In an unusual burst of anger, Judge Caprio lectures a mother about not holding her son accountable for his actions.

These are real people, not actors. Please keep that in mind when you comment. They don't deserve negative scrutiny. Thank you.

He is the most considered judge. When he is being ‘harsh’, which to me he really isn’t at all, he always calms the person and explains he doesn’t mean to be harsh. He is so lovely.
@tekozlofiu
@tekozlofiu 6 ай бұрын
I don't think he meant harsh as "rude". Rather jumping too quickly to the conclusion about a reckless son and an overprotective mother. Then realizing there's something deeper going on that she's not willing to share. He apologized for being judgmental.

Because she lost her husband she "holds on" to her son by letting him do whatever he wants to. THE SON is the awful one to take advantage of the situation. I know.. my Dad died when I was 5 and my brother was 13. My brother bullied and took advantage of my mother from that day on, and my mother never wanted to "lose her son" so she never got tough with him. Well today he is a total entitled narcissist who expects to always come before others. Please lady don't enable him any longer, you aren't helping him by doing so.

Just because someone has grown children doesn't mean they care about their parent. I was the sole caregiver for my Mom and NONE of my siblings ever stepped up to help with anything. She would cry because she felt so unloved and unwanted, no matter how much I tried to reassure her that she had me. And then she would cry because she felt like she was such a burden on me. They majority of them lived within a twenty minute drive, but their visits were few and far between. Maybe once every six or seven months, and phone calls were just as infrequent. They have to live with the guilt now.

Hopefully they cut out the rest of the story. She would not say why she could not have her son pay the ticket. She could have said he has no money, he has a disability, he is taking the loss of his father too hard, or a dozen other reasons. She just kept saying she would pay the ticket. She needed the judge to ask why. She may be in an abusive situation and feared asking her son to pay the bill. Regardless of the story, this family needs help beyond the forgiveness of $40.00 plus late fees. She was willing to pay that. What does she really need.

She is grieving .. the son is mostly not caring .. look where he is .. and when the judge told her .. she said she will pay it herself which means .. she is avoiding confronting him .. mostly because she is at a vulnerable stage .. and needs support .. imagine 7yrs later and she is still crying as if her husband died recently .. this woman is in so much pain .. and seems the son is causing part of it. I assume if she talks to him, he will breaks her heart .. which is why she is not doing it.

She should do what I did with my Son. For his High School graduation gift, I kicked him out. He quickly learned that he didn't have all the answers, and after a year of struggling on his own, he joined the Marines. After a stint in the Marines, he's a fine young man. Now, we get along great. I always loved him, but now I can honestly say I also like him. It's called tough love, and all parents should try it. Instead they coddle these kids, and only make things worse.

She needs help for her depression someone to talk it out with. Poor woman is lost and lonely and swallowing the blame and anger from her son. Grief hits in different ways. I have aspirations to sit as a Magistrate one day many years from now. I look at Judge Caprio as an inspiration for the type of person I would emulate. Firm when needed but compassionate when warranted. Magistrates where I am have huge discretionary powers when it comes to matters, and I would see that the fairness for people in an aggressively authoritarian society would be upheld. Everyone falls down, it's how we pick ourselves back up that counts. I bless the Honorable Judge Caprio, wishing him all the best in life, much respect and admiration and thank him for his service. I routinely make donations to his fund, as I know they will be used for those most desperate in need. Much respect from the land down under Judge Caprio. Regards, Mike - JP(Qual) JD BCCJ

Judge Caprio was frustrated, not angry. When he heard more details, he was compassionate.

Judge Frank Caprio wasn't angry just being honest . The son was given a break , and then he didn't pay the 40 dollars and he didn't say anything to his mom about that so she found out years later . The Judge is right , he has to take responsibility or he will have trouble in life . I think Judge Caprio was actually really patient and honest and sincere . Don't say he was angry when he clearly wasn't . Frustration IS NOT anger .

I don’t think she fears him, she is just over protective, I’ve seen this kind of attitude all my life.
