Pappano is weak, may be is to match the lack of power in Anna’s voice.

I tell you, it saddens me. I'm 35, and I see that much of today's world has succumb to such Idiocracy that we can no longer fully appreciate the rarity and beauty of the fine arts as much as we should. Exquisite performances such as from this lovely creature should be boasted and praised in many households nationwide. But between asinine political bickering, activist buffoonery, academic laziness, and cheap thrills at our fingertips, our culture has greatly diminished the spirit of talent, creativity, and masterful brilliance in exchange for shallow mediocrity and physical diversity over intellectual or cultural diversity. We definitely need a cultural and artistic renaissance. Am I right?

she has a nice voice and presence. But what's going on with the Italian and accuracy of notes? seems like today pronunciation and the written notes do not matter anymore.

I suspect that for Pappano it's been a question of "better the devil you know..." in terms of his loyalty towards Kaufmann as his favoured tenor despite Kaufmann's obvious vocal challenges - a consequence of age and illness. Kaufmann's body language and aloofness in this interview made me sad for Pappano whose generosity, humility, passion for and immersion in the arts came alive in every word he spoke. The end of an era at the ROH.

iKaufmanns politeness dedicated the stge to Pappano.......
@operaFan-tn8ng7 сағат бұрын
I think your comment is insulting to both of these world-renowned, magnificent musicians. Antonio Pappano does not sign a singer up because it's better the devil you know nor does he practice nepotism. Jonas Kaufmann was humorous and friendly in the interview, did not push himself forward and showed great respect for Antonio Pappano. Jonas Kaufmann is still an absolutely stunning performer despite the illnesses.

What an incandescent couple of high-powered opera royalty Pappano and Kaufmann are - beautiful to hear them talking about their musical passion and long collaboration. I can only imagine how devilishly witty their opera anecdotes must be in private, fly on the wall stuff (and the only reason I'd want to be a fly...!)
