@@fabiomiguel1800 way too soon to say he's better. Bekele *dominated* the long distance scene for over a decade, and it took an organised event with the best shoe technology, pacers, and the right track to beat Bekele's race records. He definitely has the potential to be the greatest as he's only 24 and will likely get better, but he has a long way too go, but is certainly capable

1st: respect to Joshua Cheptegei on the newest world record and all of the others he’s set this year. Remarkable. Question of the day: How much of an impact is technology playing in these world records? I’m curious to hear what you think Bekele would have run if he was running in the same spikes as Cheptegei. What do we think Cheptegei would run wearing the spikes Bekele ran in without the WR LED lights beside him. All speculation aside, we gotta appreciate greatness when we witness.

@mpgrewaI00 The fact that he ran nearly even splits makes this world record much more meaningful, as you have to maintain a certain pace for such a long time, to the extent that the brain starts to do anything to make running more appealing. That is why Bekele was able to run the time he could, his brain was focused enough to at least let Bekele give an amazing last lap, to break the world record, but Joshua's brain was taking a beating as it had to withstand the constant boredoms of running at an even pace. Now yes there is better shoe and track technology, but there is also better technology to find out if an athlete is doping, and I am not saying Bekele is doping, but it is more likely that he was doping than if Joshua Cheptigei was doping. As to the weather, yes I agree that Cheptigei had an advantage, but if you notice, Kenenisa Bekele had way more people come, obviously because of COVID-19, but still there is an advantage in having people as you have more things to stimulate your mind, and as I stated before running at a same rythmn is boring and if there no crowd, your brain has even less things to "entertain" it's self. Even in their prime I still think Dibaba and Bekele would have not been able to attack this record.

No he would not...he would have been 10-15 seconds faster at a minimum (and that assumes that the shoes give no more than a 1% advantage). After saying that, Joshua looked so smooth that in a real race I think he can go faster than this. Sub 26 mins is a definite possibility

The lights at the side of the track are a genius idea. Why they never thought of it before this season is unreal. It gives the athlete something to focus on, and it gives the people watching a guiline to how close the run he is to the world record time.
