2023 Gems in the Rough winner Jordan Smart is back today with another carefully crafted piece of hard hitting songwriting. Jordan knows how to really say something impactful through his words, and this one in particular has been making the viral rounds on the internet. The song definitely speaks for itself in subject matter. We decided to shoot it in the church-turned-music venue, Southgate House Revival, in Newport, KY, surrounded by religious motifs in stained glass and old hardwood floors. A bit of holy communion that afternoon.
Big thanks to Jordan for inviting me out to his neck of the woods, that magical border of Kentucky and Ohio. A lot of folks chatting shit about Ohio, the midwest, places along the old rustbelt corridor. After spending some time there, I'd have to say it's kind of charming, in its own lower-back tattoo, run down strip mall sort of way. Consider yourself lucky if gentrification, and all the soul-sucking demolition that comes with it, misses your city. The kind of place you can still roll into a family owned diner for a dollar cup of coffee.

I like it. A bit idealistic considering the stories of jesus are an amalgamation of older, pre-diluvian, stories of multiple different people, but ya got a good melody and a good heart. Add another verse with a black nobility reference and its a cut for the ages.

You’re confusing Yahweh for Jesus. The new testament is pretty cut and dry with scholarship regarding Jesus and the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John but the Old Testament Yahweh is an amalgamation of multiple deities namely Set and El.

@@aaronriddle9278 No I'm talking about stories from before the Old Testament about death and rebirth of Tammuz in Sumer. I don't think that happened to the person or people that Christianity is based on. They just threw it in there to get people to take part in a ritual every Sunday. "They" had access at the time to the story from Sumer and they used the awe it can inspire to do black magic. Sure there's great things in religions but be careful who your master is.

Fan of this channel and also from KY, but the lyrics are a miss with this one. Christian here. These lyrics try to use Jesus to petition a different wordlview but the Jesus used is easily seen as a distorted 10,000 foot view of Jesus from a guy raised in an entitled "Jesus is my homeboy" culture who has no interest in Jesus himself. Dust off your bible and read Revelations 6 till the end of the book, it will immediately be clear that these lyrics hold no weight at all. Not trying to convince anyone of Christianity in this post at all, just saying these lyrics are paper-thin. If I were to try and use a Michael Jordan analogy to try and bring out a worldview change to a basketball fan, I'd take some time to learn about Michael Jordan first.

This is the mindset being placed so they can soon say "There is no Palestinians" because they would have all been brutally and systemically MURDERED." As another commenter said the region was historically known as Palestine for longer than it's been known as anything else.
