This kind of videos are very enriching, especially when they include such a great artist like Joyce DiDonato. But please, don't ruin them cutting off some parts and editing them.

It takes a life time to learn Rossini style of singing ,this requires more than bel canto,the voice should be spirited,and amalgamated,and needs a lot of chest power as well,especially for a mezzo,brava Joice keep it up ! Saluti Gino

What a great soprano with a great future. Joyce is also wonderful with her advice and ease of encouraging singers with good criticism for improvement...

"There is no breath police!" Amen. My belief is better to take an intentional breath that to try to sneak one in. That said, the bel canto composers seem to make that easier to finesse than, say, Mozart's fancy work with a Donna Elvira or Konstanze. But the message is the same. I've heard this singer more recently, and her lower resonances have filled out beautifully.

This was wonderful. Joyce DiDonato was amazing and so was the young soprano. None of my teachers would have given the throat clearing a pass though. It is better to rub the tongue clockwise two or three times over the roof of the mouth to initiate more saliva and swallow, hydrating the chords before starting to sing. It is a way to stop nervous coughing and throat clearing which are so hard on our chords. Bravi, though! What a beautiful, delightful young singer and a pricelessly focused master singer/teacher.

i’m very fascinated by the way opera singers speak from what I’ve heard. such soothing voices with such clarity and diction. very interesting. idk i’m just very fascinated. it probably differs from opera Singer to opera Singer though but I’ve noticed that a lot of opera singers speak this way. and classically trained singers in general.

I believe that by "smearing" she means that while studying the aria it will help you to draw the basic/important parts of the music so as to secure homogeneity throughout and then add details such as trills.
@davidalbro2009
@davidalbro2009 7 жыл бұрын
DiDonato was using the smearing technique to engage natural resonance in the young singers voice. They had just talked about how the singer was pushing her lower register to give it weigh. By over-doing the legato it can bring focus and tone into the singer's lower range.

I am interested to watch this, the singer does indeed have a fabulous voice. Why does she continually clear her throat I wonder? I too have this issue, I feel like my voice is croaky and cough to clear it throughout practice (although I try not to, it can't be good for me!) but I also have that breathy sound in the lower register. What is the word "smeary"? that Joyce says? Does she mean to slide to each note, like very legato? I want to practice this.

Daedalus M'Baye because in general there isn't time in a masterclass to sing a whole piece and give the singer real working time with the master teacher. This singer clearly chose to just work on the recitative (which is plenty to work on just by itself, as you see!)

Miscellaneous well, she speaks as she sings, with that clear resonance, so she sounds younger despite being almost 50. Good technique in speech as well as singing keeps the voice clear and healthy.

I think she is a soprano. Many sopranos have darker lower registers, which doesn't mean they're mezzos. The mezzo sound sits in a different place.
@inesdeerausquin5658
@inesdeerausquin5658 10 жыл бұрын
Perhaps she is more comfortable in the lower tessitura of mezzo repertoire, though. Granted that (eg this piece) Rossini's mezzos sing nearly as high as his sopranos but the general range and where most of the music sits is a bit lower. I'm one of those on-the-fence voices too - lots of high notes, but more comfortable living in middle and low with occasional forays into the upper register, rather than sitting high all the time, so I call myself a mezzo. Perhaps Miss Kelly is one of these voices as well. In the end, the labels are pretty flexible!

@Charlie Charlie you mean for the darkness of her voice? Do you listen all the interfere inside her throat? Abd what the sound is clear what's the sound? The color not the extension is what gives you the category of the voice. There are so many wrong assigned chords, from the best places in the world.
