At the end of last year I took a trip to Iceland with a few friends, with the intentions of facing a few things I've been trying to run from. This isn't a travel video, this is just a time capsule. I made this large in part for myself, as a video to go back to and relive some of my favorite memories the week gave me on this planet so far. I wanted to share it in hopes that someone else could connect to it, especially if you feel like you're in a dark place. You're not alone believe me.
It's okay to be a little broken.

A reminder to myself, a reminder to anyone going through something. I know this video is coming out of left field.. especially compared to everything else I've made on this channel. I wanted to make something that felt true and raw to the moments I had in Iceland, I hope that translated in this piece. I love you all, thanks for allowing me to share stories that mean something to me, you have no idea how grateful I am to that. ❤

I think a lot of people don't realize how much people actually will genuinely care about you if you let them in. We allow our assumptions to make us deeply believe we are being hated, judged or outcasted because of negative images in the media. Which causes so many to feel alone and displaced. But if you give yourself a chance to be, people will see you. People will listen and connect. I learned this a few years a go. I'm fat and I was a cove with a friend. People were cliff jumping and something in me really wanted to try but I was overthinking. Maybe I won't make it up there and have to turn around or get stuck. Maybe I'll be in the way or judged. Plus I happened to be the only black person there so I was super worried about that. But something REALLY was pulling me to go up there. So I tried. I made it up there and literally for 30mins I was standing up there afraid. But you know what happened, no one yelled at me. No one told me to hurry up or made me feel like I was stupid for being up there. They helped me, encouraged me. Gave me advice to overcome my fears. Even a total stranger stepped up to walk me through it and eventually jumped along side me. All while being cheered on and encouraged. My whole life I was driven to think people wouldn't care because I was fat, because I was black or because I was a female. Unwarrantly believing that people were mean. And yeah there are some but there are a whole lot more who just feel like misplaced beings looking for connection. That's personally why I love KZfaq. Because you end up finding them often here. People can say this platform is toxic but usually those people haven't paid close enough attention. Anyways, sorry for the long comment. Just know your exsitence does matter and people will care if you give them a chance to let them in. JR this was a much needed video. Right now I'm definitely in that broken space but I'm learning day by day that it's okay. And I understanding what i need to do. You're awesome and I appreciate you. ✌🏾
@JRAlli

thank you for being brave to share, to even write this. It's crazy you mention "being yourself and letting people in". I struggle with this at times, i put up walls i dont even realize I had up. This trip specifically was special because I felt like I could be myself and all the guys you see in this video made me feel like it was okay. I can relate to not looking like everyone else, being a minority, it can get to you.. but finding and letting the right people in is what i've been trying to do alot more too. Day by day, step by step. I appreciate you too
@RecapturingLife
@RecapturingLife 5 жыл бұрын
@@JRAlli 🙏🏾 Thank you, I am always aiming to be a little bit braver everyday. I think one of our bravest actions is being vulnerable. I think that is why filmmaking and KZfaq is important. People like you eventually arrive at the point where you have the choice to be vulnerable or hide. That choice will affect the work you create. It will affect you as a person. The more that we make it a place where filmmakers have the ability to choose vulnerability I think that is when we will witness so many world changing projects on this platform. Because I do believe films are empathy generators and our generations have the ability to rewrite the narrative of our world if we choose to do so. I know what my calling is as a filmmaker and it'll take a lot of courage from me. But I think Filmmakers, just like yourself awaken the storytellers within others and your friends are doing the same for you. So day by day, step by step keep on moving. Even if it's just waking up in the morning. You are doing so much more than you'll ever know.
@JRAlli

Sometimes, it takes an overwhelming breakdown to have an undeniable breakthrough. You might have to get knocked down lower than you have ever been to stand back up taller than you ever were. GET BACK UP. :D Another one to hopefully inspire people is our success story. Maybe you guys might have seen me on other videos but anytime I write a comment, I always tell my story with it so people know why I am saying what I am saying :) - also to keep inspiring other people because for me, reading other people's success journey is so motivating. :) We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started a cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And how we have our first storefront location (a second launching soon!) We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

This video is so intense in so many ways. I really can't handle it. I am sitting here and I don't know what I am feeling right now. Sweating, goose pimples, a tear appears and the end there is a smile on my face. Just wow. Thank you for giving me all these emotions in one.
