Basic Maintenance On My MK7

So sicne Project MK7 is at 70K, it's time to perform some basic maintenance to ensure that this GTI runs strong and true. I figured that I would show you guys this process if you are one of those people who don't mind getting a little dirty and doing this yourselves. Like always , great video ..i thought the windshield wipers would be a pain in Volkswagen but you made look pretty simple, as well with the cabin filter.I live Ct. and I got to say you got guts doing this service in the cold !

I just changed my front and rear wipers also. Noisy and cleaning didn’t help. Problem is the rubber gets hard after a year. Wasn’t ripping or anything.

Its 2019, what happened to your Lambo-like rims? NYC here too, I'm going to 17". Tired of worrying about all the man-hole covers on the FDR middle lane. Did you install the cabin filter in reverse? Thought you said arrow facing down. How did the spark plugs look after installing the catch-can?

JR I’m curious how come you didn’t run RS7 plugs? Do you run the Dap magnetic drain plug?

yoo check that coolant level, looks lower than usuage. remember those water pumps tend to have a tiny tiny tiny tinyyyy leak

Turn the key in the ignition one click. Make the windshield wipers go once only, and they should stay at the top.

Just a heads up. Schwabens extension hose does not reach the bottom of the oil pan on a mk7. I had to order a Pela 6000 hose and put it on the end of the Schwaben hose. The hose i think is about $20 from Pela. You need to call to order.

Well it all depends on what type of driving you planning on doing and what you are more comfortable. My personal opinion, I like the manual a lot. In stock form, its very manageable, light clutch very smooth shifter feel. However, the DSG is faster compared to the manual but you lose the driving engagement that you get in a manual!

JR14 Very true. I drive to jersey on a daily basis from the Bronx for work. In terms of reliability and low maintenance cost, would the manual be the way to go? I’m coming from a 17 charger R/T, I’m thinking about the GTI for the gas Mileage.

@@chrissanchez8730 i have dsg and honestly even though im not changing gears its still fun to drive, you can always pop into manual mode on the dsg and change gears your self if you want to, checkout my channel to see my car and the dsg

I think you left about a quart of oil in the car. You only had about 4.5 in your extractor.

Nah the GTI takes about 5 quarts with the regular oil pan

And it does burn some off as well. The extractor won’t get all of it about maybe about 95 percent of it

JR14 that is the schwaben oil extractor right? The tube just didn’t seem like it was hitting the bottom of the oil pan. And it is suppose to take 5.5 quarts. Thats why all the oil change kits come with 6 quarts.

No one knows how to unlock those D clips attached to coils you have to pull the connector into compression against coil and pull up on clip to release. Its from the primary and secondary locks inside connector.

Timing belt would be my main concern.

Timing chains were a big problem with the MK5’s and the MK6 platforms. However the MK7 its really not that big of a concern anymore. I’ve asked my Volkswagen dealership service department, a couple of Master Techs who I’m friends with, Paul from shopdap and they all assured me that this not a big issue with the MK7

Water pump, thermostat, sunroof leak is common issue for these mk7
