1998 Kyokushin One Match Challenge Fox Sports TV Coverage
Judd Reid (Australia) vs Stephen Takiwa (New Zealand)
This fight is commentated by Michael Shiavello and Mark "The Hammer" Castagnini.
The huge crowd and extensive media coverage demonstrates what a golden era this was for Kyokushin Karate in Australia.
It is interesting to note that the commentators discuss Sosai Mas Oyama and specifically the 100 man kumite. Perhaps they could foresee what lay ahead in Judd's future.
Takiwa was the NZ heavyweight champion for over a decade, A very strong match up and well fought by both fighters!

"A spinning hook kick from heaven" the commentator said. Ni wonder during Sensei Reid 100 man kumite all of them avoided this kick. They probably studied his fight.

Because in a real fight it's game over after the knock down u can finish the opponent off if they stay down for 3sec or more.
@wilhelmu
@wilhelmu 5 жыл бұрын
@@FaridYM no, in real fight, it takes many, many kicks to the head to knock someone down. no fight ends up only because someone went to the ground. there are many things you can do from ground position, check out BJJ
@FaridYM
@FaridYM 5 жыл бұрын
@@wilhelmu ok be my guest and please let yourself kick many many times to the head and see if you can still fight after that "WITHIN 3 seconds.......-_- " . . I do grappling myself after quitting striking and although I admit there's many things u can do from the ground. None of those things would be achieved WITHIN 3secs after being knocked down. That's the whole purpose of this rule set

@@FaridYM i got kicked many times in the head during school fight when i was 14, by a dude who was 17. he took me to the ground and kept kicking until i managed to get back up. it was sure dangerous, and painful, but not a certain knockout.

@The Greatman none, i was 15 or 14, and i was fighting a 17 year old in school corridor. it was back in i dunno, 2007? not many people even had phones there with good enough camers and no one was thinking of recording in the heat of the moment it happend right after we exit the class

No it's not. It's highly flawed. Karate is almost a complete art if trained properly

@@TheRastacabbage Yes it is. Which karate style comes even close to Kyokushin?
@TheRastacabbage
@TheRastacabbage 3 жыл бұрын
@@whitesquare2378 close to kyokushin in what way? No Japanese 'style of karate' has anything to do with the okinawan via china grappling based martial art that is karate. Japanese karate is kickboxing with some kata thrown in for dance practice
@whitesquare2378
@whitesquare2378 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRastacabbage I meant close to the sheer fighting intensity and the number of knockouts. Okinawan grappling system is obviously outdated. It's a non contact show and real fighters are usually not even mildly interested in it. If fighters want to learn grappling, then they usually have a dilemma between choosing wrestling, BJJ or Judo. Karate grappling is not even on the list of grappling systems to be considered, for these who want to improve their grappling. So I meant to say that even though Kyokushin is not a complete fighting system and has many flaws, it is still by far a more practical karate style than any other style.
