Күн бұрынCanadian singer, songwriter, dancer, model, and actress Denise Katrina Matthews, professionally known as Vanity was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on January 4, 1959. She was always interested in pursuing a career in singing and acting however, she was constantly discouraged to do so by those around her. That is until Prince came along. He asked her to be the lead singer of a girl group he was putting together named Vanity 6.

She was a patient at the dialysis clinic I worked at years ago. It was a pleasure meeting her and getting to know her. Her whole conversation was always about Jesus Christ and being saved. RIP Denise 🙏

Actually, her religious beliefs were a continuation of her suffering from mental health issues. She was sexually and physically abused as a child, abused drugs, had volatile relationships with men, married an eventual murderer 1 month after she met them, believed that she saw and spoke to Jesus, claimed that she was possessed by demons, and claimed that she had psychic powers. She was set up to be a very unhappy person because of how she was abused as a child. And sadly, she spent her whole short life chasing after happiness and peace but never found it.

I was going through job problems some years ago and I made a Facebook post about it and she encouraged me and told me to pray and let Jesus handle it. It was definitely what I needed to hear at that moment. May her beautiful soul continue to rest in peace ❤️❤️

It's hard to leave worldly things behind to pursue the Lord but I know it can be done cause hes shown me how much hes loves me even thru all my faults and mess ups. Denise is such an inspiration. I can understand that sentiment, but that’s not how a true Christ-led life works. When you surrender to Him, you surrender all and He wipes your slate clean. When she decided to dedicate her life to Christ’s mission, she did so with the understanding that He would provide her with the means necessary to live and further His ministry. You cannot use the tainted fruit of a bad tree for good. 💙

I am not religious but through my vast experiences as a grown adult (I'm age 36 will be 37 this year 2021). I can see why Denise Matthews didn't want to have Vanity attached to her anymore. Because as the years went on, that specific energy of her past would be on her conscious. She decided to let her past self be where it was...in the past.

In the 80’s Denise was our girl. We had posters of her with Vanity 6 on our wall. She was absolutely stunning. I was hoping she would get the help she she needed for her kidney disease, but it was too late. RIP Queen❤️❤️❤️

I remember working at Kinko's Copy in Fremont back in 1997, and she came in to get some prints made. I didn't recognize her at first, but then we started talking about Jesus and how she was a born again Christian. She introduced herself as Denise, and then the more I looked at her I blurted out "Action Jackson!". She laughed and said yes that was her. I was in shock because I was in love with her growing up. I really liked her in The Last Dragon. Rest in Peace Denise, I will always remember our exchange.

I met Denise at a visiting church I attended once. I was a HUGE fan of the movie, “ The last dragon”, and at the time thought she was one of the most beautiful woman in the world. When I was introduced to her, I was starstruck. I remember her being so kind. She looked at me smiling, and opened up her arms to signal a hug. You could feel the genuine love and kindness that exuded from her. She was even more beautiful in person, than any movie I would ever see her in. Her spirit was absolutely radiant and that matches with her physical beauty, was something I will never forget. It broke my heart to hear when she passed 💗

Growing up in the 80s, I thought Denise Katrina Matthews aka Vanity was one of the most beautiful and talented women I had ever seen. I always thought she and Prince were connected. The song Romantic Voyage always gets to me. 😔🙏🏾♥️🕊️

I absolutely loved this woman's femininity. She had a fearlessness on that stage that nobody else during that time of the 80s had the guts to portray and make it look easy. While Im a fan of Nikki Sixx, I really think she would've been good with Slash from Guns'N'Roses. Either way, she will ALWAYS be remembered as one of the best to ever do it. Get ur rest Queen 👑

I thought the way Nikki portrayed her in his book was very disrespectful. It seemed very one sided. He downplayed her talent and at one point said "she claimed to be a backup singer or something for Prince". It's like dude she fronted Vanity 6! Was signed to Motown and had a ton of acting roles. Apparently he could be the only star in his world. I grew up liking Nikki but after hearing that lost all respect for him. He just seemed very misogynistic and full of himself. R.I.P Denise Matthews 💗

@@blahblah606 alot of the times when dealing with an addict, ur not getting the real person, u get the drug fueled, selfish, cold version of the person. He was on mind altering drugs at the time so many things he may have said or done, he wouldn't have done sober. It's not an excuse because it's wrong to treat anyone unkind but being that I have dealt with drugs first hand, u can make ppl hate u cause ultimately, u hate urself at that time.

I didn't initially like Vanity, but I grew to love her work particularly as an actress. I was elated when she became saved and turned her life around. RIP and may God bless her soul.

I met & spoke with ms Matthew's at a church in Richmond in 2014..she was speaking that service.. she was very passionate of her love for Jesus.. afterwards we had a big luncheon and she went and tried to make her way to all of us there..I asked her what was it like to be working with prince. She said" it's like looking at satan and she left it at that.. she was very kind and a sweet soul.. may she rip..

I met her in Dallas on her promotional tour many years ago. I was working with a photographer who was photographing her.. I was up close and personal.. I have to say, she was very nice and truly one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen..still to this day. Her skin was flawless. Her smile was beaming.. her figure was amazing..she really was a Star.. I can totally see why.

Learning about how tragic her early life was, made me very sad. She was so talented and beautiful! I loved listening to her singing, especially Mechanical Emotion and some of her other songs! Drugs become the downfall of many people, but abuse from a parent; the person that you're supposed to trust and learn from; the people who are supposed to love and protect you, is just horrible! It's Evil! I'm happy that she sought out God and turned her life around! Another Angel is singing in God's Heavenly Choir!

I met her in the early 90s she wanted me to go to her church. I met her at a pet store in Fremont, Ca. my sister worked at, she asked where I was going ... I tokd her I was going to the thrift store after and she asked to go with me I thought wow She must be lonely. It made me sad. I felt I could easily be her friend she has a sweet innocent goodness. She was a very sweet person. I wanted to go with her. But my sister said I didn't know her and not to go. I wish I wouldn't have listened to her and gone. But I k we she would call and worry my mother. I wish I could have helped her she needed a true friend. I shouldn't have listened to my big sister I was young. I am glad she Denise had turned to Christ. ❤ RIP See you in heaven my sister in Christ. Yes she stuck up for Prince when I asked if she thought he would make it to heaven? She said we all are sinners that needed a savior and I agreed.

I've felt a deep connection to Denise Matthews after I discovered her only about a year ago (I know-- SUPER late to the game!), but as both a former addict as well as a woman of God, I feel like her story should be more widely known. She was a GOOD WOMAN-- one of the best. Did I mention talented and beautiful, to boot? RIP, sweet Denise.

Love Vanity so much! I have her two albums on vinyl, along with the Vanity 6 album. I listen to her all the time. It's very sad that she lived such a tragic life, but I'm glad she was able to turn her life around and do what she wanted on her own terms. Her music is truly a gift to humanity.

Sad, such a beautiful woman, grew up listening to her and watching her, and like a lot of teenage boys at the time, I had a huge crush on her. Glad she found God in later years, but knowing how she died is a real stark reminder of how destructive drugs are, the main thing is, she admitted and took responsibility for her life, and never blamed anyone else. I truly believe she is happier now and doesn't have to suffer in this cursed world. RIP Denise, you deserve it.
