It's car servicing time again! In this video I go through step by step how I service my car. It's a simple DIY task which could save you TIME & MONEY as well as giving you the peace of mind that the job has been done properly. The car featured is a 2015 MK7 Golf 2.0 TDI. The process will be fairly similar for the VW/ AUDI/ SEAT/ SKODA family. Please feel free to use this as a guide for servicing your car.
STEP 1: CHANGING THE OIL/ OIL FILTER (2.04)
STEP 2: CHANGING THE AIR FILTER (9:21)
STEP 3: CHANGING THE FUEL FILTER (10:43)
Allow the fuel filter to prime for a couple minutes with the ignition on before starting.
STEP 4: CHANGING THE CABIN FITER (12:28)
STEP 5: RESETTING THE SERVICE LIGHT (14:00)
Order a service kit from my amazon shop (affiliate): amzn.to/41quKNU
Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for damage caused to yourself or vehicle, this video is meant as a guide only. Be sure to wear the correct PPE when carrying out this maintenance task.

When you are down to a few drips of old oil, its worth adding a couple of hundred ml of fresh oil to the engine and letting it flush out any remaining old oil from the sump, then when that has finished draining, adding your sump bolt and fresh crush washer.

Good for you doing your own service. Recommended service is 10000 miles. Although most service techs recommend every 5000 miles. I use a vacuum pump system to remove the oil out of the dip stick. It takes 15 minutes to do an oil change with filter and you don’t have to crawl under the car.

Nice video mate I am gonna do this myself after seeing how straight forward it is, just one question what torque wrench would you suggest?? If something needs torquing to say 30nm could I use a 1/4 what goes upto 25nm , but then add 5 using the numbers on the torque wrench to make it 30nm if you know what I mean... or do I need to buy like the next wrench up that goes up that has 30nm etccc TIA
@TurnersWorkshop97
@TurnersWorkshop97 Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, the torque wrench you use should go up to the figure you want to torque it to. If you torque up to 25nm then adjust back to 5nm you will still have only torqued to 25nm. Halfords do a good range of affordable torque wrenches and teng tools is another one. When you do get one make sure you wind it back to zero after every use or else it buggers the spring inside and won’t be accurate. 👍🏼

Great video lad! Exactly what I was looking for! Recently bought a mk7 golf gt 2.0 TDI myself and have always serviced my own cars. Just wondering when you changed the fuel filter did you have to use VCDS to prime the filter as I’ve heard that you need to do this for the 1.6 TDI engines to start the engine after the filter he been changed. Not sure if this also applies to the 2.0 TDI engines of the same year though? Liked & subscribed 👍🏼
@TurnersWorkshop97
@TurnersWorkshop97 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate 👍🏼 I don’t have VCDS, just switch ignition on let fuel pump circulate and away it goes! 😁 It must self prime. Had a 1.6 TDI Passat in the past and didn’t have to use it on that either. Cheers for the sub.

I understand what you are saying as you don’t want to airlock the high pressure fuel pump etc. I’ve not had an issue doing it this way. Leaving a couple of mins with ignition on before starting allows it to self prime.

Hi, Thank you for the great video! I've just bought a mk 7.5 and your instructions were great in giving it a full service. My only question is, I intend on keeping the vehicle till it drops (I love it), it's 5 years old and I understand timing belts are due every 5 years. It's only covered 39,000. Would you recommend a change at such low mileage.....I've always heard timing belts are good for 60,000+. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
@TurnersWorkshop97
@TurnersWorkshop97 Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. Timing belts should always be changed at the recommended interval regardless of mileage or age it’s whatever comes first. The rubber belt deteriorates with age regardless of mileage and visa versa. I’m the same, love my golf and can see me keeping it until the end. This is also the one maintenance job that I don’t do myself as the consequences of getting it wrong are catastrophic 💸 it’s worth getting it done by a reputable garage making sure they use quality parts. Hope this answers your question 😊

Thank you so much for your reply, I greatly appreciate it. As a fellow mk 7 owner ( I guess the mk 7.5 1.6tdi is the same) , could you confirm that is the interval you've changed it at? No problem, I go by the Haynes manual recommendation as it’s typically on the safe side and it’s 60,000miles or 4 years. The manufacturer may say different. It’s worth getting the water pump done at the same time also.

We are the happy owners of a 2016 Golf Sportwagen. I do all of my own work except when I lack time or tools, such as a lift. I use a pair of ramps for oil changes. I am surprised and disappointed that you have to remove a belly pan to reach the oil drain plug on the 2017, as I do on my 2001 Passat wagon. With my 2016 Golf, the oil drain plug is readily available without any removal of anything. The 2016 gasoline 1.8T's oil filter mounts from the top.

If it will run on easy start, and you have fuel at the injectors it sounds like a blockage in the injectors. When you squirt easy start in the inlet manifold will it run and then cut out?

wrong oil. you should use 507.00 5w-30LL. NOT 505.00 C3 if dont want to damage turbo and dpf in long term use. also after replacing fuel filter need to switch el. pump for up to 3 min and bleed air out from system to prevent high pressure fuel pump fail.

@@TurnersWorkshop97 You can use any make of engine oil provided it meets VW 507.00 spec - so Castrol, Mannol, Shell, Fuchs, Quantum, Mobil and many others. Just keep changing it regularly. Don't wait for 10K miles to clock up. Change at 6K for long engine life and power.

It’s worth getting the water pump done at the same time and around £500 more or less depending on where you go. Sounds expensive but if the belt goes that is another level of expensive to put right.

@Lionn8563
@Lionn8563 3 жыл бұрын
@@kevinobrien151 yes but the oil drain is not a 3 mil hole, its a big hole. And also, what makes oil run 3 times faster is unscrewing the oil cap before opening the drain plug, so air can enter, no one does that. If you look at few "professional" oil change videos, they do that for a reason
@kevinobrien151
@kevinobrien151 3 жыл бұрын
I never said anything about the oil cap, the cap shouldn’t make a big difference if it’s in or off. I’m saying that the oil will run quicker (as it is thinner) out the hole even if it is the same size hole dosent matter. Pour a drop of cold oil and a drop of hot oil down a surface vertically and you’ll see the thin oil runs quicker, as it’s thinner you’d get more oil out.
