I am a tire technician and I mount at least 1 tire a day using machinery or specially made tools to do it manually. But about once every 2 years I have to do it the hard way with 2 pry bars and sadly I forget the techniques that make it easier. So I go to KZfaq and what do you know I was simply taking to big of a bite. Corrected myself after watching this video. Now I have my feet up relaxing 😎

i don't doubt what you're saying, but you need to find a new shop. every tire machine i worked on uses plastic duckheads on the wheel so it doesnt scratch it, and unless you have runflat tires, you dont need to use a prybar at all. you can push the tire onto the wheel with your hands as long as you have the top bead under the drop canter.

For anybody who is wondering, this is just like you do it on a bike, only the rim is larger and the tire sidewall is stiffer. You want to be careful using something that's sharp at the end for a prybar to make sure you don't rip the bead or it won't hold air.

Thanks for posting this video! I like how you kept it quick and to the point. I purchased new rims for my truck and was able to mount the tires with zero scratches by myself thanks to your technique! I did end up cutting som small pieces of rubber hose about 3 inches long, then slice them in half the long way. These were used at any point the prybar (I used a flat blade screwdriver) contacted the rim, just to insure I didnt chip or dimple the rim. Took me about 2x as long as you, but I feel was a good investment. Thanks again!!

a tip: lubricate well the inside of the bead facing the exterior of the wheel, it supports the friction involved in the passing over the exterior of the wheel Often, I use a mixture of about 25% liquid dish soap with water tu lube the bead I use it also for loosing the tire bead, I spread this lube and with my manual machine, it is very easy to break the bead( I spread the lube and repeatly apply the force to permit the lube to penetrate the joint)
@LifeWithEmin8 ай бұрын
Isn't it bad if the soap stays inside of the tire?

@@Zenairo Almost. Fortunately, I had asked the Manager to look at the wheels before they starting working on the tires. The Manager's exact words were: "they look like new rims". He assured me that they were capable of doing a "professional job". When they had finished installing new tires, every wheel had deep scratches around the perimeter of each rim. As an added bonus, there were what appeared to be peen marks across several of the spokes. I assume this was caused by dropping a tire iron onto the spokes. All-in-all, not a good day.

What takes the longest is honestly setting up the car on the lift, gathering the tires, then taking all 4 tires to the machine, and balancing, then filing the paperwork properly. The functionality of the personal balancer is great but probably not equipped to handle wheels larger than 15-16". They balance a trailer tire/wheel in the demonstration clip for harbor freight, which is rather unrealistic. Great idea, just not for a lot of modern vehicles.

@mattevans16434 жыл бұрын
You can, but you need something to balance it with. There are literally hundreds of different ones you buy ranging from $40-$35k. The $40 is for older, or smaller sized wheels. It's a pole with a level on it. Works great and does what it needs to. However with larger wheels it's not the best. But it'll get you close. Your best best is to take it to a shop, they can't really s uff the rims doing that.
