Do NOT Buy a Yamaha Raider! 5 Reasons Why, Dislikes, Complaints, Honest Review 1900cc
Today on Jon's Moto Garage we're going over 5 reasons you do NOT want to buy the Yamaha Raider! That's right, five dislikes. I really had to dig deep to come up with this list, but I pulled it off! For the record, I'm actually a big fan of the Yamaha Raider. This vid, along with most of mine, are primarily for entertainment (90%) and partly for information (10%). As always, thanks for checking the channel and ride safe!
#yamaharaiderreview #yamaharaider #yamahachopper
Gear I Use:
Lapel Mic w/GoPro Hero5 Connection (everything you need for audio setup): amzn.to/2Wzw6W1
Simpson Bandit Ghost Helmet: amzn.to/2Go1RLI
GoPro Hero 4: amzn.to/2t38USf
Fox Gloves: amzn.to/2D30OOj
2008 yamaha raider dislikes, yamaha raider complaints, yamaha raider critical review, why I don't like the yamaha raider, should I buy a yamaha raider, is the yamaha raider a good first bike, don't buy a yamaha raider, yamaha raider sucks, the yamaha raider is not a good motorcycle, i don't like the yamaha raider, reasons the yamaha raider is no good

Just picked up my first Raider today. I have to agree with all six of your reasons, minus one. I tend to wear leather half-boots, and since I'm used to the way a Road King hides the kick-stand, I just threw my heel to the same spot. Boom, there it was. First try. "Walk by faith, not by sight" my friends. :-) Killer bike. Everything I wanted and more. Pairs well with my 919.

I thought what the hell when I seen the him say that! Good job on the video, I love my raider! Bought it new in 2009. Added and put allot of accessories on it. It is truly a war horse!! He's right, when I'm riding with my buddies in there Harley's, none of them ever bash the beast! I fell in love with it and never went back to a Harley! One thing I don't like is always having to buy a new rear tire, the beast will tear them up if you unleash the horse!!

Got my eye on a 2015 Raider. Ive seen a few of your videos. And possibly 3 Raiders but at least 2. Older vids as well. I'm 52 leaning towards off sports bikes and towards a cruiser. Looking at a multitude of bikes as you might imagine. Used to high power. Want good brakes. Want comfort. Wanna here a thumping V-twin. If your still around on KZfaq? Any thoughts for a guy like me moving into this very cool bike???

I know what you mean on two accounts you mentioned. I took my class with a 250cc and my friend lent me his VTX 1800 after i got my license - big jump from that little scooter I used for the safety class. I was nervous due to the power of the 1800 and knew that if i didn't respect the machine, i was going to hurt myself or worse but once I sat in it, I rode as if I was driving my rig and it went ok. Second thing that you mentioned, I test rode a HD Fatbob .... I was severely disappointed and wanted to more power. One thing I heard - and probably others mentioned - that it has 3 plugs just to a simple oil change?

Owned my ‘16 for over a year now. It really is a great bike. I can totally identify with your comment on riding other bikes after the Raider. I test rode a Yamaha triple 900 and it felt really weak low end. I’ve got used to not having to rev out a motor to get power.

1854cc actually, but still huge. Yes l hear what you are saying, that once you have had a taste of its engine it is hard to appreciate other bikes. I guess it is that it produces its peak torque at 2500 revs and 123 foot pounds of torque is a lot. Even horse power is good for a big vee twin. I have an xv1900. I have a number of gripes. The small amount of travel in the rear shock shits me, it pounds my back. The pissy turning circle is a pain (compapred to my R1150Gs Beemer), the weight of it shits me at 345kg wet, that is a lot given the gas tank is only 17 litres. Where the speedometer is located and not being able to see the indicator lights flashing unless you look down is annoying. In summer the seat gets so effing hot with the oil tank right underneath it and your right thigh gets very hot. It is more an Autumn, winter, spring bike for that reason alone. Oil pressure is too low at idle also and at traffic lights in summer this could be causing engine dammage. Apart from that l like it.

The main reason for big bikes being bad for beginners is dumping the clutch trying to recover from dumping it takes a lot of leg strength and grabbing the throttle at the same time might as well forget saving it

Hey Jon, Love this review and I agree 100% except for the kickstand issue. It's only a problem for me if I am not wearing a boot with a heel, which I typically do being vertically challenged. I started out as a new rider on the 2008 Raider, not knowing what I was getting into but not a single regret. I still have her and put over 70k miles on her. 100% true about nothing else compares. I did pick up it's cousin, the Roadliner to use for longer distance rides, but I still prefer my first love. Can't believe you sold yours, but hopefully you're happy with what you have in your stable.

I bought a new Raider S when they first came out and loved it. The seat was so low I sat with my feet flat and my knees bent. Before I drove it off the showroom floor I had cobra pipes installed. I would not have bought that bike without those pipes. They gave it a great sound, not as good as a Harley, but good enough. I have owned 5 Harleys and two other Yamaha motorcycles. This RaiderS was my favorite motorcycle of all time.

First, I fond the way for the kid stand. Don’t try to find the end of the stand but you can see it on half way of the length of it. Between the transmission and the others thing which the driving belt is on. So that is not a problem here. And yes, you track attention. Even Harley riders ask me what Harley is it. They think it’s a Harley. This baby can make Harley eat dusk. Even for the 114ci. It’s true, not for beginner but again, any 1900cc is not for beginners. Me, I bought it two years ago, on my fifth season, first was Shadow Aero 750 for two seasons an a VTX 1300 for two seasons and this baby two years ago. Reason number 4 I don’t agree. I fond that it is easier with this bike than my VTX 1300. The weight is all in the lower part of the bike I can easily U turn in a narrow street. It was much harder with my other one.

Memyself Andi yeah! Don’t we love it? I would not Gange it for an Harley. Me, personally, I don’t like the horns. Sounds like a car but not enough high pitch for the highway. Can’t hear them there and the intake where it sucks the air. High pitch noise that annoying me. For the rest, it is the ultimate bike. No other bike but the Rocket 3, Kawasaki VN 2000 has that much torque than our Raider.

Found a 2008 vtx 1800, last yr. Saddle bags, Kuriakin grips, pegs, mirrors, levers, 5000 miles ,like new , 5500.00. Couldn't pass of up. A month or so later, found a 2013 Raider, 3000 miles, like new, guy had around 13,000.00 in it with the matching backrest, sold it for 6300.00, couldn't resist that one either. Now I just flip a coin, which one to ride today.

After putting 20k miles on my raider, stock seat and exhaust sucks. Kickstand sucks, headlight needs upgrading, and charging system is horrible. No storage, even a small pocket. Chews thru avon tires, fenders look “ok”, but most upgrade. Speaking of upgrading, it costs muuuuuuuch more to mod this motor then say a harley. To put a stage 4 in a raider you will be dumping damn near 10k into it...most older harleys are rebuilt with a stage 4 and will indeed give the raider a run for its money.. in the end, its too expensive to do motor upgrades.
@JonsMotoGarage
@JonsMotoGarage 5 жыл бұрын
That's definitely something I hadn't considered but am hearing a lot - there aren't many options for aftermarket upgrades. Harley seems to have that covered for most anything, no doubt. I appreciate the comments! Ride safe!

This is the best cruiser EVER!!! Was my first cruiser and it is a great beginner cruiser, I had zero issues learning on it and then I never outgrew it, have had it for 12 years and I still love riding it everyday. My kickstand was easy to use. If your not an idiot, this can be your first and only ever needed cruiser.

How about this for a reason...the most basic maintenence is ridiculously hard. An oil change requires 3 drain bolts. and to replace the 4 spark plugs or air filter? You need to remove the gas tank! 3 to 5 hour job. Mechanics don't want to touch it. None of the dealers in my area (San Francisco Bay Area) will look at it...Parts are getting hard to get. I only found one independent shop willing to repair it.
