For all of you that requested a followup please know that Judy and I thank you for all the kind comments. Judy is doing quite well and hearing sounds that genuinely amaze her. She has established recognition of some of my vocabulary and has often replied to a question and was not even looking at me when I spoke. It is a wonderful journey and we look forward to the next chapter together.

My best friend from high school is getting his cochlear implant on July 20, 2020. I am sooooo excited for him!! He's been deaf all his life.. Often made fun of and ridiculed because no one truly understood him. He is one of the most AMAZING people I know!!! I can't wait to see the look on his face when he hears his voice for the very first time!! I'll be with him on this new adventure through every step of the way, as much as possible, since we live about an hour from each other, but I'll be here for him!

I'm on a string of videos of people getting hearing for the first time... since when have we been able to cure deafness? It's incredible.
@marleyrobertson64179 жыл бұрын
Yeah not all people can do this, depends on the damage done to the hearing. They THINK maybe in 10 years deafness with be cured in alsmot all cases. But yeah this is going to start happening. Technology is start to change faster, kind of a Moorse law thing. These kinds of things are just going to creep up on us. It will be like "When did this start happening?"

Judy's adorable smile makes this all the more touching. Cochlear implants are a technical miracle, and we know that once something like this is invented, the technology gets more refined with each new release. I'm confident that someday people with Cochlear implants will be able to hear the same range of sounds the rest of us can and will be able to enjoy music.

I am so so so fascinated with how people describe hearing, I find it weird when the nurse says things like 'can you hear', surely these people would be like....I literally have no concept of what that question means, SOMETHING is different and I guess that's what hearing is but I don't think I know how to answer. What I would absolutely love to see, though I've not found it yet, is someone hearing music for the first time ever.
@JimmyOgilvie529 жыл бұрын
I saw one like that. It was a documentary on T.V. like several years ago. It was about an 18 year old girl who was completely deaf from birth. I think this was before they had these new fangled implants. But the girl was given transplants of inner ears (or something) that came from an organ donor. She had huge bandages on her ears for weeks after the surgery. The day came for them to remove the bandages and she was filmed. Everyone in the room was totally silent. They took off the bandages and put big headphones on her. Then they played a Mozart symphony (or something like that) through the headphones for her. (Viewers could hear it also, but faintly so they could know what she was hearing.) They gradually turned up the volume and when she first started hearing it she got totally hysterical crying and begged them to make it louder and louder. It was mind-numbing and I'm hysterical now myself and every time I think about it. After seeing that, I decided I was donated my inner ear things too so that someone else born deaf could hear music, and the music of someone's voice saying "I love you". (More Kleenix please! LOL)

***** I wish I could remember the name of the program. It was on T.V. several years back .... maybe even before KZfaq was invented. Could have been like 15 years ago. Sorry, can't remember.
@hmmthinking42089 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I guess deaf people would associate sound with vibrations and oral gestures (I don't know I'm not deaf). But then hearing is a whole different thing to vibrations because it's the brain interpreting the sound waves/vibrations. THEN playing it inside our brain like organic speakers that don't need to vibrate to make sound. It's crazy. Each to their own but I find this stuff mind blowing. Hard to believe we're not created by someone unfathomably intelligent. This woman is such a beautiful soul. Loved this video.
@hmmthinking42082 жыл бұрын
@@louisevannorden2001 I am a believer my friend. People say you cannot prove there is a God. There is proof all around us and inside us, right down to the spirit. Humans have spent a trillion hours trying to create robots that can only do 1% of what humans can do. If that level of intelligence is required to make a robot seem human, imagine the intelligence required to create an actual human. Be blessed!
