All the negative comments here seem to be by people who clearly don't understand what Josh or The Horrors are about. Yes he isn't your typical guitarist but he is, without a doubt, one of the most interesting guitarists over the last 10 years (in my opinion). His sound is always there to challenge you. Throughout The Horror's career he has always been pushing new sounds. It gets tiring when guitarists shit out the same chords and melodies so this is why we have always needed bands like Sonic Youth, Nirvana, My Bloody Valentine, Suede, The Horrors etc...to change things up and bring something new to the table. You have to experience The Horrors live to fully understand. I've definitely noticed elements of Suede's Bernard Butler or Nirvana's Kurt Cobain in the way the thrashes around on stage, and those guys are pioneers (the former being more underrated than the latter). I had the privilge of meeting Josh after a Suede gig The Horrors supported at last year and he is such a lovely, humble person. 😊

Youre absolutely fuckign right!!!! What he did in primary colors and always since is an amazing testament yo what it is to be a guitarist without traditional strictures or whatver...too interesting to be scuffed at 100%...he also used to remind me of johnny greenwood alot i know theres def an admiration for him i believe, but joshua is an indelible guitarist in the indie music scene and im completely mystified there are people here who seem to not know that...it's ,"Horror"ble heh

The horrors are by far one of the most exciting band of the last 10 years. Trust me if you have ever seen them live you will understand how powerful his guitar playing is.

I am 52 and I completely dig the Horrors and Josh's playing. Amazing tone, playing, and memorable riffs for days! I am really surprised by all the negative comments from "old farts" who are, most likely my age. We grew up on bands like the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and a host of other bands that are considered the grandfathers of "shoegaze" (a categorization that I never liked however, I am using it as a convenient term...), not to mention Sonic Youth who Josh has pointed to as his main inspiration! A second point, I am a fan of blues but it is not the end all be all of guitar playing standards. Is it great? Hell yes! Should it be used as some sort of arbitrary measuring standard to determine "good" playing? No. There are an incredible amount of guitarists who don't know what a 12 bar blues scale is and are AMAZING players. A pure blues player couldn't do what Josh does and vice versa. What counts is crafting YOUR unique sound and being the player/musician you are destined to be. Not following some imaginary standard created by, mostly, people who can't really play but only manage to mimic the playing of their favorite rock stars note for note....

For all the noise/shoegaze enthusiasts, we have learnt a good trick here to get a similar reverse reverb effect with distortion and delays. I love the horrors since I heard Primary Colours ten years ago, still sounds wild and dreamy as the first time.

Listen to some Horrors Albums, they are really good. Ok yeah this video does not really satisfying but he is one of the most exciting guitar players at least in the scene the Horrors are living. But its sad that people here still crying about his lipstick. Who cares? Would you also complain if Bowie or Bolan would sit here with the same look? Dont think so.

I've been playing for 20 years and am nowhere near as good as I should be for that time, but even I feel like these, "unique" players are just people that can't really play, and mask it with one metric fuck tonne of effects. For instance, just listen to Mirror's Image from The Horrors, to understand why he plays like that (it's typical sound of shoegaze, another genre), their music really IS unique, I'm glad there are still bands like this one, or Toy, Slowdive... rather than shitty mainstream stars produced only for success on radio stations. I love those classic rock bands and solo guitarists, but come on, music is ART, there are no rules which effect you should or should not to use, as far as the songs are meaningful.
