Still awaiting the "envelope with the code" to arrive at my dealer, so they can flash the ECU. Very awkward process, pursuing this basic flash tune. That's Chevy for ya!

@@brianmaloney5430 Yeah, so basically, each qualified VIN (w/ Turbo Plus Engine) will have a unique code assigned from Chevy in order to flash the ECU while maintaining the factory warranty. If you decide to purchase the High Output Tune Package, Chevy has to mail that code in an envelope to the dealership doing the tune. It takes a couple of weeks to arrive, once the dealer has ordered the code. Upon receipt, the dealer will contact you to set the appointment for the tune. It only takes about 10-30 minutes to flash it.

Bought my trail boss three weeks ago. Did a, few mods like tinted front door windows ,I did a tunnel cover similar to yours and a clear front bra. To protect from rock, chips, added LED headlights full set of mud floor liner. In the process of having cruise control installed by a local shop. Just ordered a remote start from Chevrolet and also ordered the chip upgrade hopefully to experience in liking the torque upgrade. If it’s possible, I’d love to share some pictures of the process lol to get your opinion on what she looks like now. Enjoying your Contant.

Hello! Hey I’m super frustrated with the process or lack of knowledge from most of my dealerships who don’t know anything about the calibration to the high output. I even called GM and no knowledge from them either. I ordered my Colorado this past winter/spring and during the ordering process my salesman knew nothing about it. He kept telling me that I have the high output, but I told him do not especially ordering the Turbo Plus option!! After reviewing back at your video I didn’t know anything about an RWQ at that time. I went to 3 different dealerships and they look at me like I’m crazy. I’m absolutely stunned at the lack of product knowledge from the dealerships/salesmen. I’m going to have to snapshot the service bulletin that you provided on this video and take it to the dealership. 2024 is right around the corner and the 24 Colorados will no longer have the Turbo Plus, it’s the lower power train or the high output. I don’t want to miss out on the upgrade. Sorry for the long drawn out comment, but I really needed to talk to you lol!!

I had the same issue until the community helped us out, definitely take a snapshot of that service bulletin because I had to do the same thing, I printed it off, and I brought it into my dealer and said here’s the directions have your service tech follow them. They were able to Get the high output tune in by calling the number and the directions on that specific vehicle. If yours does not have the tune from the factory, they will request a RWQ code in order for them to process everything which will come in the mail a couple days later.

@@JT4X4OFFROADING Thank you! Maybe I’m thinking the dealership should have 1st hand knowledge of this is wrong, but frustrating nonetheless. I will do just that 🤙🏾. Question, does your truck still have a governor after the calibration? (Won’t go over 100 mph) and can you tell the difference? You also put larger tires on your truck is your speedometer sync after the calibration? Smart upgrading larger wheels/tires before the calibration

I haven’t actually gone fast enough to test the limiter, and yes, the speedometer fixed itself with all the fancy sensors. I had the dealership put the tires on so they may have done something as well.

I don’t believe there’s an upgrade available for non-turbo plus models. I could be wrong, I would definitely contact your dealer. But it is my understanding that it has to be the L3B

Are you charged for the RWQ at the point of sale when ordering the truck or do you pay when upgrading at the dealership? I just ordered a Turbo Plus yesterday.

Maybe you can answer this question for me! During your driving test it seemed pretty loud in your cab. I’ve been going nuts with my new Z71 because all I can hear is the tires droning. Do you notice that as well?

Prior to me, adding the 34 inch tires it was pretty quiet, I was actually surprised on how quiet the cab was. Now with the new tires, you can see over them home a little bit like any other oversize tire. But it’s not overly excessive.

Just recently came across your channel cuz I’m looking into buying a trail boss myself. But I just saw that your trail boss has remote start? How did you get that option? I thought that was only available for the higher trims

You can order it for the Trail Boss as a build item or after the fact. The dealer installs

No, if your truck was ordered with the high output, it’ll be in the GM’s system. If you were doing it after the fact you will pay for it and GM will send your dealer an envelope with all the information they need to incorporate it with your vin.

Is this the same as getting the HO from factory? Like it's the exact same engine with just a different computer tune?

this is the exact same thing, the Chevy Colorado’s do not come from the factory. Tuned, you still have to go through the same process the ZR2 is the only exception.

I put a deposit down on a Colorado Z71. It is currently in transit. I want the High Output flash put on it when I pick it up. Should I start the process of getting things prepped before arrival? The dealer told me it should be here in 2-3 weeks max.

Yes if it doesn’t have the RQ (pre built ready for HO tune) you need to get one sent so they can associate it with your Vin.

How tight is the steering since you added the bigger tires?

The steering is tight like a new vehicle but the stiffness is normal for the tire size but not bad at all

I wanted to know if there’s anyway to know if my motor has already been flashed when picking up my Colorado trail boss or not. I’m not too trust worthy of my dealer since they had left out some toe hooks I had paid for, but they’re claiming the flash was done upon pick up a month ago

No, not unless they called and followed the TSB steps in PDI which I highly doubt they did. It would have came with your activation code on your paperwork.

You can have another dealer hookup to your computer, it will show the tune in the rpo codes

We can't feel the difference you're feeling obviously, but that little smile when you accelerate says it all. And those torque numbers, those are really oz. of gas per step-on-it drained from your tank. :-) Be curious to compare your mileage before and after the tune.

JB4 Tuner claims it makes more power for the L3B engine but I not used it

Yes, you should be able to, get with your dealer and let them know you want the high output, engine calibration, showing the TSB. If it wasn’t ordered with yours from the factory, they will need to order it, and the dealership will receive an envelope with the proper code to call GM and activate under your Vin.

Have you looked any more in to exhausts on this? There are videos with the Silverado 2.7L Turbo with exhausts and they do sound pretty decent. To me, that seems a little weird on a full size truck though but if it can really be pulled off and sound good, it should sound great on a Colorado then. Maybe sort of like a Tacoma with exhaust, but hopefully a bit better perhaps. Curious to know from someone who has actually heard it in person, rather than through a video.

I actually haven’t looked into any of the exhaust yet, but it definitely will be on my list, I’m definitely going to keep my eye open for one. That sounds good for a four-cylinder turbo. The engine now is actually pretty quiet. Besides the turbo, the Colorado turbo just screams. Smiles per gallon

I opened up my exhaust, gave alot of life to the motor. And sound is more fitting on a smaller truck rather than a fullsize

Magnaflow has a video on KZfaq that has the interior and exterior sounds on a 23' Colorado and Canyon with several exhaust setups, some with single and some with dual exhaust. There is also a video with someone that cut the factory exhaust back to about the spare tire and they sound better to me.

You can feel that it’s more responsive, but it could be a placebo affect, 45 foot pound difference, maybe field a little bit but more so off-road probably

it had to be ordered from the factory, or after the fact, most dealers do not order them with the tune. It’s something you do after the fact. It should have been installed during the accessories phase the vehicle goes through when arrived at dealer

No, if your vehicle was purchased with the tune, they will have it attached to your Vin (digitally)when they call in to start the process they will see it.

It’s too bad the Chevy Colorado owners (except the ZR2) do not automatically get the high output engine like all the trim levels of the Canyon. All Canyon trim levels get the high output motor 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't think the Dealer install is a good Idea - I had mine on the the invoice and when I first called to check if it was done after purchase they said the service dept said was showing it was. I don't trust the dealers. There is no way to prove the tune was put on it as I have no before and after feel. All I have is the invoice and the Dealers word it was done. Wish there was some kind of check to prove it after all its $395 bucks. To be clear mine was showing 2.7L TURBO HIGH-OUTPUT 395.00 CALIBRATION (DLR INSTALL) - This is on the invoice

You can verify the RWQ code on the invoice, if they did not follow the service bulletin and activate the RWQ over the phone for your specific Vin number then it was not completed. These have not been completed during PDI.
