CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is often used as a term for when a farm sells shares at the beginning of the season and then gives out boxes of produce each week to it's customers.

If the farmers read ths comment.. for the sage... try pinneapple sage. It smells like pinneapple (really attractive) , super pest resistant, grows huge, huge yields.

@PreservationEnthusiast
@PreservationEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
@@janew5351 I'm struggling with price though. It's $27 a week for quite a small box of organic produce. I don't doubt their figures for getting a living wage as they have a very small holding and no economies of scale But it is $4 an item. I can buy organic vegetables in the UK for $12-15 a week for a similar amount. It looks good quality, but I would say it suits better off families with plenty of disposable income maybe with personal links with the farm. The people reading this must be quite well off, as nowhere is the price of $27 a week discussed or even mentioned!

This is a fantastic video... I am an organic farmer myself. I produce my own fertilizer from my rabbits poop thru vermiculture and other concoctions using EM Technology. I operate at my backyard in an urban estate in Nairobi, Kenya. Such a small space but very productive and profitable. I believe that the solution to our food problem is the garbage problem. The more we recycle, the more we become sustainable. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Absolutely awesome 👏. We just started growing produce 3 years ago. We’re below you in South Carolina. Things have went ok, but honestly this year was terrible w all the rain. We lost 90% of our tomatoes from torrential rains. We had 4 ac of tomatoes and was the best crop we’ve ever grown. We were ab a week away from picking canning and sandwich tomatoes and we got a 14” rain in 6 hours and it pretty much destroyed them all. They were tied up with the Fla weave system, but plants were so loaded that it just beat em to the ground and tore all the branches off. Saddest thing I’ve ever experience in my 30 year farming career. We also farm 800 of grain too, but seriously thinking ab moving away from that part of farming.

i think we are seeing a shift in how we can do business as small farmers...we don't have to just follow one model like curtis stone...but we can create a balance of creating overall value through the variety of produce but still utilize the fast growing crops to create that initial cash flow....people value in general what you can provide...but when you consider things like giving your CSA clients add ons like eggs and such we can create more impact.....i'm pumped for 2020 growing season...my first year doing a csa membership...we have to be creative....we have to rewire peoples thinking of their access to fresh food...

Inspiring story, thanks for sharing Josh! We can relate to the challenges of finding farmable land. It's been a struggle for us to find a new home for our farm since we want to stay relatively close to our customer base in the Orlando, FL area which is growing rapidly with new subdivisions on what used to be the outskirts. But where there's a will there's a way! Lots to learn from folks like Gordon and Vera :-)
