Same here.. I did know the version of ' you keep me hangin' on ' by vanilla fudge.. The whole soundtrack is pretty great.. Thank you Jose, for the brilliant interpretation of this song.. And Quinton also..

@@bananacake9289 we here in California are just warming up after a long wet winter...some mountains have 20 Meters of snow on them! It's going to be a Deluge when it comes down from the mountains! I work up in Seattle Washington sometimes so Im very aware of cold damp and grey... it's kinda depressing... but Soooo beautiful when the 🌞 comes out! I've worked all over the USA ( As a Terrazzo flooring worker...hard work but beautiful) I'm just starting up my own Mosaic Artwork Business at 59 better late than never! LOL... There is a huge call for artists now in America, I really enjoy doing artwork in Terrazzo Mosaic..wish you could see my beautiful Butterfly I'll soon be starting...A Giant Black Swallowtail butterfly I will be using lots of black of course and lavender, black and lavender go delicious together! Ill be using Turquoise glass aggregate and abalone shell In the lavender...and on the outter tips of the wings I'll be putting large fabricated pieces of Abalone shell in kinda of tear drop forms...I can't wait to get it started...I'm waiting on materials. It would definitely brighten up your day! The layout pattern will have over 90 individual panels handcrafted! They have machines now that make the layout but I prefer doing it by ✋ ✋.... 🙋✌️💞🌞. I'm enjoying the cool spring weather come June it will be Hot till September ugh! My Dog and I go swimming alot when it gets too hot, or we jump in the car and head for the Ocean where it's always beautiful and cool! 👣👣👣👣🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐳🐳💦💦💦🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

I found the movie funny, well made. But pointless... First of all TOO MUCH FUCKING FEET SHOTS. We get it, their hippies and its tarantino, but thats too much.

I love the harmonies in the original, but the Spanish language and guitar, and the way he sings it with such yearning, totally changes the context and transforms this song into the story of a man who's missing his people, his culture, his old neighborhood, his home. You feel the love for the city and the homesickness and a sense of displacement in a way that the original, as beautiful as it is, just can't convey.

I had this 45 when I was a kid, the flip side was Light my fire. Both in my opinion were better than the originals. They both had a feel that transcended studio music to a more soulful rendition that touched the soul and attained what the songwriter was intending to convey.

This song, in Feliciano's version, captures alone the essence of the film. Feliciano played this song by tearing the beat away, exposing the anguish it really expresses. The protagonist of the song would like to escape from his world for a better place, but while he sings he (or she) himself knows that this will never happen: his dreams will remain unfulfilled. And just like the protagonist of the song, the dreams of all the characters in the film, in reality, will also be shattered. The title "once upon a time ..." says it all: this is represented as a beautiful story of friendship and redemption, but it is a fairy tale, the desire for something better that will never happen. A dream. Sharon Tate, her baby, her dreams and her friends won't get through the night. Their killers will end up killed or locked up for the rest of their life in prison. Rick, or whoever he represents, will never meet Polanski and his career will end in oblivion, and Cliff will follow him. Maybe only friendship can survive this. Maybe.

You worded it perfectly. And the ending of the film captures this as well, when Rick meets Sharon and her friends, and you remember that in reality, they all died. Which is why, despite the fact the film has a happy ending, it's very sombre in tone, because like you said, it represents what everyone wanted to actually happen, a fantasy. A fantasy that can never be.

I just saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In the scene that comes out this amazing song, I have begun to cry for the magic of the moment. And here I am, listening it again and again. Master Feliciano thanks for this great cover. And you Tarantino for making it happen.

I was 16 in 1969. I met my future wife that year. We were in high school then,. We have been together 51 years now. It was the peak of the American dream. $.25 per gallon gas. $1.05 minimum wage. I love how he showed the 1960's in this film. wonderful film!!

I am from the Midwest, a Hip-Hop musician who digging in the crates when I came across this version of the classic Mama and Papa's track and was blown away. This man owns this song, his voice takes you to places that make you long for home whether you are from California or anywhere else. Man, this was dope !!!

I remember the first time I ever saw / heard of Jose Feliciano: The Mike Douglas Show! I was probably12-13 yo, sick, staying home from school, and watching TV. He blew that impressionable "kid" away!!!! This version of one of my favorite songs of all time, blows this 67 yo man away. Much respect for his great guitar playing, and soulful voice. Now there are TWO versions of this song, which are amongst my favorites of all time..............

Mike Douglas (square though he was) was a great host. He used to have great musical guests, like John Lennon, Chuck Berry, John Sebastian, and gave them enough time to show their wares, sometimes as a guest on consecutive days. A bygone era.

Killer version, until Yoko starts doing her "turkey calls" during the song and if memory serves me right, Chuck Berry had her mike shut off!! I'm originally an Ohio boy. If I'm not mistaken, Mike Douglas' originated out of Cleveland, and Phil Donohue, originally broadcast out of Dayton. Pun intended; I was supporting my "home boys".

Being a Californian living in Los Angeles this song hits hard The culture here is something else and living here makes it a love hate relationship which makes you love her even more “If I was in LA”❤

On this same album is a cover version of " The Doors" , " Light My Fire" which which was a massive international hit for Feliciano in 1968 and brought attention to the album here, winning multiple Grammy awards.

Very few can take a great song and make it their own. This version is amazing. I would not say it is better than the original but it takes the song to a different level. A different dimension.

This song has a lot of meaning to it to me, my brother left from jersey to live in La and he always daydreamed of living in Californiavtil it came true in very late 70s and built his whole family and liveed there until he died at 66 in 2019 , and I cry cause he made that dream come true and thats all he ever wanted to build a family in California and live out his life there with no regrets and I cry every time I hear it now , cause hes not here anymore and he was my best friend in life and I miss him so, what a good brother hes been to me!!

My dad had the album and I pulled it out to listen to Light My Fire in 1995 and I ended up playing this song first out of curiosity to hear Jose’s version and I haven’t ever been able to get it out of my mind since that time. It’s got so much emotion in it compared to the Mamma’s and Poppa’s. It really can bring tears to your soul!

Jose Feliciano was so soulful. That dude was a pioneer in a lot of ways. He was the first pop musician to perform the Star Spangled Banner at sporting events, which led the way for other entertainers to do it. His Christmas song. Feliz Navidad is known worldwide in english and Spanish. Again a true pioneer and a notable Boriquen musician. Viva Puerto Rico 🇵🇷❤️💕♥️

I also recognised that Tarrentino used this version and I prefere it over the version of the mamas and the Papas. Jose´ is and has been such al passionate musician. I just love almost everything of his music, but specially this kind of jazzy version of California Dreaming.

Very underrated progressive pop psych tune of mid 1968. Jose kicks ass with "Light My Fire" and "California Dreamin." 1968 a yr. that will always stick to my mind with so many events with gutsy issues!
