Urban Meyer would take it due to not being in the same program for years and years like Saban and Dabo. Dabo is trash. Venebales carried his ass and once he left, Dabo has been exposed. Welcome to back to mediocrity and irrelevancy.

Maybe because Dabo attended and played for Alabama ? He’s definitely done a ton for Clemson, no question about it ! For me it’s because so much of my family besides my youngest daughter and I attended Clemson. My youngest daughter decided on Bama. Still have good natured ribbing sessions with Dad, sister, brother, and brothers kids over Clemson vs Bama. Always a good time ;) RTR

@@RT22-pb2pp name a coach or school who has one a national championship without averaging recruiting classes in the top 10. Recruiting good players only adds to college coach’s legacy, it doesn’t tarnish it. Saban, Meyer, Smart wouldn’t win without great players. No team, since the major recruiting sites (like Rivals, 247, on3) have been around, has won a national championship without being in the top 10 a few years in recruiting. Before those sites became a thing, we didn’t know how good teams were recruiting but I would say it would be the same.

I may be totally off base ... but it looks like the lack of use of the portal would affect both sides of the ball. Right? Clemson D is still strong. Clemson O is the problem the last few years. I point to Streeter the first time OC at D1 level, Austin 1st time O-line coach, Grisham 1st time WR coach, Spiller 1st time RB coach. They are not developing players (2) 5* QB's and (1) 4*, and they all regressed. IOP, bad coaching hires on Offense, not the portal.

I actually believe that instead of Dabo evolving that college football wil re-evolve into a scenario where Dabo is more successful again. I don't believe he just fades away. Currently college football and NIL is not sustainable. As things rapidly evolve it could reshape in a manner where Dabo's philosophy and player centered loyalty pays divedends.

I have followed Clemson for 25 years now. I love how Dabo coaches and how he built Clemson. I do not want him to change his principles. A large portion of the Clemson fan base fills the same as I do. The minority is just loud. I Strongly believe that Dabo will go on another run. The down years at Clemson has more to do with losing a LARGE portion of the coaches at the program. Dabo does not do things fast. That means it will take a 3 or 4 years to get the coaching back to where he wants it. Once that Happens Clemson will be back.

Unless someone is revealed to be a horrible human being, it’s hard to “take away” success. So many things have to go right to win, to see it “tarnished” because you can’t repeat it multiple times, seems a little harsh. I can understand peoples frustration that Dabo won’t use the portal, but that doesn’t diminish what he’s accomplished.

Further decline with Clemson won't necessarily harm Dabo's legacy on its own. It does, however, shift how he would be viewed in an all-time perspective. If Clemson doesn't come close to winning a title with Dabo again, he will be seen as a great coach from the 2010s that refused to change and he will completely fall out of any consideration for top-all times lists, probably
