@@SuperTugz Hell of an album. Today I was listening to Judas Priest on shuffle. Trial by Fire came on and I thought, Ah! Stained Class. Nice. Oh wait... same thing with Painkiller. For moment I forgot which album I was listening to. Been listening Painkiller and then Invincible Shield on repeat today, only interrupted by a few others here and there. I got my tickets! 1.5 Vienna. Been 10 years and only once with Richie. He really came into his own. I love KK, it's why I play Flying Vs. Well I do because they're awesome but I got them because of KK Downing. However I no longer miss him. He has his thing with KKs Priest and JP got Richie Faulkner. Fantastic!!!

The thing about priest is that every one of their albums has its own sound and style. This entire album is perfect but that intro came directly from the pits of Tartarus. In 2022 I saw Priest at the Met. They opened with one shot at glory. When Sentinel came on, the entire atmosphere instantly changed. The room went silent. In the song both Downing and Tipton play the same riff. On stage they doubled up on one guitar and added a new melody with the second one. Everyone was silent for the intro. Rob’s vocals were amazing the entire show, but nothing compared to the last few minutes of this song. His highs stretched at least half an octave higher, and for that last note he unloaded into a full on black metal shriek. He only gets better with age. Ps I also got to see a 75 year old Glenn Tipton with Parkinson’s walk out and solo.

KK Downing had a heavy hand in writing this song. The 6 part lead swap between Tipton and Downing is just killer. They swapped the solo three times each and then came together for a joint end. The Sentinel is the blueprint and the archetype of a great, epic and perfect metal song. To me it is probably the greatest overall metal song ever. The intro that returns in the middle of the song, the sound, the solo, the spoken dramatic part, the ending and above all Rob Halford's voice... I am 60 and I have been a metalhead since 1976 when I was 13 and I sure am not stuck in the past and I love all metal genres and the heavier and more extreme the better.

51yr old metal head here. mad RESPECT for how you 2 have such a knowledgeable unbiased breakdown of music! calling power ballad metal medium thrash is so appropriate as you can feel what influenced thrash metal bands. Glen Tipton & KK Downing are pioneers of bands with 2 lead guitarists. as far as Priest goes you've probably covered songs like Screaming For Vengeance, Turbo Lover, Painkiller... here's a couple suggestions for some somewhat obscure extremely talented Hard Rock/Metal from the late 80's-early 90's: Future World by Pretty Maids, Black Wind, Fire, and Steel by Manowar, The Headless Children by WASP, Hypnotized by Heathen as for some traditional Brazilian music influenced metal checkout Jumpdaf*ckup, Back to the Primitive, Tree of Pain all 3 by Soulfly lastly, true metal torch bearers the modern band composed of 3 young brothers from KC: Hammerhedd (any of their songs) enjoyed the video. subbed ✌️🐝➕

There isn't a stereo loud enough to listen to this properly. Of all the great hits that Priest had, this one grew to be my favourite through the mid eighties.

You guys should definitely check out the live version of this song. Watching Rob Halford sing this live and keep going and higher and higher during the chorus is insane. And the dueling guitar solos is so sick live 🤘🏼🎸

I saw this band live so many times in the 80s. What an amazing performance they gave every time! Top 3 favorite bands of all time for me.

If you like "nasty riffs", the song Heavy Duty on Defenders of the Faith is one of the nastiest of all time. And Freewheel burning has EPIC high-speed rap verses in it. One of the classic metal albums for sure.

The best song ever written. The whole first side (LP) of Defenders Of The Faith is the best side of an album ever. Heavy Metal is my religion and Judas is my Priest \m/\m/

Being a teenager during the time this album was released was incredible. My first Judas Priest concert was Defenders of the Faith and the next three. Judas Priest put on the best concerts. Top of the game pros. What I witnessed with Priest is the musicianship got better. They sound better live then the studio album.

Priest formed in 69 , maiden came on the scene in 75 w a album in 76 The line of demarcation is that Maiden never had a guitarist like Glen Tipton , not even close .

Are you kidding me lol. ever heard or Dave Murray & Adrian Smith? greatest guitar duo ever
@jfender8023
@jfender8023 6 ай бұрын
@@Ronnieromance sorry your upset , but they play the same pentatonic motifs in most of their lead breaks Tipton as most guitarists w a piano background have a broader harmonic and melodic range. Tipton was the first player to introduce record two hand tapping that EDWARD is known for. There are only a few players that have consistently improved their playing and continued studying throughout their career Tipton is one of them. Most pop players NEVER improve and play the same when we first heard them debut; Adrian and Dave are proof .

What a GREAT song - so glad you guys didn't go with the more radio-friendly ones like Living After Midnight or Breaking the Law after YGATC. This song still gives me chills after 40 years of listening to it - my favorite Priest song. Not as well known by the general public but a classic to the band's fans.
