Judy did a great job conveying what we all felt about Mama's character. She underrates the value she brought to the show although I understand the feeling of boredom. How powerful to so much with less. We are still in love with Michael Learned after all these years! Thank you Judy!

For those of us who desire family, but was not the chance in their lives to have one, the Waltons kind of took the place of the need and desire, watching your family, brought a sense of calmness and escapism, otherwise to a very ordinary life. Thank you for the great adventure!

I founded a children’s bereavement center in York, PA called, Olivia’s House. It was named after Olivia Walton because she epitomized comfort during painful times. When children lose a loved one, our mission provides comfort at no cost. I watched your show my entire childhood with my grandma, and I related to MaryEllen the most. This was such a nice show. Thank you so much for all you both have given to our world! Twenty years after we began our mission, it seems the world needs the Waltons more now than ever. We now have grown to two centers within our community to care for children after a loss. Keep on doing what you are doing, and we, at Olivia’s House, will continue as well!❤

I love what they did with Olivia's character after she more or less went through the empty nest. She showed her strength throughout the show being a Mom and then went on to college, became a teacher. If only we all had that kind of strength to move through life graciously. You Michael portrayed the character very well!

The reason the show worked in my eyes besides the great writing is the cast...if all of you kids fought and bickered and didn't like each other it would have stood out. The fact all of you kids and adults then and now got along and still do basicly consider yourselves family and the love is real came through on screen. It is simply something that was either there or it wasn't as i don't think you could fake real family love all of those years if it wasn't real. I think that is a huge reason why The Waltons as well as a few other family shows did so well and still have legions of fans...and we all know those family lessons and values are so badly needed nowadays. That kitchen is so beautiful...and it is always great seeing your videos Judy. I am the type that likes to know the back stories and I appreciate your content a lot🙂

What an insightful interview with Miss Learned who says she actually welcomes having gotten . ..a few years older so that she doesn't feel any pressure to be 'perfect! I wonder if she now feels more appreciation for how Miss Corby carved her own trail and was unafraid of seeking new adventures even in her later years. Yeah, it's a great skill that Miss Learned has learned to act without fellow performers 'catching it'! She sure seems to now be enjoying her life in a way that would have made Olivia proud! I think her screen time was less and she felt frustrated by that. Actors want to act so I can understand her frustration. She was still a young and beautiful actress.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you told Michael about the importance of her presence, at times, even if she felt she wasn't doing anything of substance. I'm sorry that she felt somehow unimportant in what she was doing, professionally, at the time. I hope she is able yto realize how much she is dearly loved, even now, and that she will be able to re-examine her contribution to the series and how fans admiration and the comfort of seeing her in the series will continue to grow for many years to come. Thanks so much, again, for this segment. :)

How wonderful to watch! I absolutely loved The Waltons. The acting never seemed like acting. It all seemed so natural. I was a huge fan of Michael’s and of yours, as I was also a nurse, married to a doctor. How nice to see that you are such natural lovely people. I so enjoyed your interview!

Yes, it is so important that the younger generation learn from people older than them. Over the years, I learned so much from my mother about her life experiences. Remembering the past is just as important as present times.

I watched The Waltons episode “The Theft” last night and I kept in mind what Michael said about not eating the food in the scenes at the family table. There were two scenes at the table in that episode. In the first scene Michael was the only family member who didn’t eat anything. In the second she held a corn cob up to her mouth but obviously wasn’t eating it. It really made me laugh.

Michael was, and is, one of the most natural actors of her time. She had that rare ability to generate a powerful presence through subtlety . You're so right Judy, in that she never looked like she was acting. Her presence really was one of the main anchors of the Waltons, and such a hole was left behind when she departed.

We missed Michael so much after she left the show, but hearing her talk about her reasons now makes a lot of sense. When Ellen Corby came back, we were so happy! I'd spent a lot of time in nursing homes visiting people with my mom as a child, and I was familiar with the damage a stroke could do. I was so happy to see her come back, knowing how hard she had to work to do so. Later in life, as an adult, my dad had a stroke after having heart surgery. It was devastating for him. He'd been doing so well after the heart surgery, and I'd actually left the hospital. Moments after I got home, my mom called and told me. I rushed back. My dad was just so upset. He wanted to do everything himself, but couldn't. I saw this resignation in his face that I'd never seen before. Later, when he was able to speak again, he told us that he knew he wouldn't be able to work anymore, and he wished he'd died. He spent months in a deep depression, but eventually started to come back around. He learned to speak and walk again, but all he wanted to do was get back to the job he loved and feel useful. Seeing how much Ellen did to come back even with the limitations of the stroke was amazing! She really did convey so much without speaking.
