I'm terrible at judging paintjobs, but I sure like talking about minis! In this video we look at some of the paintjobs which were bravely submitted to a painting competition: the Goobertown Roulette League!
Contestants grabbed a random mini to paint and rolled dice to pick some tricky colors to paint them up with. The resulting crop is diverse and wonderful!
I encourage everyone to give Goobertown Roulette and other mini painting competitions a try! They are great ways to get out of your comfort zone and learn something new! The official Goobertown Roulette League is open to Goobertown Patreon supporters. A new season is underway now, and the Goobertown Discord server is popping with comradery sweet WIP (work in progress) pictures! Thanks to the Goobertown Patreons who make that Discord server such a lovely place :-)

I love that you're not judging the minis or point out mistakes that you spotted. Instead you point out things that caught your attention, no matter how big or small they might be. And the way you are dealing with Snuffles, when he tries to interrupt your recording is just phenomenal.

I think the world needs more positivity. So many people just focus on problems, seek out flaws and generally criticise everything. But it takes a special kind of person to see past all of that, to the opportunities, the successes and the beauty that surrounds us. Don't ever stop being that way, Brent.
@AKKK1182
@AKKK1182 3 жыл бұрын
While I largely agree, having someone tell you what you're doing wrong or can improve on helps you get better a lot more and a lot faster. Of course you can always compliment the good, but providing at least general constructive critisism will help the author actually improve, as opposed to "hehe thanks" and having no idea what to focus on when someone says "omg so cool". Some of the people in this video have the colour arrangements and even highlights/shading down to a tee, yet their models look like they've been dipped in nail polish, imagine what masterpieces they could create if someone taught them to properly thin their paints.
@haydenandersen9937
@haydenandersen9937 2 жыл бұрын
@@AKKK1182 I think that most of that comes with time. Criticism is really helpful, but for beginner painters those early projects will mean a lot later on. I often see people recommend edge highlights, blending and glazing when people are asking for basic help and advice, but I feel like newbies would be better served developing their style naturally.

I'd like to applaud Artemis on a job well done. I have a special love hate relationship with wizkids miniatures. They're affordable, but you have to put up with thick, detail obscuring primer and the cool looking cloaks/capes can get in the way of the brush and leave the mini with a glaring glob of white. I like the red cape contrasting with the cooler blue of the dragonborn's scales. And the magic effects of the ice shield(well, it looks like ice) and the sword. Good show and please continue your work.

I think the model having a white cloak, plenty of gold and a bit of red on just one side of the figure came off as having a very balanced appearance because the artist used a pigment containing a green in the area of both hands. The complements red and green or any pair of complements such as yellow and violet always tie one to the other visually for the observer. I am not a figure painter, but a bit of a watercolurist. I love using complements and love using no more than 3 or 4 colors from which all other colors of the painting are derived. This creates a wonderful color harmony that never fails to be visually perfect.
