Guardiola, en cambio, aunque con poco físico y casi nulas capacidades para la recuperación, era un maestro en la dirección, casi siempre a uno o dos toques, prodigándose en maravillosas asistencias a los delanteros (hubo muchos goles de Romario y de Ronaldo a pase de Guardiola), tenia un pase largo que no tenía Redondo, y también tenía, como el argentino, una capacidad de liderazgo sobresaliente en cada partido.
