He wanted to go to Chelsea and was threatened not to leave Liverpool. Money was his king and he was leaving but fear made him stay. Google it. But regardless he was an amazing player and captain. Don't make the likes of him or Keane anymore. Wore their hearts on their sleeve and carried the teams at timed.

Such a shame the team didn’t get real depth until Gerrard left. We had a few great teams like the one with Torres, Alonso, Mascherano and of course the one with Suarez, Sturbridge, Coutinho, Sterling… but it was only when Klopp came did the team really become a consistent title challenger. Gerrard would have finally had what Lampard had, a strong team around him in all areas

@@cjewe1z i do understand it, i watched the game, and yes what he did wasn‘t great, but he didn‘t deliberately pinch the eye if you‘d have a closer look. He clearly set his hands to Vilanovas shoulder, who turned around which is why the finger landed in the eye. But that is things you dont understand. Perfect villain story for the media, i get it, but you should be ashamed of yourself still remembering one bad moment of an absolutely awesome guy with a great aura and staggering charisma. In fact, it just shows how much of a snowflake you are and why football is getting more and more of a sport for softys who have good talent and play well for some time before disappearing on the stands for a year or more. But still getting pockets filled with money, doing nothing, no commitment to their club, coach or teammates. I am sure you would also be the guy to blame Jose for the downfall of Dele Alli, cause it suits you.

I'm a United fan but players as talented as Gerrard don't come around often and for that same player to be this loyal, is almost a miracle. I remember back when people used to say you can't have Gerrard and Lampard in midfield at the same time for England because they just overlap each other, so which one do you choose... but for me there was no contest - Gerrard all day long.

Fergie wanted him when United had Scholes, and Mourinho wanted him when Chelsea had Lampard. Says it all. Shame we never got to see Gerrard in his final form. One of the greatest CMs ever. Edit: Ancelotti also wanted him when Milan had Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka.

It doesn't quite ''say it all''. He wanted Lampard and Gerrard together. Gerrard and Scholes can't touch Lampard's combined goals and assists. Lampard was a creative and goalscoring monster. Jose wanted Gerrard's physical dynamics beside him, not instead of him.

I remember messi in 2010-11 being asked at time constantly about his and Ronaldo...messi was still not captain yet and mentioned he and Cristiano were lucky to play on great teams. That for him the stats weren't as important as those who inspired teammates to play for shirt, intangible leadership quality, and how Gerrard was perfect example of this and how he'd understand people preferring Gerrard or maldini. Was one of million reasons you just have to lio approach, messi and Gerrard are huge fans of each other. As was a Suarez a fan and common friend of both. Some of biggest goals and strikes you'll ever see🤙

For me, Stevie G is the greatest player in the history of Liverpool FC. The combination of his abilities as an attacking midfield player, a scorer of spectacular and important goals, a committed, inspirational and motivated team member, and possibly the perfect role model as captain and ambassador, Stevie was the ultimate professional on the field, feared but respected by opponents, and loved and admired by his own fans and people.
