If Ash hasn't seen it, show her the Tenacious D "Kickapoo" video. One of Rudess's big influences was Jan Hammer who developed his style of imitating the electric guitar by using the pitch wheel to bend notes, when he played with the Mahavishnu Orchestra. He developed that style further when he played with people like Jeff Beck, Al Di Meola, and did the music for TV's Miami Vice.

Oh Please!!!! Start a Dream Theater Listening time.. Lots of it. Well be here for years. They are doing there 16th album as we speak. And the last one was the bomb. I love it !!! In the name of God in Japan LIVE would be a great start. Do some investigative work on the song. You'll love the story.

Make sure it's a live performance. Amazing for a first timer to 'watch' them play vs. just listening. Breaking the 4th Wall or Score have many good live performances.

I had the opportunity to visit a workshop with Jordan Rudess years ago where he talked (and showed) his approach to music - truly a magical experience. Later that day I did see him again at a Dream Theater concert. They are one of my favourite bands. Recommendation for introducing Dream Theater to Ash: Pull me under (live), Ytse Jam, A change of seasons and/or The Spirit carries on.

Hey, loved the reaction. If you guy's get the chance, I'd love to see you react to a band called Electric Six. Don't know if you have heard of them before but they do a couple of really cool songs, "Gay Bar" and "Danger! High Voltage" are real bangers and the music video's are so funny.
