In recent days it’s hard to find a KZfaq video on the topic of the difference between men and women that allows comments. It’s so refreshing to hear someone have the knowledge and strength to talk about this. There is a difference and it should be acknowledged. We are doing ourselves a great disservice by pretending there is not. Thank you Dr. Peterson

Came into the video thinking that this was going to be a counselling session on relationships between men and women, and finished the video with an extraordinary insight to how the differences in personalities can really impact a career growth! I'm high in agreeability and Conscientiousness. I've had to learn from my husband how to actually say what i think and be honest about it. It is very difficult but in my marriage, it is very important because he feels disrespected when i am not truly honest about how i feel, so instead of avoiding conflict, it actually creates more conflict. I've gotten much better at not being walked over by people, but it is still a struggle

this talk is so good that i listen to it repeatedly. and sometimes rewatched it for his body language.

Very interesting and as a woman interesting that I see things differently. It’s because of men’ strength that I fear standing up against them and as a single woman I find myself more vulnerable than married women for a host of reasons. Primarily, I have no male partner to defend me (no ring to indicate this either) so I’m fair game and go out into the world alone. One of the sad reasons child marriages occur is ironically to protect women from random men.

So what I learnt form this is I am agreeable Jordan is also agreeable Agreeable people find it difficult to decide what they want and how they're going to get it. Jordan Peterson has learned to negotiate on his own behalf and speak the plain truth. I need to learn to negotiate on my own behalf too.

I'm surprised anyone this intelligent is allowed on a college campus these days.

I find myself to be a VERY agreeable person to a fault. I completely relate when he says agreeable people sometimes don't even know what they want at all. I've realized I'm so self conscious about how I treat other people that I forget what I enjoy and desire because that's no longer my focus-- even in acting class when the director says to act truthfully to myself, I honestly don't know how to do that. Because I'm hyper aware of myself I find flaws that probably don't even exist in me, and I'm terrified of having to live by myself, solve my own issues, and face conflict. I've been living for other people and I thank Mr. Peterson for making me reevaluate myself. I have to learn how to say no and put myself first for a change.

"You'll line up to be exploited" This is one of the greatest lessons I ever learned in life, and I thank Mr. Peterson for teaching it to me. Has helped me so much to see this trait in myself and learn to stop letting others run me over.

This helped me be more empathetic to my nursing wife.

I’m pretty used to pandering to infants. And I’ve realized that most of the major conflicts in my life have been caused by me treating mature people like infants by being way too accepting of their BS.

Dr. Peterson, you have helped our marriage so much....we were always OK and had a good foundation, but after listening to your lectures on the differences between men and women has helped us so much in understanding all our arguments and struggles, there is so much more understanding of each other and our days are so much more lovely and enjoyable now for us.

In other words, women's nervous systems seem to be wired for empathy. They can feel the emotions of others and definitely the emotions of their offsprings.

There are many women who are interested in things, and there are many men who are interested in people. (Jordan Peterson is obviously very interested in people since he is a psychologist.) While women in general TEND to be interested in people and men TEND to be interested in things it doesn't say too much about individuals. It's no use to say that men and women are fundamentally different; it's just that there are general tendencies of each gender. The problem with emphasizing these gender generalities is that it can influence people to believe that all men should be this way or all women should be that way. Then women or men who deviate from what is considered normal for their gender would feel like they don't belong or that they should change.

Wow, so grateful to watch this when my baby is 18 month old now and I am trying to get my work performance credited in the meantime. Now it is the time to play the disagreeable card! Thank you for your career advice for women.

My understanding of this video is: -Agreeable people are essentially yes men. Which makes it hard for them to decide what they want for themselves, and how to get it. -Disagreeable people a hard to get along with, because they dont beat around the bush, and get straight to the point. -Conscientious people don't really care about the personal aspects. But are more concerned with doing what needs done. Am I right or wrong?

As a mother of 6, a keen observer of human nature, and a woman who is very, very low in trait neuroticism, I think you're spot-on that the typical woman's nervous system is adapted to the mother-infant dyad, whether she wants it to be or not. (I'm likely overall quite masculine in traits, as I'm also an electrical engineer by degree, a brass player, a weightlifter, and a INTJ.)

This is an illuminating talk. I do see social science typology as putting people in boxes, however. The poet Robert Bly called himself an introvert with extroverted qualities. I've found from my own experience that I am both an appeaser and competitive. Women I've noticed will often drop their appeasing side when their children are raised and head out into the competitive workplace. We can change through time, and can change due to circumstances.

As agréable and conscientious people, I think we are aware of people’s intention and we know when we get exploited. But we like to please others because it makes us happy and it also brings peace to our life. Thus it also makes it harder on us. However, lately I decided to let people know that I am aware of their intention and manipulation. IAnd I make sure to let them know that if I do what they ask is because I want to (since I like to please people) and it is not because I am stupid or because of their manipulations.

What I love about the story of the disagreeable man is that he turned out to be the highest in compassion. He had compassion for the people who worked hard and were dragging around dead weight. He liberated them.

I was a very agreeable person from birth. Super nice kid from age 1-6. When I got into school, they absolutely tore me apart. Every time I'd trust someone enough to tell them something important to me, they'd proclaim it to the entire class and had me humiliated a million times. They bullied me constantly for my weight, while I tried to be friends with everyone, even after all of that. In the long run it made me a harder person. A worse person. I've been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, or sociopathy (as a result of childhood trauma). I actively try every day not to harm people in any way, but it's super hard. I love being apathetic, cause it gives me freedom to do anything I want to reach my goals, but I also hate it, since I can't want to connect with anyone (even if I want to want). Don't make the mistake I made and be too agreeable, but don't go into apathy, cause you'll just end up miserable in the end.

Mr. Peterson is brilliant, as always! What I wouldn't give to attend his lectures...

See his point @9:03 is so so important When you are in the company of people who don't work as hard as you but STILL efin get what they want, wounds your psyche and work ethic leading to the high performance employees also becoming insolent.

This made me realize why I love the peace symbol and the idea of world peace so much and also why I love kids! It's to avoid conflict and make a better, safer environment for children to grow up in. This was enlightening. Peace (Y)

I can relate to this discussion in every sense, whenever I've been somewhat agreeable I tend to see people trying to exploit that, and when I've been really conscientious and performance driven and let it known to the rest of the group in whatever we're working on, I just end up getting verbally attacked and lynched by all the agreeable people, no one can handle criticism these days and make you out to be the villain if they act like a victim

I am amazed every time i listen to this man. He makes me appreciate what i have been doing, just out of habit. Without even thinking about it. Just *doing* the stuff he's talking about. He makes me appreciate that IQ tests are definitely wrong... Because he's a smart man and he takes 14 minutes to explain what i do out of habit or based on a hunch.

I hate being a woman and thus being more inclined toward agreeableness. I am disagreeable compared to many women but not disagreeable enough compared to many men. As time goes on I become increasingly better at being assertive but I still have a ways to go before I can rival the average man.

From an evolutionary perspective, I believe men also develope upper body strength for throwing.

Jordan does such a great job of defining disciplines. I hope in the future that idealism is more explained like a discipline. Ideology tends to portray advanced disciplines for me, not limited to secularism or atheism. Science and education both being mostly the same for me, teach disciplines in one form or another. You need discipline just to learn in a classroom and so I learn. Great lecture Sir.
