I got into the "slow flying tripod" side of the hobby, a little DJI mini 3 pro. I've flown other radio controlled things before; some non-3D helis and some beginner fixed wings. I have solo flown a cessna 172 so I know a few things about flying. But if they ground my little DJI flying tripod? I'll be pretty pissed and will remember it with a grudge. Not much I can do about it other than take notice of who voted what way. If I have to build my own drones then so be it; I have a perfectly good amateur radio license right here. What I would love? Is a dual camera VR system. Two main forward facing cameras. I have binocular vision, I have developed hardware and software over hundreds of thousands of years for processing parallax and deriving information based on a binocular vision system. I want to see through a drone with two cameras. The readymade DJI goggles would be perfect if there were a way to do it in software. But that would be my dream goal. VR binocular vision drones. High speed and low speed flying tripod platform both.

Actually I'm an aussie fpv freestyle pilot and in australia you can fly fpv anywhere you have permission of the property owner, you need a spotter present so just a mate or the mrs and both of you need to be MAAA members which is just the model aircraft association and fly within rules like Max altitude 120metres ... indoors is unregulated as long as there's no way the drone can fly out of the enclosed space

I stopped flying about 4 years ago and am just now getting back into the hobby. I stopped because local governments made it pretty much impossible to fly. All of the local open spaces had signs put up "No Drone Zone", with a number for people to call if someone was flying a drone. I got chased off by the cops a few times and that pretty much turned me off of the hobby. There just weren't enough people into flying in my area to make it so I didn't have to drive for hours in order to fly. Just recently I got my first Tiny Whoop. Holy crud...now I'm back into flying in a huge way. I dusted off my 3 and 5 inch drones. My batteries are completely dead and won't hold a charge.. My stuff is so out of date that I can't really even find batteries. That said, tiny whoops are incredible and so much fun. I've got 2 now and I just ordered a new set of 6 year old goggles and a new controller. I fly my whoop at work every day during lunch and again when I get home. SO MUCH FUN. Now I'm thinking of getting a new bind and fly 5 inch, but I am not sure I want to spend the money given how hard they make it to fly them.

For me, worse is a relative term. What do you consider worse. The regulations that we are currently working with are from the 2018 law, so these are not new, just many folks never bothered with them. Maybe it is less about the regulations and more about possible enhancements to enforcement. The whole uproar about the RID issue is really about tracking for enforcement. Sort of a method to "catch" violators. So, don't violate. Consider that recreational is just flying around at short to mid range and solely just for the fun of the pilot and Nothing else. From my perspective, one of the two biggest issues centers around using the flight or video for some benefit including posting to KZfaq which puts the flight into Part 107 territory and NOT recreational. The next big thing is flying long range. That is flying beyond the pilot's visual line of sight; meaning beyond what the pilot can see things in the quads airspace and be able to control and fly the quad back without video assist such as goggles. Not a real problem, just keep the quad in a small to medium space. I have seen some language where the new regulations will provide for Part 107 pilots to fly beyond visual line of site, but Not recreational flights. Anyway, I believe that it will all be ok, we just might need to pull in rogue activities and do better a compliance.

Well, everybody wanted the hobby to grow. And wanted more people to get into the hobby. Everyone was happy when DJI brought out their fpv, because it would, and I quote... "make it easier for more people to get into the hobby" At that time I was responding with, the more people that you get into a hobby, and the easier you make it for the lazy, the quicker that hobby gets ruined. That's exactly what happened. Lazy and unskilled people also tend to be irresponsible and don't follow regulation or read the rules. Flying irresponsibly in creating regulation for all of us, and that started when they started making drones for the commoners.

It’s never been worth it to buy a drone, but hobbies aren’t something you do because they’re worth it. But the worst of the regulations are already here. They may change, but RID was the big one. It’s here, it’s dumb, ignore it and keep flying responsibly. Boeing has chunks falling off their planes. The only people who care about these regulations are too busy having 3-drink lunches with congressmen to actually do any enforcement, so don’t worry about it. Disregard, fly, crash, rebuild, repeat.

Fly in a responsible way follow the rules that make sense. Chose less populated areas, avoid the centers of large cities. If you post online never show yourself or record your voice. Never say its you are the one flying, you came across the video and thought you would post it for entertainment. There are over s million drones in the US, just how many people can they actually track down, especially if you remain in the background. Let others take the center stage and attention. I feel the more rules they make the less people will take a interest in following them. Like speeding on a highway, they can't get everyone, just don't be the one that stands out, let others take the lead.

In my opinion you dont need more than ~5km to have fun, few mW more would help, to clarify I am not flying just considering future, long range=permission Thats why "common" folks fly micro foldable djis and stuff, they want photos, look over obstacles...

Stefanik's actions appear driven by her broader political aspirations, potentially aiming for a spot on the Republican vice-presidential ticket. Her close ties to anti-China drone players like Skydio and AUVSI, facilitated by former staffer Joe Bartlett, reveal the self-serving nature of her legislative efforts. These bills are not about national security-they are about Stefanik's political gain at the expense of an industry that is crucial for innovation and safety. I suspect two things. It's always follow the money. Skydio can't compete and pulls out of the mid-price drone market, then suddenly their fingerprints are all over a ban of the competitor they couldn't beat. Also, big companies want to be able to go to drone delivery, to not have to pay all those pesky delivery drivers. I would be shocked if there arent huge bribes getting spread around congress to get those things done. Two separate interests that need the same starting line, and there's a lot of money to be made if they get the dji ban done.

I wasn't worried in 2020 because I knew we weren't on the verge yet. It was just being talked about. We are on the verge now. Now is the time to actually be worried. Example, I told my business professor on the first day, along with the entire class, that automation was coming. I just don't conform to stupid regulations. Given enough time and the success Ukraine / Russia have had with drones in their war, I guarantee some geriatric shit in our government will try to classify a drone as a weapon. You know the regulations are ridiculous when a tiny whoop can at times fall under rules/regulations as a cinelifter or larger. But hey, Amazon, don't fret. You'll be allowed to fly your drones BVLOS with that AI pilot all day without issue as long as you keep sending that check to the gov't.
@_burd
@_burd Ай бұрын
To play devil's advocate in the discussion here, a lot of these efforts on the gov's part are trying to manage the individual hobby pilots getting their first drone with zero community around them to inform and train them about the responsibility controlling these aircraft places on them. It has happened a lot with semi-autonomous drones like DJI's offerings but FPV builds have had their fair share of stupid pilots too. Either way, when equipment/technology is developed that creates a sufficient threat of harm to the public, be it a firearm or a car or an aircraft, it's the rule of law that comes into play to prevent incompetent or ill-intended actors harming others. The equipment itself is harmless, it's the wiiiide range of competency and intents of humans that want to use the equipment that creates the problem. For us, we need to understand how much power these aircraft give the average citizen to cause harm (not just intentionally, but also unintentionally), especially nowadays where /anyone/ can buy a mavic and fly pretty much unimpeded and undetected into every FRZ around them. For FPV, a government just needs to look at how lethal fpv drones became in Ukraine to realise that they have next to nothing to counter someone who actively wants to deploy quads lethally. So just like completely unregulated firearm access, every citizen currently has (relatively) uninhibited access to build and deploy aircraft that are notoriously difficult to detect nevermind contain if they have become a danger for others. That's a huge potential security problem when combined with even just one bad-actor who may want to use lethal payloads. So they must work out how to reasonably regulate their access/use. To that point though, lets be reasonable: Look at the likes of airsoft. In the UK, plenty of airsoft firearms look and behave indistinguishable from the real thing until fired and even painted up to designate them as a replica/non-lethal, can still cause a lot of harm to others if used improperly or maliciously by a bad-actor. So we have legal regulation in place that fits them into the same legal 'airspace' as regular firearms and allows their recreational use to continue safely whilst shutting down the obvious avenues to creating a lethal weapon (Impact Joules, no open carry, two tone or orange tipped unregistered weapons etc) or operating it in a way or environment that is just obviously a threat to others. Airsoft is a continuing example of how you can find a way to integrate hobby-level versions of potentially dangerous equipment without having to even remotely come close to shutting it down for good. I fly commercially but also like to bando and mountain surf for fun. I've had my fair share of incidents both commercially and recreationally and I can totally see the need for at least registration and basic training. My qualifications let me train and fly in places where I'd definitely not want a newbie flying on their own, not because their aircraft will immediately cause harm, but because someone inexperienced will be far more likely to become a danger to others though lack of awareness or op errors on their part. Impacting people or animals is one thing, but causing road accidents or air collissions is wildly serious for someone who just spent

I was taking aerial photographs with radio controlled aircraft back in the '80s. I had to strap a camera to the bottom of an airplane which took months to build and hope the camera was pointed in the right direction as I pulled on the "gear" switch to activate the camera. I then had to land the thing (often between trees on a dirt road) and go develop the film. You quadcopter pansies have it so easy you have now idea what real BS is like. You've only had to deal with rabbit droppings compared to what we used to have to deal with.

lol alright grandpa find your meds. RC helis and quads are absolutely more difficult to fly than fixed wing, and I'm speaking from over a decade of experience with all three. Besides the video is about how difficult flying fpv is today with new regulations increasing, so your random cry into the void has nothing to do with the subject matter being discussed.

@@Wind_Rapport "Besides the video is about how difficult flying fpv is today with new regulations increasing" Did you even watch the video? It wasn't a one minute short so you likely don't have the attention span to watch the whole thing. "your random cry into the void has nothing to do with the subject matter being discussed." You obviously didn't watch the whole video. The subject matter of the video was about crying into the void you toddler. "over a decade" You're going to pretend like that's a long time? "find your meds" At least you started with some good advice. I might have to wait until after my nap to find them though.

It took you a few months to build because maybe you're a slow worker? Not as skilled as you think? The things I can build in a week. Give me a break, Boomer.

The hobby is dead. Don't get into drones.A friend of mine was fined 1000 for not broadcasting their signal. I love quad racing and the gov is obsessed with running it into the ground.

I saw an article awhile back where the guy was making the argument that doing this would make your drone legally protected by the second amendment and could possibly be upheld by the courts lol. I'm almost certain the writer was a lawyer too.
