1:18 I have actually seen Rickson so this. The biggest guy in the room (power lifter/bouncer) chose front head lock. Never stood a chance. Rickson tapped him in less than 2 minutes with the strangest arm bar I ever saw. Then he let the next guy pick a position, then the next guy, again and again, 10 straight guys, took a break for a few minutes and then came back and did ten more. He wrestled every single guy in the room who wanted a match at his seminar that day. So around 50 matches. All of us chose our starting position. Some guys he fought with one hand in his belt, some guys he set a limit that they could not lose unless he arm barred their left arm etc etc.

I went up to the Palisades with my friend Helder Menezes (RIP) to train with Rickson. He let me start, mounted, with the neck crank I'd just tapped a few of his students with. For a second I thought I was going to be famous. He pushed my elbow up, effortlessly pulled his head out, swept me, it felt like he was water...until he side mounted me. Then it felt like an elephants chest was on my face. He stayed there and told the class to pair up...then said "excuse me I forgot you were down there." (Everyone laughed but me ) Then he had me show them the crank and he showed them the escape. Then Rockson (RIP) took Helder and I to Sushi at Topanga. I miss those days and those guys really bad.

@@russellward4624 so now it’s a verbal agreement. First you said a contract was signed now you say it was a verbal agreement. Bottom line is Sakuraba challenged Rickson immediately after beating Royler and the contract was sent almost a year before Rockson died. Instead of Rickson signing the contract he said Sakuraba was unimpressive. So Royce had to fight Sakuraba just so people wouldn’t call the Gracie family cowards. He beat Royce and then beat Renzo. This is all before Rockson died. Face it, he never accepted and he even says it eats at him everyday that he never signed the contract. He had a whole year to sign and never did.

Whooz Worldizthis No doubt that it’s a lot of fun. I loved it when I did it. But, I started in my mid 40s. I noticed that I was waking up stiff and sore everyday. Injuries were taking long to heal or sometimes they wouldn’t. As you get older, it gets much harder for your body to recover. Also, the long term effects of injuries many people are not aware of because they don’t see it. Lots of high level guys today are walking around crippled because of their earlier training which was so hard on the body. Take care of your body.

Listening to him talk about movement reminds me of some of Bruce Lee's theories. I bet Bruce would have absolutely loved BJJ and it's crazy he never found it while he was alive. I also wonder why because it was around then. Did he simply overlook it or was Brazil just closed off from the world back then?
