TJGE Album Of The Month is JUST FOR OPENERS released by Capitol Records in 1964. The song we have chosen to represent the album is The Battle Hymn Of The Republic. Director Jaycub has combined the track from the album, rare film of John Kennedy, and footage of Judy singing the song, to create a nostalgic, patriotic, bittersweet, and soul stirring video.

I was at work the day President Kennedy was shot, one of they guys in my office came running in yelling Kennedys been shot in Texas. We were horrified, at the time I was 20 years old, he was out hope for the future of this Country, and a very very sad day for this Country

Ok man what a beautiful tribute to our president who was killed in front of millions of people and I still don’t know why. My mom said we killed him because he didn’t believe in the Vietnam war and if that’s the case how freakin sad man!!!. Judy garland rocks she sings this song so well that I have tears running down my cheeks. She was and is still an amazing woman.

Judy wanted to sing this song the week after Kennedy's death but CBS said no, that it would be too morbid and America wanted to move on from JFK's death. Judy was FURIOUS at CBS brass, especially because she and JFK had become good friends and Judy had worked hard to help get JFK elected. This performance was recorded in February, I believe. It's still blood-curdling, her performance. She loved JFK and was devastated by his assassination. She used to call JFK to say hello and when their conversations ended, JFK always asked if she would sing the last stanzas of Over The Rainbow.

I was 15 when President Kennedy was assassinated. For those of us living in the US, for a short period of time, the world stopped. I think all of us young people loved President Kennedy. Judy Garland, well our parents were her fans, but her song helped eased the pain for a lot of us.

@EagleArrow 4 жыл бұрын
I was born after his assassination, MLK, & RFK. When learning about these assassinations all at once and add Lincoln to it, many in my generation didn't believe the stories given. We questioned it right away. As what are the odds? There are no coincidences and frankly it was quite a sloppy cover up. Children are very perceptive and brain is not yet controlled. I am still mad about JFK as he was decent & good for America. I researched all his speeches & executive orders and they were good for America. (Not really believe his affairs are true in a controlled media. Look how they treat Trump. Just so hate crazy it makes the brain think, something not right.) He was the good fighting the evil. I still want justice for his murder. God will handle, but our nation never healed from JFK & would like closure no matter what the truth is, we need the truth. We have an idea of the truth, but the future children learning should not be lied too. I never believed the Warren Commission, but it also taught me not to trust the government, the media and to question everything. I've done okay and my oldest is now a doctor. JFK was a Conservative Democrat Patriot. He would not align with the current Democratic party. Trump is very much aligned with JFK's view. Sorry, but the party was hijacked by radicals and by some in the Republican party too. Our beloved Country was hijacked and run by shady characters since his murder. Look what all happened in the 60s. No bibles in schools, drug era, Roe vs Wade, Vietnam, dumbing down America, sexism, Play Boy Club. It was all a plan to bring down America in one generation. Now they just don't teach much about their murders, nor much about Tesla. So I teach my kids about this era and let them question the narrative.

JFK was not perfect. We all know that now. But what he stood for, and more importantly for whom he stood for, undoubtedly makes him an honorable man. To be cowardly assassinated the way he was not only make him a victim, but elevates him to hero status. His life was cut short at a moment in time when we loved him the most. For those of us who remember President Kennedy, the pain remains the same. And sadness still overcomes us. And grief. But his legacy grows with every year.

He was not perfect, but he brought something we still need--hope. And the knowledge that imperfect people can inspire- true for his brothers as well. That we have come to the travesty of MAGA is almost the death of hope---but the truth of the great ones goes marching on. If you want another weeper, watch Jackie Moms Mabley sing Abraham, Martin and John.

To honor Kennedy, Judy originally wanted to do a concert program of great traditional American songs. Musical director Mel Torme loved the idea, but CBS execs said no, they thought audiences would want to get back to regular programming as soon as possible. This number was "slipped in" and, according to Torme, got the most genuine ovation he had ever heard or seen.

This is absolutely heartfelt and a very emotional performance from the great Judy Garland to her friend John F Kennedy! Judy, John F Kennedy, and Marilyn Monroe were all born under the Gemini zodiac and were all taken too soon!

This poor woman had undiagnosed Parkinson's Disease judging off her involuntary body movements. This would explain a lot of her depression, alcohol abuse, need for barbiturates in order to sleep. Everything i'm seeing in her movements is EXACTLY what i do and am on half a doz meds for. May this dear woman rest in peace

That was so GD Amazing!! She will never cease to blow my mind with her God Given Talent! I only wish SHE realized what WE all knew all along..THAT SHE WAS HEAVEN SENT!😇 Her beautiful rendition to this song at such a terrible time only shows the bond the two shared. 2 people who were taken far to soon

@@saskoilersfan I think that proved my point. I know that this existence, at times, can be HELL on earth..you just have to be your best self & get through it while spreading as much love & positivity as possible..Then when it's time to go..and none of us know that time..so we should Live like Tomorrow is Never Promised..& go out having no regrets. I remember that Sir Winston Churchill requested that this song be played at his funeral (in 1965). He was half American so it seemed natural to do so .

November 25, 1963: The first of four days of rehearsals at CBS for the next episode of "The Judy Garland Show." Judy was still distraught over the recent assassination of her friend, John F. Kennedy. She wanted to do a one hour concert of patriotic songs in his honor and to help lift the spirits of the country. CBS turned her down. Allegedly their response was "in two weeks no one will remember JFK" (!!!) She slipped a tribute to him in the taping of another episode of the show on December 13th when she sang this chilling rendition of "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic." Just prior to singing the song, she said to the camera "This is for you, Jack" (JFK) The network cut that out.
