Happy to see such an in-depth interview touching on mental health, rather than the usual fluff. IMHO Deguchi was robbed of the 2020 Olympic spot by Judo Canada's decision to make it purely based on the 2021 World Champs standings (rather than a head-to-head like with Abe and Maruyama). I suspect there was some politics involved to favour the "homegrown" Klimkait.

I truly support your opinion about biaised selection. Some of the officials commented: "Deguchi as half canadian, was a japanese judo representative whereas Jessika was a pure Canadian judo". Then they did every thing to get it done

Great sportsmanship always, inside and outside the mat. Wonderful behaviour. Always respectful and polite to her opponents, Christa has a respectful and clean judo. On top, a beautiful face. I hope that you become an olympic champion in Paris!

Than you or the coaches had to teach her that she must prepare herself also maybe for a loss sometimes. A person can‘t always win. Doesn’t matter if its sports or another area in life. That is so important to know for mental health.
