I went for my usual early morning run along The River Ivel near Biggleswade/Broom/Langford in Bedfordshire this morning, after very heavy rain.
The river was flowing fast and deep and had broken its banks in a few places; fields were heavily flooded.
the weir gate at the lock by Jordans Mill was lifted as high as it was go, so the flow was not restricted in any way. I've not seen it do that before.
I think the amount of water had flushed out a few animals.
A muntjac ran out from behind a tree next to me, close to the water.
I saw a kingfisher nearby too.
Then came the two mink (see last minute of this video). They both entered the water, but about a minute apart. One swam across to the opposite bank, one swam towards me. I didn't dare move. My little compact camera couldn't focus through the weeds on the bank, but also served as camouflage for me. I was still pleased that I'd actually caught one on camera - and it came so close.
