Nearly half of Yemeni children under five are underweight, and some 58% grow up stunted due to a limited diet. What will become of this poverty-stricken state if the international community fails to act fast?
"Our daily life is not ok", Mariam struggles every day to find enough to feed her family; until recently a UN program gave wheat in exchange for schooling. But funding was cut, and now the girls must work or go hungry. The West is well aware of Yemen's reputation as a haven for Al-Qaeda, but what do we know of the human suffering? "The government of Yemen, at the risk of seeing its people die of hunger, refused to issue an appeal on account of national pride", economist Aryani explains that those in power are turning their backs on the growing number of hungry and poor. Decades of development work has been wiped away by the 'Triple F' crisis: soaring food prices, plunging fuel revenues, and the financial crisis drying up remittances of Yemenis abroad. As to the tense political situation; Giancarlo Cirri of the World Food Programme warns: "the destabilising role of hunger should not be underestimated". With a third of Yemen's 23 million population now desperate for food, aid is urgently needed to counteract this deadly spiral into poverty.

I appreciate the very thorough job that journeyman pictures did with this by showing that there are so many different sides going on and yet while all of these political discussions and debates are happening People. Are. Still. Starving. The final statement was the most poignant one: while talks are continuing to be discussed over and over and over and over and over and over, feed the people. Period.

I agree, these fools around the world need to quit making babies. Especially when the world is so over crowded and polluted and full of powerful toxic weapons and millions of men who are trained and will kill at the drop of a hat in order to acquire more resources in order to keep their own people and self interests going. The problems we face in the future are insurmountable. War, disease, starvation and natural and man made disasters will prevail. We can't even feed the people who are already here. So quit making babies just because its fun and feels good. Oh never mind the race with the most people might have a chance to wipe the other races out so they can rule the world. Its called colonialism and conqueoring.. Most of the land on this planet cannot sustain a family for weeks.

I tried to be nice. Tried to be empathetic, sympathetic, and everything else, but the more I see babies crying, children sent off to labor and marriage, and adults using religion and culture as a reason why this is continuing, the matter I get, so forget being nice. The Frank matter is that patience is a virtue. If you can't find or a Ford contraception, wait until you are on your feet to have sex. in the meantime, keep it in your clothes. It's not a hard concept. The fact that babies are starving and children either have to do hard labor or get married is the fault of the parents.

Thank you for sharing!! I wish I had money to travel there.. I would volunteer and give the less fortunate a chance at a good future. I'm no teacher but I'm sure they would be very appreciated for anything. I wanna help ppl around the world . I feel like that is my life's purpose. . But I may never get that chance. But one thing I do know, is that I appreciate everything I have in my life. I may not be rich or pretty or smart or a perfect mom and wife. Or even live in a mansion. But I do wake up every morning. I have a roof over my families head and food on the table and thee bestest husband \Baby daddy\ best friend\my soulmate.

How do they survive pregnancy in such conditions? Having babies in such conditions? Yet they all grow up and are fine. Most are better than those who recieved all the medical care in the world. There are rarely few inbetween handicap or ill babies born in these regions. Their illness has always been malnourished which was brought upon them as a project.

Stop having babies. I'm sure that with the culture that isn't as easy as it sound but the heads of state are saying the state can feed our people, so why aren't you. This goes so far above pride. Your people are dying of hunger either feed them or reach out for help to get them the food. To me with my full belly and warm bed the solution seems simple, I'm sure it's not but come on world, can we not figure this out?

They are not dying of anything anymore than anywhere else in the 'developing' world. How is it that a woman can produce 10 children and be starving and malnourished at the same time? It's not possible. That was filmed in 2010. The older children in the video now each have 8 to 10 children if they actually were that guy's children which I doubt. He just went around collecting teen aged girls dressed all in black. And they are all of them still starving. You believe that? They can rely on western donors to provide all the food they need for the subsequent generations.

People are suffering because they keep having babies despite no money, no work, no food, etc. They need to take personal responsibility; you don't have children when you can't feed them and you have your own children dying of starvation! It is common sense, and selfish! Stop crying that the world needs to help you out and bring you food and money; the only thing you should get is birth control!
