WOW. I didn't even recognize her,I've been watching that tv series for a couple years on youtube-GOOD-stuff.

All these small moments really highlight something that fans really clicked with, Spock has emotions, deep ones, and we can learn through him that Vulcans have these have emotions. However, with Spock being half human and being a disappointment to his father, he puts on a heavy more Vulcan than every other Vulcan façade that he uses as a shield. We see it slip, but he does his best to be the best Vulcan in the eyes of his father and of other humans. I can really feel that, we all have to put up appearances sometimes, but sometimes our parents can for instance force a positive emotional state on us, to not show sadness, to fake it until you make it kind of deal, even when you’re breaking on the inside… I know this all too well.

It helps that you had two incredibly strong actors in that scene. Every beat was perfect.

Awesome. We used to resort to all sorts of tricks in those days when you couldn't find some of these programs or films after they were broadcast.

I remember someone showing me once some copies that I think were originally broadcast in syndication by them pointing a camera at a screen playing them that was sent out to the middle of no where America, and then the fan copied that from their tv.

Me too, except I used a regular cassette tape recorder. I'd hang a "Recording!" sign on the living room door so my family wouldn't interrupt my taping session. I'd then listen to the episodes in my bed at night and fall asleep to the daring escapades of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the heroic Enterprise crew. I miss those times.

I did the same thing with a portable Cassette Recorder, and got good at cutting out the Commercials! 😁

It got so expensive that Desilu would actually lose money on it since NBC paid them less than they spent on many episodes due to going over budget for costumes, sets, and effects other shows (like cheap Westerns or sitcoms) wouldn't need (Westerns had so many available sets and costumes they cost almost nothing aside from paying writers/actors/directors/extras, which is part of why there were so many Westerns on TV).

i think City on the Edge of Forever was the most expensive of the 3 seasons.

@rogershore3128 Correct, it cost $245,316 which was more than $60,000 over budget! Those were enormous sums in 1967. These episodes thag went over budget are why Star Trek resorted to so many "Earth-like planets" where they could recycle sets and props from other shows and movies or film on studio backlots to save money. When people complain about too many visits to the 1930s, ancient Rome, WW2, 1960s Earth, etc., that's pretty much the entire reason why: they had no choice.

Some people can't help but spoil plots and other information. They aren't malicious, but cannot control their enthusiasm. I once watched a coworker excitedly recommend a new movie and then immediately give the ending away. I was so glad that I had already seen it. But another person present had the movie ruined.

@@brachiator1 Well, it's definitely hard to convince somebody to watch something without telling them things about it that make it worth watching. But once they've already decided to watch, that seems to me like time to zip it. Seeing somebody react to something unspoiled is a unique privilege. There was an episode of Doctor Who a couple years ago that had a huge surprise return of a past character, but it was revealed in all the trailers, so when the episode actually came, I could see it from miles away, and my reaction to the big reveal was just "Okay, I knew that already." But a couple months later I watched it with someone else, who hadn't seen the trailers, and didn't hang out in fan communities. When that reveal happened, she just about fell out of her chair. She was completely blown away by the plot twist. As a result, when I rewatch it now, I remember that moment as having been shocking, even though I never experienced it as being shocking.

There is no official, or even semi-official, source for that. When I find mentioning something non-canonical like that to be worth mentioning, I will describe it as "fan theory" or the like. Fun to think about, and relevant info as some... perhaps even most?... fans believe it. But unless the creators of the show explicitly stated so... and to me, earlier series always take precedence over later ones, without exception, so in case of conflicts, I choose the earlier version first... fan theories should never be treated as "official." It's all pure speculation. For example, I have my own version of Kirk's early career, based upon the limited info given on screen and my knowledge of how the military actually operates. I even, personally, hold that Kirk was first officer on the U.S.S. Alexander, a Baton Rouge Class Cruiser, with the rank of Commander, and after the death of the captain, briefly commanded the Alexander just prior to his promotion to the rank of Captain and posting to the position if Captain of the Enterprise. Clearly your definition of "spoiler" and mine differ. According to the "Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages" a spoiler is: " 1. a description of an important plot development in a television show, movie, or book which if previously known may reduce surprise or suspense for a first-time viewer or reader." Note the key words "important plot development." Here's another objective definition, this time from Wikipedia: "A spoiler is an element of a disseminated summary or description of a media narrative that reveals significant plot elements, with the implication that the experience of discovering the plot naturally, as the creator intended it, has been robbed of its full effect." I believe the critical defining feature of "spoiler" here is that it must "reveals significant plot elements." I do not believe my comment - that Spock's pet sehlat it's shown in the 1973 Animated series episode "Yesteryear" - reveals an important plot development. I merely point to a further resource which visually depicts an obscure piece of alien fauna mentioned in this episode, and without revealing the context of the appearance. That is, at most, an obscure piece of trivia. But the definition of "spoiler" that you subjectively employ is much more severe.
