Highly appreciate these lectures, the perspective. After losing my spouse, I lost direction... Mostly meaning. After 4 years of mess and stupidity, treading water wasn't enough. I made rough goals, picked a direction to swim for shore. Your Utube channel has crystalized and given myself a focus these past months. I thank you for turning down the volume of suffering.

JORDAN! I made a list of 8 things I wanted from my life after completing the future authoring program. I went from depressed, not getting out of bed for days on end, not attending classes, working awful jobs… to getting my life oriented… I am set to finish school in April, I got a job working for the government & have been working religiously on my own projects/pursuits. I’m developing a healthy relationship with another person for the first time in years. I feel calm most of the time. I repeat the trajectory of my life to myself frequently. I totally agree about Dostoevesky. I read "The Brothers Karamazov" for a college class-- "Sacred Symbols and Patterns of Thought Through Time". That was something like 30 years ago, and I still think about it. Especially the chapter called "The Grand Inquisitor." So much yearning to know truth, so much confusion, complications, false ideas mixed up with true ones.

I found him around that time too, 2015 or 2016, when he started appearing on Joe Rogan's podcast. Joe had interesting psychologists on often, but that first exposure to JP just blew me away. Then I discovered he had all these lectures of myth and Soviet ideology, two things I'm fascinated by. And then had written a book to help people with depression take back control, which I was struggling with at the time. I owe so much emotional and intellectual growth to Dr Peterson now.

Kinda helps with the whole memory recall thing. I can remember in my middle school years having a friend from PR named Freedom. Wasn’t his real name and he barely spoke a lick of English. We nicknamed him Frito as a result because of how he annunciated his name in his broken English dialect and accent. However, his favorite snack was chocolate peanuts. For some reason I had a sense of awe and surrealism how he was so enthralled with the excess and accessibility to his favorite treat. Which, made me aware for a moment that he probably didn’t have it as good as I did before we met.

I love writing. It makes my ideas real. I sit in front of my computer. dial up Google Docs and all of a sudden I'm understanding myself better 29 pages in writing a long, long letter to someone I'll probably never meet. Writing is a conversation--with myself, sure, but with someone of whom I have a model in my head. Everything I've ever written, including papers and articles and two screenplays, were addressed to an imaginary reader. It's communication.

The best professor I had in college gave me a C on my first written assignment in his class. I am actually pretty good with words, and pretty well-read, and I was accustomed to getting high marks on everything in all my classes and here I was with a C in front of me? Well, my writing was not concise, it didn't get to the point, it had unnecessary words. It was a linguistics course, not a writing course, but Wick Miller taught me how to write. And it was the best thing I learned out of all my classes.

I've been a long-time follower of Dr. Peterson, but what really struck me about this video is Dr. Peterson's advocacy for the humanities. I am a student of History, and I have felt over the past several years this sense that my study, along with the rest of the sister disciplines in the humanities, have been denigrated constantly, accused of being an area of knowledge that no longer provides any sort of economic or moral value. The prevailing rhetoric now is that young people either have to get a STEM degree, or go into Trade School; there is nothing else in between that is a worthwhile effort. It seems as if there has been a moral darkening over the population, a growing fixation with what is practical and not with what is good. Yet we've seen with the handling of the pandemic that there is a need for a humanitarian education, because we are increasingly faced with the crises of unethical science and governmental policies. I hope that soon, Dr. Peterson will not have to dissuade people from studying the humanities, and that our western civilization once again rediscovers the importance of the humanities. After all, the study of the humanities was one of the only things that pulled Europe out of the Dark Ages and into the Renaissance and Age of Reason.

Dr. Jordan Peterson put into words what I have recognized to be true for many years but could not articulate clearly. I am grateful for his teaching because it allows me to discuss life issues with my sons in conceptual terms rather than just anecdotal stories and my own life experiences. Thank you Dr. Peterson!

I can see, old as I am, how he would have been and I hope still is, a truly inspirational lecturer. The one you REALLY wanted to be in the class of. A true, great, teacher. THESE are the people we NEED in education, at every level. I studied a crap degree - as in it was great if you wanted to be a chartered accountant. But I did something called The International Management Programme...so I had an AMAZING professor lecturing on the papers in my 4th year, to do with international management. And that experience, was the first time I ever had my mind and horizons in an intellectual sense, truly broadened.

I literally talked to my sons about NOT going to university because of the educational rot, the programming to become an “activist” or being molded into a mouth piece for political bias through indoctrination The both joined the Military and have great careers ahead of them. Hearing Dr Peterson talk about the decay of our higher educational system, confirms my choice of conversation with them

About halfway through a man mentions a smoking addiction and how he realised he used it as an excuse to not do certain things. That was definitely a big part of it for me. It's sad but especially after I had my child and was done breastfeeding I started again because I was around it and that made it easier to pick it back up..but many family members were only willing to watch my child when I was smoking. So I kept smoking because "why not" (and I was depressed and stressed). Until I started to realise I didn't want a smokers cough and I didn't want to spend the money...then I realized I could just say I'm smoking but choose to breathe and take a moment instead. One family member did thankfully understand and was kind to knowingly watch my child for a bit while I just had a break (without smoking). Back to being honest..I discovered who I wanted around me and my child anyway vs who I didn't. The people that were refusing to watch my kid if I wasn't smoking...all of them ended up being people that I now cut out of my life for many reasons. Just being honest about that one thing was a big hint.

I really enjoyed this lecture Dr Peterson, thank you. I have always been curious of your further perspective on Buddhism and furthermore, holistic psychology, working with the connection between body and mind. Like you mention in this video that the ultimate maxim from Buddhism is "Life is suffering" but the Buddha also delivered a guide on how to elevate that suffering. I would love to hear your thoughts for example on how far you think a person can come in terms of feeling happiness, meaning etc, by working on him/herself from the inside, "from the root" as Buddha famously said. That is, in how I translate it, resolving trauma stored in your memory and body for example. I, for example, see myself as ultimately a spirit that is bound to the chains of misery and suffering due to this spirit being "locked in" by psychological mumbo-jumbo, that is, trauma that interrupts the natural flow of life (the natural flow of our spirit). If this trauma is addressed and leviated, our spirit will naturally guide us towards the life we naturally want to live. Because our natural state (spirit) is a state of joy, peace, clarity and love. Oh, how I would love to have a conversation with you about this haha. Anywas, thanks a lot Dr Peterson for your work, I truly admire you and your competence.
