This game is a microcosm of Barry's career. I truly forgot how poor the offensive line was. He squeezed out every yard possible [and impossible]. Greatest RB ever.

@@josephdavis1704 I am a cowboys fan, but I can admit emmitt Smith count hold a candle to Barry on a track. And Barry was a great running back. But to say his offensive line and supporting cast was bad is a complete lie. You dont make the NFC championship simply because of your running back. As far as not using your blockers, it's well known he would ignore the design of the play to try to break long runs. When he did it, everyone loved it. But when it went bad like it did in green bay in 94, you get bad performances.

That was one of the most exciting games I've ever watched! If Barry only would've been on a more well rounded team he'd have gotten the many super bowl rings he deserved. Best running back in NFL history if you ask me.

This was Barry's last year not a sign of slowing down. Could have ran for 20000 yds. According to his performance he had at least 3 to 5 more years as an elite running back.

@@KISS_MY_CONVERSE yeah, Barry was truly a class act on the field, not so much off... His main reason for quitting, when pushed beyond "l just didn't have it in me anymore", was that he was tired of watching the Lions let great talent go in free agency. That's what he wrote in his book.This is nonsense. Unlike any team then or since that I know of, the Lions held together the key components of that team for a long time. Ball, Spielman, Blades, Brown, Glover, White, Cofer, Gibson, Jamison, Crocket... All started with them in the 80s, and played at least 6 years in Detroit. Morton, Hanson, Moore, Jenkins, Owens, Pritchet, and several others who signed on in the early nineties stayed with them many years also. All quality players, several of them pro bowlers. Most did little or nothing after leaving the Lions also. They actually held onto their talent exemplarily. Such a shame, because I totally agree with you, he had another five to six thousand yards in him easily. To not honor his contract with pure bunk.

@@LuOover mos def agree. During his time, there wasn't many dual threat backs. Thurman Thomas, Ricky Watters, and Marshall Faulk were the dual threats of his era because their coordinators were more innovative. Emmitt caught a ton of passes but lacked in run after catch.

That would've been Barry's 100th rushing TD, he finished his career with 99. He finished his career averaging 99.8 yards per game, I read somewhere that this run would've put him over 100.

Simply the best runner the NFL had ever seen. I use to use his highlights for motivation before my games in HS and college. The games that stuck out to me greatly were 97 against the bucs where Barry had 2 runs of over 80 yards, juked the shit outa John lynch, also the Thanksgiving game in 97 against the bears. Barry has the best vision in America, his ability to run by what he saw was incredible. He played with only two probowlers/all pros in his time there, really, which were Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover. Most of his career he ran for his life and got use to doing so, and would lose yards from time to time, but it was all worth it, cus with that style, it was only a matter of time before he broke a big one. Barry has the best yards to years ratio of ANY back in NFL history, that should tell ppl the whole story. Meaning Barry did the best with what he got compared to ALL runningbacks in NFL history. He's in a short, short class of back that we never saw a decline in, think about it, then on top of that no other back had a stronger career, start to finish like Barry

Back in the day, the QB would feel pressured to get the ball out as soon as they could due to the type of hits they would take. The defenses' main objective in those days was to somehow take the starting QB out of the game... mentally and physically.

You know it's "funny" how many people blame Detroit for Barry's early departure. He had never said he had issues with Team or the Organization. I am sure losing takes a toll on you, but you can get that with 30 other teams every year. The reason he left when he did was because of Bobby Ross. I promise he would have kept playing if Wayne Fontes never would have been fired. If Barry was so bitter with Detroit why would he still go to most games and work for the team?!

Barry Sanders is a real man of integrity and loyalty, one in a million that's why he's still there. Wayne Fontes wasn't going to win any titles either way. The clock doesn't start until the ball is touched by a player other than the kicker. I ran a stopwatch from the time the ball is first touched until the GB player recovered and it was 2.25 seconds. Since he is not allowed to advance it, the clock stops as soon as he has possession of the ball. They got it right and it didn't change the outcome of the game anyway. Plus, it went down as another incompletion for Favre on one of the worst days of his career in GB.😆

Emmitt Smith claims to have accomplished more than any other running back just before he notes that he may not be the greatest running back. Smith KNOWS that he did not affect defensives like Barry affected defensives. Smith KNOWS Sanders it's the greatest.

7:04 This is Barrys most unappreciated run. It doesn't generally make his top ten but it should. He literally slips thru a narrow corridor of 4 or 5 unblocked defenders about 5 yards downfield ... It also highlights his least appreciated talent. He had incredible acceleration and speed for the first 40 or 50 yds, as fast as any player I ever saw

Brett never really got a chance in Atlanta Jerry said Brett would never make it Brett was 0-5 in passing attempt . The funny part was a few years later Jerry denied ever saying Brett would never make it,he said he always liked Brett yet Jerry was the one who wanted Brett gone .Jerry always was a jack ass.

No, not really. Favre couldn't stay out of the night clubs and strip bars in Atlanta so they moved him. Plus he wasn't impressing on the field. Change of scenery did him good.
