they should settle this case on judge Judy. and have judge Judy be both the judge and the defendant running back and forth between the defendant's seat and the judge's seat.

So they, according to the contract, were entitled to 5% of the PROFITS. So if the programme does not make a profit then 5% of nothing is nothing. Next time the person who drafts the contract should learn the difference between profit and turn over.

Fair enough, but if they can afford to pay Judy $47 mil a season, it's kind of hard to argue they're not making a profit.

Judge Judy is a hot commodity And I love her and her show dearly. I love her style but I must say I would never go on her show as a plaintiff or a defendant only because I probably would ramble on and she would tell me to save my problems for Dr. Phil.
@umedavk2011

You're right Tracy. This is no longer a court of law which is meant to be quiet, objective and serious. This is just Hollywood-style entertainment which is why so many people enjoy it. As you say : a hot commodity.
@WhiteLionWolf100
@WhiteLionWolf100 7 жыл бұрын
+Senior Rocker, maybe you have never watched her show or actual courtroom proceedings, but she keeps it quiet as necessary, objective, and as serious as necessary. It is probably one of the reasons she is so popular (hence the "no nonsense judge" phrase).
@umedavk2011
@umedavk2011 7 жыл бұрын
I have watched a few of her episodes but, having been brought up on the British legal system, I find JJ to be too theatrical by comparison. I'm not surprised that Americans like her because your court procedures allow for much more informality. That's the difference. Americans seem to like 'Hollywoody' stuff because that is what you've been brought up with. Each to their own I suppose. I regard British drama, and acting, to be the best because I've been brought up in countries heavily influenced by Britain. BTW, I'm not British.
@WhiteLionWolf100
@WhiteLionWolf100 7 жыл бұрын
She is actually the least theatrical and most professional out of any coutroom judge on tv. She is also one of the most successful, so that kinda indicates to me that Americans like a judge with personality but who is still straightforward and professional. As far as judges that do not appear in tv shows, they do generally act more stoic I suppose when in the courtroom, but even that is not always the case. I am an American, but I cannot say I have necessarily grown up with only very "Hollywoody" entertainment. I have watched American, British, Japanese, etc. forms of entertainment. The British and American do not seem to be that different as far as drama and theatrics go when you are comparing apples to apples.
@Tanya07709
@Tanya07709 7 жыл бұрын
+Senior Rocker Girl please. Broaden your horizons and see Latin American judge shows. They are EXTREMELY over the top and informal. Isn't it too bad that people try to emulate Judge Judy and the Peoples Court in American and abroad? Think on that. Lol. The only thing people don't want to emulate abroad is Donald Trump and his ilk lmao.

I like watching Judge Judy, I like her as a person when she's being interviewed on other shows, she's not the same as she is in the courtroom, but demanding 47 MILLION per year as her annual salary, is a bit much. I couldn't spend that much money IN ONE lifetime, let alone receiving it EVERY YEAR. I see though that she IS getting older and she's probably tired of doing the show. I'm guessing she was hoping they wouldn't commit to that high of a payment. Lol... Judge Judy, everybody just likes you and the network KNOWS they get some wicked HIGH ratings as long as they keep you. You could probably get more than that because they don't want to lose their ratings, but I do have to say, there is NO WAY I would want to be a plaintiff OR a defendant in front of you. You're kind of scary on the bench. You say it like it is, and usually what people are thinking anyway, and that is why the corporation wants to keep you. You're very entertaining!

most of the new episodes are just fake or may so that most of the people that get on get no mater what $5000 on both side. it is funny on how some of the episodes before one of the newer season. to me there some cases where it sound like the plaintiff have all the evidence to win the case, but end up having it go to the other person or get dismiss. i know most of the hot bench episodes are better at being real. they have one cases where the landlord and his two witness are remove for not shutting there mouth and let the judges to ask them what the plaintiff have say about how things happen. i like most of the old episodes of the show when the cases are real and that when a person have all the evidence to win do win in the end.

Judge Judy usually treats one or both of the litigants on her show with utter contempt, often resorting to insulting or abusive language such as name calling, and yet, she wouldn’t have a show without them! People can easily stop her cold by refusing to appear on her show and subject themselves to her abrasive personality and bogus sense of justice. Take your case to a legitimate court. The $100 appearance fee is not worth the public humiliation or vilification you will likely suffer regardless of the strength of your case. Don’t assume that because you have the necessary documentation you will win on Judge Judy. She may refuse to even look at it.

+Senior Rocker, try to do some research first please next time. She served about 25 years as a judge before she retired and got on the show. She is not masquerading as a judge. She was a rather experienced judge who then was hired to be an arbitrator in a courtroom television show. She also only appears to be rude to people who do the wrong thing legally, morally, or just act like idiots.
@umedavk2011
@umedavk2011 7 жыл бұрын
The phrase 'masquerading as a judge' was meant to indicate that she is now, with her phenomenal salary, much more responsive to her media image/role, than she is to the serious requirements of a sobre judge. I wonder how many other judges in the US would behave the way she does. I would venture to suggest 'not many' because JJ seems to be playing up to the cameras, and her populist appeal, as much as she is to her judicial role. However, I've only seen a few other US judges in action and they behave nothing like this. But you would know better than me because I don't live in the US of A.
@WhiteLionWolf100
@WhiteLionWolf100 7 жыл бұрын
She should be somewhat responsive to her media/image role, but that does not mean she is being disingenuous to her profession necessarily. As far as the requirements of a judge go, while she is perhaps more harsh than many judges, she is fair. Her personality and such that portrays through while she is working is one of the main reasons she was hired for the show. It seems to have become more obvious as the years have gone on, but it is a tv show. She is rather strict on court room decorum and behavior, but it does not mean she has to act like a stoic.

Yes. People watch her because they love how she handles people In most cases, the people deserve what they get from her. These people CHOOSE to go on her show. Nobody forces them. They know her style before they go to the show, yet they still go.

First of all we all know her show is fake, in the real world, in real small claims court the judges never act like she does. They are very polite and courteous. But wouldn't it be funny if the judge in her trial treated her and spoke to her like she speaks to defendants on her show.

Irony; Why is Judge Judy so pretty in every outing, event, photo when she is not at work... But on her show she is more pale (I'm MORE pale than she is..so not criticizing..just curious) and hair styled like a much older woman? C'mon Judge...with 47 million..make them allow you to be the "current" you!
