That is do true.I've worked 15 years on nightclubs.Cover head so you dont get KOed. Close distance and than do your Street Judo😃koshi guruma or tai otshi. I also used daeshi barai mamy times in line od work. If someone attacks you on the street or on a club they do not expect to be thrown. 99% expect punches not being grabbed and introduced to the floor😃

I'm interested in learning Judo for self defense. How hard is it when throwing someone in a self defense situation to make sure that their head doesn't smash into the pavement? That's the one thing I'm worried about in ever using a throw like that in a self defense situation, because if you throw an attacker onto concrete and they're not expecting to get thrown and they're not trained in how to fall their head could easily smash down on the ground and people can die like that. I heard people getting knocked out or thrown and then hitting their head on the ground is the most common way people die in a fight.

worked at nightclubs, i assumed you have very good condition, is it possible for person to do street judo without good stamina as you are?

Control opponent all the way down. Also if you have been attacked you should consider your safety first. Apart from that Judo is a way of life so approach it with right attitude. Other thing is that what are the odds that you will every be physically attacked on your life? Unless you are really looking for it 🤣

Abdurrahman Madip youre not gonna be able to do any of these techniques just by watching yoitube videos and having “no stamina” if you wanna get good you gotta train hard and do hard randori not just learn the techniques. So to answer your question , no because the good stamina comes along w the training.

The technique shown at 0:29 where you block a haymaker punch, get a headlock grip, and then do a hip throw looks like an extremely effective move for self defense if someone could pull that off. One thing though that I want to mention is that when throwing someone down onto concrete you would have to make sure that their head doesn't smash into the ground, because they could be killed like that. That headlock grip is great, better than an underhook on an arm it seems, because then you could clinch that headlock super tight and pull up a little bit to make sure the attackers head doesn't smash into the pavement.

Love this little series, because you approach self-defense from a realistic POV, and have obviously trained some (kick-)boxing, instead of the traditional "suppose he attacks me with a banana"-type of exercises.

Hints; As though to be myself a future instructor class I let my student to recognised the cross X and Y perspective coordinates as what been taught by Bruce Lee at his book "Tao of Jeet Kune Do" because a most serious cases on the perceiving a fistfighting were many fails to recognised those qualitative Boxers to flex their skills able to hit the target whilst many of the striking preys did not seen the inbound strikes, even myself were also failure to see the incoming fists due to either speed or the stealthy mechanics obtained by each crafty fighters

No worries, man! When it doesn't work in randori just take it back step by step: drilling with a willing opponent, then drilling with a resisting opponent and, finally, back to randori. I have the same problem with my BJJ, but it usually comes after a 2-3 rounds of this process. Also remember that there are a lot of components that come into play even for some pretty simple techniques (stance, grip fighting, balance, strength, technique, etc.). When I see my technique failing I usually try to take it back to where I started and check each step. At any rate, keep training! Osu!

The thing about self-defending judo is that you don't really need to, or have to, maim or kill or injure the attacker. Of course these counter responses to being attacked will obviously put a world of hurt on the attacker. Just trying to attack anymore after some of this is imparted in return is going to be a mighty painful endeavor.

yep i feel you man i think it's better to go for a morote gari than a single leg… i Don't think it's a good idea to attack the leg like freestyle wrestling in self defense. It's to easy to get a knee strike on your face or just the opponent to move and you fail to grab his leg… I think the best combo is greco-roman wrestling and judo attacks

Point taken, I find if you lower your hips first, you can crouch like that even if you're on a hard surface. I think you could also modify it in the street so that your knees didn't quite hit the ground. It's self-defense, not a tournament, you won't get points taken away. Foot sweeps would also work haha

@@user-fu4il4sj8g I know this is a 7 month old comment, but the SAME EXACT principle applies. You wanna pound his face so that he covers up, and when he's shelled up like that, you go in for the clinch and wrap your arms around his torso instead of his leg. Then from there you can suplex him (kinda risky on concrete, since there's a good chance you can injure yourself and also possibly kill him), or trip him (much safer), or from there you can go for a much more controlled transition to his leg without fear of injuring yourself. Another possibility is you can also quickly transition into grabbing him from the back, where it'll be much easier to slam him. As for what to do AFTER you have him on the ground? There's a good possibility that he might have broken his fall by posting, or shifting his weight, or doing all of the "instinctual" things people will do to break their fall, so there's a good chance that a slam won't be enough to end the fight. In that case, all you have to do is gain top dominance, from which you can rain blows down on him, which will quickly sap him of his strength and will. If he manages to get back up, repeat the first steps. Make him scared of your striking game so that he turtles up. Go for the clinch. From the clinch, go for the takedown. From the takedown, go for the ground and pound. If he gets up, repeat. If he starts to anticipate the clinch and the top striking, go for body kicks, leg kicks, single legs, or double legs.

I like the idea of if they throw a haymaker to block and slip into their defense (your first technique shown.. koshi guruma).. but I'd add a slap to their ear (or thumb in their eye) before moving my hand around their neck. Stun them before the throw. That way I doubt they will execute a proper fall (and land like a sack of beans.) At my age dirty poker is the way to fight....

Look out for the downward elbow strikes! but if you upset his balance quickly and don’t tangle up or lose grip on his leg, he won’t have any power, and you’ll certainly come out on top. Years ago wrestlers would threaten basic tackle against TKD, and I would usually sprawl, knee to head, or hit back of their neck with down X block and elbows to their back and back of head, of course that is illegal in MMA, but not self-defense. So striking will work against wrestling, and Judo, unless, as you demonstrate, take his back and upset balance, continuing with the attack. Nice work. And thanks for your excellent videos sharing ideas, knowledge and skills.

Tackling is attacking. It is an offensive attacking act against someone. None of this is attacking; this is all response to attack, being attacked. It is self-defending. A fool who attacks someone can be very well on their way to a bad mess of a day. Should the self-defender be trained at all. Especially in judo.
