CONVERTING a LAMP from AMERICAN to FRENCH, DIY - Journey to the Château de Colombe, Ep. 62

In this week's episode, Patrick works on converting one of the lamps that they brought over from the United States so that it can be used with the electricity in their French chateau. Patrick and Stuart also finally receive an update on getting the carte grise (official vehicle registration certificate) for their van.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, yes indeed, it was a year that was! We have had many challenges, trials and tribulations, yet we all survived. It is amazing at times how we can cope with demands and unnecessary stress, I think we are stronger than we realise. It really makes you stronger therefore, we can be encouraging others that seem to find no solution for their problems. I did not realize that the year end was upon us, so quickly, being busy I thought there is still time but here we are, ready to finish off 2022. We have been blessed with much rain this summer season, and suddenly it has become quite dark even though it is 8:40 am so it looks like the heavens are going to pour down a good amount of rain, so I will finish off just in case there is bad lightning coming in as well. The videos were most pleasant this year and I am taking the opportunity in wishing you all the very best for the year coming 2023, may we enjoy peace and joy with love every day in the coming year and be able to cope with demands. Let us make ourselves happy and stay negative free as much as possible. Have a happy day, Shalom.

Looking back on your year from preparing to leave the United States and the roller coaster ride from then to now, you both kept smiles on your faces and optimistic attitudes. I know losing Nessa for nine days was tragic and had to be devastating but I do believe your hope and optimism was the blessing that brought her back to you. This was a bit of a year as a new born Europa citizens.All over the world there were things going and in youre own world there were huge changes. I hope you made a decision,that changed your and that for the fur babys,was the best in years.Living in France and in an old chateau must be overwhelming for you guys. I'm glad you found friends around you,and the parents of Patrick can come more often than in the USA. I wish you all the best for 2023 and I hope to see a lot of building activities in the chateau.

The streetview is what we miss in the Netherlands. It's so romantic. Lots of old buildings in the large cities have been taken down and replaced with new ugly shops. Only in the East and benieth the Rhine river you can find these streets. We are glad we have meet you both. I always get happy seeing your vlog. Moving countries, buying and selling houses, each one is probably 100 on the stress scale. Re-wiring lamps is a task and not sure I would want to try it for another country. Good for you Patrick being able to do so. I used to go to re-use centers and garage sales to get a stash of supplies to keep on hand to re-wire because it saved huge amounts of money buying parts from stores. Of course buying vintage and antique lamps was less expensive doing it that way as well. Hope you guys had a great Christmas and the year ahead is amazing!

I am grateful for this year in so many ways but I am most grateful for the new friendships with you 2 at the top of my list and of course the fur babies. That lamp is beautiful and I know a little about rewiring lamps and Patrick you did an awesome job. Huge congratulations on getting your van's official French papers. Look out brocantes now! Christmas day 6 years ago our Pitt/Black Lab passed away on her evening walk with dad. She was 15 years old. The vet thought she had a massive heart attack. We always light a candle for her. This year it was some easier thankfully. I really felt for you both when Nessie was gone but oh the joy she was found. That was a lovely little tour in town. I wish you both, your 9 fur babies, your family and friends the very Best for the entire 2023. Happy New Year with big old bear hugs from Canada.

Just a tip: I use a hot glue gun to create drips on the candle sleeve and then paint them with a flat acrylic paint in the color I want. Much prettier than the stark white candle sleeves and much less expensive than those on Amazon.
