Rich IS the GOAT. Mat has won just as many golds in individual, but what Rich has done for the sport has not and probably will not be matched by any single competitor again. The dude changed the way athletes train, the way athletes compete, he had the look, was marketable as hell, kept camaraderie with other athletes and enforced a high standard of supporting other athletes on the floor, he was well spoken and good on the mic, he won and was dominant, and he took the initiative upon himself to put CrossFit on his back and be the ambassador for the sport when he didn’t need to be to market to new audiences. IMO, that combined with his individual AND team career makes him the GOAT.

I agree. Rich is an amazing athlete. I believe if he was still competing as an individual, He'd easily beat Fraser.

@@vmarsfiles No, not at this point. It would have been interesting to see them compete if they were both in their prime, which is now for Fraser but probably 6 years ago for Rich. It's the same in every sport: was Jordan better than James in Basketball? Crosby better than Gretzky in hockey? etc etc. You have to look at what they did in their moment, with the training and opportunity they had to be their best at that particular time.

Thanks Josh for your review. I've been CrossFitting since 2011. I miss the days of you and Rich on the stadium floor under the lights. So glad I was around for those battles. I'm 55 and so I don't CrossFit at your level but I love it. I did compete once at the Arnold and warmed up at the same time Rich did. He was so nice to tell me, I was what real CrossFit is. And then fist bumped me what a great memory! Lol anyway don't quit! You are a beast and one of the Originals!

I really liked the games this year and I do agree the cut was too early, but I'm glad there was a cut as it's not as fun to watch someone in 20th place struggle. I'm sure CF realized that it's more of a financial gain to keep people watching the top 10 athletes. I do miss regional's and wish CF would bring that back as it was nice to see local CF athletes. Most shocking moment was when I tuned in and saw Noah in 1st - I thought Oh, no .. is Matt injured?!? .. lol. Also loved seeing games athletes like Chyna Cho and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet participating on the team side.

Last time there was no Dottir on podium was 2013. Mad! I agree that I thought Annie would be there this year. She was pissed to be cut. But she also said she shouldn’t have been in that position either so it was her fault. I like how they all admitted that. But it’s made me think that the CrossFit games has changed from fittest on earth to fittest “any given Sunday”. I also hate how it takes away the comeback story. And some of the top ten were in no way a threat. I thought Sunday was kind of boring. Loved the rest of it. And first event, Mary and the Lift event were fantastic.
@ruzaroos
@ruzaroos 5 жыл бұрын
There were two full days of competition for the top 20 and the cut to 10 was made after half of the events were in the books. I don't think that really qualifies as "any given Sunday". Basically what happened in the past was that all the 1st and 2nd heat athletes would stay at the bottom all weekend long and post scores/times so low that the top 20 would get most of the points the whole weekend. It created an artificial points floor for the "elite". When you cut down to 20 and 20th is only getting 10 points, all those free points they got before are gone. Katrin won 2 out of the last 6 events; but coming in 8th and 9th in two only got her 30 points, which is why she wasn't on the podium.

I disagree with people saying that programming was bad, Across the whole weekend it was a complete test of fitness. But the only issue with cuts is that you have people not taking/finishing the test. Imagine taking a 2 chapter test at school and half way through they tell you that you failed cause you didn’t do well on chapter 1 but you could ace chapter 2. Mean while some one else aced Chapter 1 but then completely bomb Chapter 2 with zero consequences. Bottom line: I just think you need to have everyone do the same workouts if you’re gonna put them on the same leaderboard. Thoughts??
@SkunkyBrew
@SkunkyBrew 5 жыл бұрын
It's interesting to see how the conversation is playing out about the cuts. You have those that liked it, and those that didn't. Those, like Annie, that made it clear she didn't like it but admitted she shouldn't have been in a position to be cut in the first place. Seems to me that if you're truly fighting to be "Fittest on Earth" you're in contention the whole way through, not just just in some parts. I feel like that's what Annie is contending; that her better abilities/strengths would have played out better with the later events. But on the reverse, what if they had her better events front-loaded, and her weaker ones back-loaded? Her strengths are someone elses weaknesses, and vice versa! It's the luck of the draw.

I had to rethink the games after a day or two... I didn't think I would like the lack of weights - but it made it probably a little more accessible. Not sure that the cuts were equitable - agree that the final should have been 20 or so... maybe this would have let us find the true top 10 rather than those who were lucky enough to have their first events be their naturally strong ones. Maybe a bit less running next time. I loved the ruck run - used to do this back in the day, but the sprint as well? The swim might have been better as a paddle and something nice to burn the arms and legs straight after - not such a great spectator event?

Cuts in Crossfit aren't something new, but they have been appropriate and scheduled accordling. In years past, it was called the Open. If you do well, you move to Regionals...if not, you get CUT. 2nd Cut was during Regionals. The point of regionals was getting the field prepd for The Games. To have cuts at The Games is pointless and really isn't fair to the field. Rich Froning would never have made 4X's Champion with this years format. Think about it. He always makes a comeback on Sunday. This years format doesn't allow as in depth and comprehensive test of modalities in order to figure out who is the "fittest" across the spectrum.

Josh Bridges hey man. Big fan, was surprised to see the response. My point was that this particulars Games format doesn’t allow for the comeback that is so amazing to watch. Take 2013 where Rich takes 30th in the first event, in a similar format, he would have potentially been cut. I think you, and all the other previous Games athletes put in hard work through the entire year and earned your spot to compete during the entire duration. This year eliminated certain athletes to show case their ability in other modalities. However I’m sure the bumps will get smoothed out for next year. Keep up the hard work man. Gonna have to try some of your coffee!
