Judas Priest evolved with time.They went from rock/blues to metal, pre-thrash metal, heavy metal, speed metal, 80's hairmetal, you name it. The best thing is that they nailed ALL OF THEM! Even their latest album recorded last year put all the other metal records of that year to shame! (they are over 60 these days) That is why Judas Priest is the best metal band in the world in my opinion! I'we been a fan of them all my life!
@Walamonga1313
@Walamonga1313 5 жыл бұрын
That's why I love them so much. Many styles of music, kicked ass in all of them. Especially Glenn and KK, they were amazing players in the 70s already but they kept getting better and better. You listen to songs like Ram It Down or One Shot At Glory and go "what, how did these psychdelic/blues players learn to shred?!". And the best part is that while they are melting your face with blisteringly fast/complex solos, they never lost their more melodic and moody roots. Their solos always tell a story.

Contrary to what ppl may think of this song's content, it kept me alive during a bad period. During the early 80s I had "manic depression" & was suicidal. Somehow, the peace of this song, and understanding, as I thought at the time as a young adult, of me personally, kept me alive. With Victim of Changes, the greatest 'Priest songs in my opinion.

Judas Priest's best selling albums are a few years after this, 'British Steel' (1980) and 'Screaming for Vengeance' (1982) were their commercial peak. Two of my favorite Judas Priest songs from those albums are "The Rage" and "Riding on the Wind". I can't recommend 80's Priest enough, it's an amazing part of their evolution between their 70's style and Painkiller.

It's not his range alone. It's the way he adds color to his voice, he can sound like completely different singers, sometimes multiple times in a song. He changes his vibrato from song to song. He always feels what would be best for the song and the style and then sings it that way. In his prime he was incredibly flexible and could do a damn huge variety of singing styles. In my eyes he's the Freddie Mercury of metal.

When I first got this tape, a long-ass time ago, it was unlike anything else I'd ever heard. It was like stepping into an honors level class of music. I would listen to this song and try to sing with the normal parts. I knew that if a person can do this kind of range at all, let alone in the same song, they can sing damn near anything. You should hear Rob on "Epitaph" or "Last Rose of Summer," or "Here Come The Tears," as I mentioned on the last clip. I envy you, bro! You're delving into a new world. :)

I don’t want to be that guy but Priest has a lot more than 6 records between this and Painkiller. Some epic ones. Sin after Sin, Stained. class, Hell Bent For Leather British Steel Screaming for Vengeance Defenders of the Faith . I am missing 3 or 4 at least. And I have to disagree partly what you said. I agree many bands don’t evolve and just run out of gas. But priest evolved like no other. They went from a blues style to a speed metal. They evolved better than any metal band in history. From this to Beyond the Realms of Death to Dissident Aggressor and Exciter to The Grinder, Evil Fantasies , to Electric Eye and the Sentinel to Judas is Rising and Painkiller. Just crazy.

This was the 70's Bro... We would smoke a blunt, put on the headphones, spin that record, lie back on the bed and take a trip.. 70's rock albums were about the WHOLE album. The concept. Very different from today where we just listen to one song at a time in the car or on our phone while we walk. Back then, you had to make an effort to listen to music. It was a whole thing, man.... listening to music back then was a whole ritual.... This album got me through some of the worst times of my young life... Fantastic and honest analysis! It's refreshing and meaningful to hear your real time impressions from iconic songs that thousands of us fans have enjoyed for decades, especially since this kind of music is 180 degrees away from what you grew up with. Keep up the great work, and I'm glad you're enjoying and appreciating music that's new to you with such an open ear and mind.

Dangerous Meeting is prob a good intro to MF & KD. At The Graves came to mind too. So many to choose for vocals & transitions. I'm gonna predict he'll be a fan, once he opens Pandora's box. Lol

Bro you have to listen to Ronnie James Dio!!! Same era one of the best vocals of the 80s. Band name: Dio - Song: LAST IN LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won't regret it. Edit: And he sounds just as good live as he does on the album. No auto tune crap :) Edit: He also sang with BLACK SABBATH - GREAT TUNE IS HEAVEN & HELL!!!!!!!!!! Or another song: Rainbow in the Dark by Dio. RONNIE JAMES DIO IS METAL!!!
