Their has never been a movie that has influenced my life more than this film..I remember watching this in theatres when I was 15 and the first thing after seeing the movie was grabbing a camera that used to be my brothers... now being 22 and about to finish my post-grad in art (Photography) and the previous year being one of 3 students to be nominated for the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography student photographer of the year..I can't thank this movie enough for how it's shaped my life. Update (2024): Wow I forgot about this comment I posted..Thank you for all the kind messages..still going strong going into 2024!

This movie is a perfect representation of an introvert's life. Always wanting to break free, but paralyzed by our daydreams. We spend our life in constant daydreams, never really having the courage to break out of that internal monologue and live our lives. Also, that quote by Sean Penn about staying in a moment and not letting photographs ruin the moment is exactly how I feel whenever I experience those moments. You just wanna stay in it and bask in it, soak it all in and not ruin it by wasting time pulling out the camera and stopping for a pose. You save it in your mind, and there, whether it degrades through time and old age, you'll cherish it. Whether it's crystal clear or foggy from poor remembrance - you'll always cherish the feeling of those memories, no matter how poor they become.

That's not being introverted that's being socially awkward and anxious. I'm introverted in the sense that crowds drain my energy and new activites tire me out. That doesn't stop me engaging in social settings and exploring new things. Stop making excuses and hiding behind the cover of being an introvert. Deal with your social anxiety and quit whining

Travelling is awesome. But the most important lesson here is to be honest with yourself. Do not fall into the trap of society saying you are wonderful as you are and you fit into a certain category. You're not and you don't. You are not obliged to be the person you were 5 minutes ago. You can redefine yourself and go after what it is you truly want, but it takes commitment and decisive action. Failure is as much a part of life as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, you have to put your ego aside and learn from these mistakes. Make yourself a better person by DOING things. Don't worry, nothing bad can happen to you. Just imagine everything will be all right and the worst thing that can happen is that people laugh at you, reject you or perhaps even insult you. But none of that matters. You are a good person and you are worth love, happiness, fulfillment, excitement, adventure, ... You have to be able to go after and take what it is you truly want in life, on this planet where life is fleeting and uncertain. Don't do it for other people but do it for yourselves.

"If I like a moment, for me personally, I don't like to have the distraction of the camera...I just want to stay in it... right there, right here." This line specially inspired me to quit all my social media where I used to share all my thoughts and activities. I was more concerned about my virtual life rather than actual reality. But, nowadays, I don't capture every special moment, I just enjoy it diving deep inside that moment.

In 2020 I had lost a lot, from friends to family, and essentially had to build myself mentally and physically back up. For two years I worked on building myself back up; making mistakes left and right, but always learning from my mistakes and embracing change. Back in March I had applied for an internship, I started thinking that I wasn’t qualified for the internship. I had applied to over 60 internships and either got denied or ghosted, but when I opened up the application portal for this internship I started getting major imposter syndrome. I turned on this song and when I heard the part “do whatever just to stay alive” I said screw it and applied. After two years of hard work, here I am now with a NASA internship, as happy as i could be, but humbled with the fact that I won my fight. When in doubt just remember, do whatever just to stay alive.

You do not have to wait if you take the right precautions. Ive been traveling since the Summer of 2020. I wear N95 masks and eye protection when traveling. I frequently wash my hand and have wipes to clean surfaces such as tables and arm rests. When I backpack or ride my bicycle, I have a neck gator that I can use to quickly cover my face if I pass a crowd of people. At the end of the day when I get to my room, I will use mouthwash and take a shower and wash my clothes. The pandemic has made me spend more time outdoors, which has been good. I pack my lunch more often and eat outside. Traveling to another country is difficult. I went to Korea in December and had to stay in quarantine for two weeks. I have always loved traveling. What I love about this movie is how he has a goal, but starts to live in the moment. Too often people get caught up in the destination, but forget that the true adventure is in the Journey. Safe travels my friend.

@@JoeMandell- That’s amazing how you were able to do that despite the circumstances we’re in. Although I would love to do the same, I don’t think that it’s the right time for me to travel right now for various reasons. Instead, I’m just gonna take this time to plan my future travels and adventures. I can’t wait for the day I can travel again. I envy you for being able to do it. I hope you have fun and stay safe/healthy!!

In a way, I'm a lot like Walter in the fact that as a 29 year old adult, I still have my imagination very bright and vibrant. It has gotten smaller over the years, but with the commute to school and work and for groceries, my music makes this dreary and mundane world of mine, magical. I still have my imaginary characters, although I don't have my imaginary friends anymore. And I think of audcious and crazy scenarios. But lately, it's like the light has left my eyes. Even so, there is one imaginary character that hasn't left and that is myself and sometimes my god. When I'm down for the count, a brighter self, pushes me forward. She's mystical in the way she looks at me. Aware of my potential and flaws, and she doesn't reject me anymore. She helps me cope with the fact that we are very human and it's okay to be. As long as we keep trying every day and year to be better. In the clouds and in the trees I see little glimpses of my god and I wonder...about the people who passed and the people who will come and everyone here still struggling to be alive. Will they keep their dreams? Or will they bury them? I pray that we each can find at least one dream out of all the dreams we make up and choose to guide our lives with. Because in the end it's just daydreams. A daydream that became a goal and a dream, that you tied your life and time to, dedicating...unsure if it'll bring you happiness at all. And that's amazing and it's crazy. But it's human and real. For Walter, he was able to break through his own barrier of imagination and walk hand in hand with reality and his dreams of his better and outgoing self. I aspire that still. And will continue to work on it. For what a grand dream to dream alive...with waking eyes.

I've watched this multiple times already, and recently it popped up on Netflix, prompting me to watch it again. It serves as a powerful reminder that life is short; we should explore the world, savor every moment, and maximize our enjoyment. Let's not merely dream but take decisive actions to make those dreams a reality.

This movie is amazing. I remember watching it in theatres and not really expecting anything - it is a Ben Stiller film after all - but I sat until the end credits had rolled by, just basking in the absolute brilliance. I'm not going to give some story about how I am an introvert and all that, but this movie is one of the few which have stayed in my mind since I saw it the first time. From the actual plot, to the excellent choice of music and the breathtaking cinematography, Walter Mitty is a movie which should have won all the awards. It is inspiring and beautiful, eliciting a profound emotional response without necessarily trying to. It is amazing!

Maybe coincidence but this popped up on my youtube recommendations on the 3rd anniversary of my Partner passing away (was only 47) .I remember the first time I saw it I thought it was cool but slightly odd in a good way, But now I see the clips I realise how much more depth there is to it, maybe it's her helping to get my life back on track after losing her. Anyway just ordered the DVD , it will be 1 of my long term keepers for inspiration.

one moment really resonated with me in this film - when it is revealed that he settled for mediocrity and the security it brought to him and his family after the death of his father. it was an honorable thing that he did, taking up employment at papa john's so he can be financially responsible for his mother and sister and giving up his passion all at the same time. I think in life, we all face moments with decisions such as the one he had to make and settle for security and mediocrity for himself, or his loved ones. it is touching that when the opportunity to break free was presented, he took it and found his earlier self that was passionate for life

I agree. It is such a beautiful part of the film Also, the fact that he never resented it or felt sorry for himself. He worked hard and found value in his choice. Giving up his dreams for his family never felt like a burden to him because his family were what mattered most. And the way he was loved by them was so sweet and touching. It's a beautiful film for so many reasons.

This movie so beautifully (along with the amazing soundtrack) encapsulates "the heroes journey" which at a fundamental level is what we are all on... And all we have to do is step "into the flow" so simple and yet so very difficult...you can see from the comments on this video that this movie has, and will continue to be a waymarker for those that are seeking the path to that place. Thank you to all the wonderful creatives that brought this gift to the world. It will be quietly be there for many years to come into the lives of those that seek it at just the right time.

This movie means so much to me... I had depression for a long chunk of my life... and I never had the courage to extress my true feelings, do anything I wanted or leave my routine/comfort zone in any way... Just a tiny clock gear spinning exactly as everyone else expected me to... When I watched this movie, it gave me so much inspiration and hope, and I wished I could break out of that prison. It was in a moment I couldn't stand living one more day that I ended up making a decision to simply change my life and myself... I would no longer hold back my feelings or who I am. I would go out, start being true to myself, make friends, travel abroad and live crazy adventures! ... And so I did. I watched this movie twice in my life. The first time, I was Walter in the beginning of the movie. The second, I was Walter at the end. To this day, the movie has a special menaning in my life, and this song will always be to me a hymn of hope and greatness! ^^

I remember seeing the Aurora Borealis for the first time 4 Years ago on a Trip to the North Cape in Norway. It was unexpected and in a Place too far South for regular appearance. When we realized it, I immediately started to set up my Camera to get a good shot. It wasn't working, and I remembered Sean´s Quote. I left the Camera, cracked a cold one, joined my Friends who were laying on Tables and Benches and for the rest of the Night not one Word was spoken.
