OK so this is the first of 3 Houston games coming to you... stay tuned, RIGHT HERE!!
30 January, 1992. Chicago at Houston.
For a long time... I've avoided putting this game up because.. well, you'll see.
It's just soooo annoying. For so many reasons. But it's also really cool.. for ONE reason!
I don't wanna spoil anything. So that's all I'll say.

I was a Bulls fan before and during the Jordan era. The Rockets were the one team in the West that we all feared. And it was because of Hakeem! They called him The Dream. But to the rest of the league, dude was an effin NIGHTMARE! It's hard to compare across generations of players. But I still think Hakeem had the greatest assortment of athleticism, strength and skills of any center who have ever played the game.

Hakeem was as quick as most small forwards and his timing & footwork were incredible. He was also a bit small - during the 80’s and 90’s - for a center at 6-10” and 255. But he’s definitely a top 4 or 5 center in NBA history.....

This is only to question Rockets fans logic not disrespect them or Hakeem. This is also to question Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell, Robert Horry and the very talkative others of Houston because Hakeem has never been so naive to say what they have said and none of the Bulls dismiss the ridiculous notion proposed by Rockets fans out of respect for themselves as champions and for the Rockets as champions. The Bulls of Steve Kerr, Scottie Pippen and the Bulls others have been modest and gracious when met with the delusions of the Houston Rockets others and their beliefs on the championships of the 1990's. These are records: Hakeem vs David Robinson in the regular season is 12-30. Hakeem is 4-2 vs David in postseason. Hakeem vs Michael Jordan is 13-10 in regular season. Hakeem vs Pippen is 10-16 in regular season. Including 0-1 vs Scottie in 1994. 1-1 vs Scottie in 1995. This includes a 2 for 18 shooting slump thats .111 % being defended by Longley, Perdue, Blount, Pennington and Simpkins. Hakeem vs Horace Grant is 10-19 in regular season. 4-0 in postseason. 1-1 in 1994. 0-2 in 1995 regular season. +AAF-CC Executive Director: It seems that the Rockets didn't have enough around Hakeem before '93, & his scoring average started skyrocketing that year (from 21.2 & 21.6 in '91 & '92 to 26.1 in '93). They just couldn't get past the Sonics (which was a bad matchup for them). They would've played the Suns in the Western Conference Finals, which I think the Rockets would've won. (They had the Suns' number, & Hakeem actually had a better season than MVP Barkley.). The Rockets could've won 3 straight titles (& maybe 4 in 5 years if they had gotten past the Jazz in the '97 WCF).

Playing against crazy people can shake you. Jordan would shoot 35% against Starks in reg season But, after first retirement 1st game in Garden Jordan said his familiarity with Starks was why he hit them with a "double nickle. He usually could never score 50 on that Knicks team on the Road. Houston's only was that Bulls did not see them often...When Bulls got in trouble again Knick.....Jordan-Pippen full court trapping all game...Houston would wilt.

Good game. Hakeem was that x-factor. He made things happen and was great under pressure. He was the one guy I believe could have led a team past the Bulls. A catalyst/leader who I don't believe the Bulls had an answer for. This is a good picture of the way the series would have been if they met in the championship. Still leaning towards the Bulls, but the Rockets had a bigger chance then any of the teams they faced on their championship years.
@at1212b

You're right. The Hakeem match-up plus 3 guards would have posed problems as their front line defenders of Pippen and Grant would have largely been not as effective. Too bad the Rockets always lost before making it to the Finals when the Bulls were on top. But one thing about Chicago though was they were excellent in adjusting over a 7 games series. So as much as the regular season matters, it's not the same as the playoffs.
@mmcneil777
@mmcneil777 9 жыл бұрын
Good insights. The Bulls were amazing at making adjustments. Agree. They would have found a way to defeat the Rockerts, but I believe it would have been a close 7-game series. It's possible if there was a rematch, the following year, with Clyde joining the Rockets, the Rockets might have gotten past the Bulls, with Clyde playing like a man possessed.

at1212 b I think a lot of Bulls fans breathed easier when Rockets were eliminated; they went 5-1 vs Bulls during 1st three-peat, with a couple blowouts. Maybe Phil Jackson & his staff saved best adjustments for June & Series would be over before Don Cheney caught up, but we'll never know. Houston's forwards look fast enough to keep up; Phoenix & Richard Dumas only Bulls Finals opponent who could. Mental lapses like the one that allowed Jordan to slam a missed free throw in final minutes might have made a difference; Bulls were very opportunistic. Nice crossover by The Dream @ 2:12. Bill Cartwright didn't become a center to defend crossovers.

mikem987 The Bulls had a pretty tough time with the Suns and that was a much better matchup for the Bulls since they were a small team. The Rockets success against the Bulls wasn't a fluke, the Rockets were definitely a bad matchup for them because Pippen was matched up against a PF who was just as good as him on the defensive end.
@jasonrichards9431
@jasonrichards9431 9 жыл бұрын
What made Phoenix a tougher matchup by Games 5 & 6 was their depth wearing down a Bull team that no longer had Craig Levingston coming off the bench. Houston didn't get their till '94 & regular season doesn't reveal enough to forecast a seven-game series.

Houston went 2-10 this season in the games Hakeem missed as they fell outta the playoff picture. Shows how valuable he really was those years.

Hakeem the dream is the greatest basketball player ever. He faced Shack, Robinson, Ewing, Barkley, Malone, and Shawn Kemp in their prime and dominated them all. Not one player could guard him one on one. Not one

Imagine if olajuwon played under phil jackson in the east. Even jordan admitted that it was good that olajuwon rockets could not get out of west during his time. Jordan is the greatest shooting guard because of weak east and phil jackson. Some are saying that lebron lost against poppovich duncan spurs as if poppovich is nothing. Look at spurs now still winning without duncan. Jordan an kobe has phil jackson and duncan has poppovich.

If Rockets did not get home cooked by the Sonics, they would have beat the Bulls in the finals. They beat the Bulls by an average of 12 points that year. Maxwell+Olajuwan = Jordan shutdown.

I don't know where you got your "average of 20 points" idea from, but the Rockets and Bulls only played each other twice that season. The first game was in Chicago and the Bulls won by 14. The second was this game, where the Rockets won by 3. Jordan wasn't shut down in either game. He shot 44% for 35 points in the first game, and 34% for 22 points in this game. Olajuwan shot 38% for 17 points in Chicago and 57% for 27 points in this game.

Its a good thing MJ was not in the finals when Hakeem won it twice . MJ might have a loss or two on his record . F-ing Houston was loaded with some great players Sleepy Floyd ,Otis Thorpe, Kenny Smith, Robert Horry,Hakeem etc.and they got better the following years Where was MJ then

dota leavers it's called match ups. they couldn't get past the sonics. sam perkins could shoot the three and spaced it out. sorta neutralized hakeem. just like mad max scared jordon and messed him up. probably said some truth.... oh wait sorry, crazy stuff in his ear about a gambling debt or some sorta marital infidelity.

that move by maxwell in this game is just as nice as any move I've seen Jordan do, Jordan was great but people overlook that certain players shut him down, no one more than larry bird, he did drop 60 on the celtics but Jordan rarely won any games against bird. jordan even says he was trilled larry was retiring because he ruined so many of his game. the league wants certain myths to remain youll never hear about jordan being bested, especially by maxwell

+Jim26D Jordan still had 20 something points bro. That's far from being shut down. 10 points or less= shut down. There's no conspiracy about the league either lol Jordan is the greatest of all time and Damn near every hall of famer especially the ones who played against him call him the greatest
