always replace them for quality vents of my choice. Other brands always left me with unwanted waste. Well done Jonsbo for thinking out of the box with the whole D series.

Also, he setup the CPU cooler fans in the wrong way. It should be installed to use intake from the rear of the case.

Jonsbo also has recently released new variant(s) to these cases, names are ending with a "1" so D31/D41... and how do they differ to these 2+ years old designs? They're adding an LCD screen you can easily display temps, power draw etc. onto, so the front panel becomes a bit more nuanced and interesting. Yet, the D40 is basically still a big case and one without actual capacity for a lot of components you might want to saturate the ATX boards' connectors with, it's certainly far from SFF, its mATX counterpart D30 is better at the SFF moniker application and yet it already straddles the line between SFF and traditional chassis designs as it is placed somewhere on the bulkier side to CM NR200(P), and a bit over Krux Naos/Sama IM01, somewhere similar to Asus AP201.

Enjoyed watching, I Had the all-white version of this case, mod some tall case feet make a big change in bottom airflow around 1 inch or more, the front type C is merged with normal usb 3.0 cable so will lose a lot of speed, the cheap plastic case feet for mine where in the with the screws, I sent this one Back due to paint Defects inside corners, Case price expensive, have worked with better £39/45 case than this one.

Steve is very good in reviewing what he likes. Though there are popular cases he never touched like the cases optimum tech tackles. Steve is not even in the 10 percent of all cases available today. He likes to assume everyone watching his channel is in the same page with him when he rants.

@@greatwall9741 yup he basically just does mid-tower and larger mainstream cases, mostly due to being so busy all the time. Don't think I've ever seen him take a look at any mATX cases at all either.

I really enjoyed that. Thank you. Quality rant on mounting the CPU cooler fans. I was gobsmacked when you said it costs £100. With no fans, RGB grommets, captive screws, so little room at the back, etc it looks more like a £50 case. Compare the (mATX) Kolink Citadel Mesh, available for £55 with two fans. It's a hefty premium for an unusual PSU placement. I do have one question: would CPU temperatures have been better if you reversed the fans? As is you seemed to have the front CPU fan fighting the PSU fan for air intake, but what if you reversed the fans so that the CPU cooler pulled air in from the outside through the rear and expelled air to the front - into the PSU?
@mikep9418

I had the Kolink mesh as a media PC until I upgraded to an itx build. A great case with excellent airflow, unlike the one reviewed here.

I agree with your observation. Using the rear as intake for the CPU and installing the provided rear filter and sucking the hot air out the top would be much more efficient.

Wouldn't putting those two be quiet! fans on the bottom as intake, then another two on the top as exhaust be a better airflow system? Seems like using the two on top as intake is going directly against natural convection.
@Ktmzqw

Any fan turning at their lowest speed will beat convection
@DangerGnom

@@Ktmzqw exactly. The air movement by fans will completly ignore the convection. I don't know why people still think this marketing BS of convection being a matchwinner is a thing, is out of my mind.

I have never heard of this Jonsbo brand before and is not available here in Sweden! I wonder why that Made In China stamp at the back needed to be that prominent and big? That is reason enough not to buy it for me at least! It appears this case copy some of the ideas from the Coolermaster Mastercase SL600M case that I have with the top mounted vertical PSU at the front end and sealed smooth silver front. But of course this one is not up to the same quality and not as good looking since the SL600M is a $230 premium case. The airflow idea with the SL600M is to have a vertical bottom to top airflow which gives it the best GPU temps in the market (still the chart topper on Gamers nexus charts for GPU temps). But I guess Jonsbo missed the memo about this since it does not come with any bottom fans and have really short feet not giving enough airflow at the bottom of the case.
