This episode was unreal. They added a ton of new stuff and so much of it wasn't even in the manga. The animators at Mappa deserve far better than what they've been shown.

For those wondering about the OP playing during itadori's breakdown. The song is meant to celebrate sukuna and the curses and mocking itadori. Also why he shows itadori all the shit he has done and why they pan out to show the destruction, bc sukuna wants to break itadori's spirit. If they had showed the subs for the lyrics alot of people would understand why it was played and why it fit so well for this moment.

killed the tone for me, the lyrics doesn't really make a difference for me because the tone just doesn't match at all, it turns what is meant to be genuinely tragic, somber scene in the manga into comedy

Too bad the sad part is that the staff over at MAPPA are being overworked to hell, so many MAPPA employees are expressing their emotions on Twitter as of late. Nonetheless they delivered a very phenomenal and cinematic episode, along with ethereal soundtracks and godly animations. Big applause to the staffs

The kanji for Malvolent Kitchen that can be translated to shrine, or kitchen (pantry). I think the latter was used to hint about sukuna techniques are related to cooking. fillet/cleave , dismantle/dissect , Fuga (Open, or like opening a stove). and if you missed it. he said before fighting mahoraga "time for a tasting" or same idea with that.

Both “Malevolent kitchen” and “Malevolent shrine” are not wrong translations. In Sukuna’s 伏魔御厨子(Fukuma Mizushi) ,御厨子(Mizushi) stands for “Kitchen of the Imperial Palace” and 厨子(Zushi) stands for “Buddhism Altar”. Sukuna officially loves to eat human(Uraume is his cannibalism chef), So “Kitchen” is not that bad translation for me, native Japanese manga reader. Also, Makora is Japanese word that originated from Sanskrit word Mahoraga. In JP ver manga, Makora is Makora, not Mahoraga.

@@martinbergen2963That’s wrong translations - he literally says shrine in the manga, it’s not stated anywhere that Urame is his cannibalism chef, also his techniques are cleave and dismantle, not filet and dissect - both mistranslated. Another mistranslation is Makora, which is actually Mahoraga. I’d suggest watching the series from 9anime they’re good with translations and have the real terms for episode 17.

@@jack8998 At the very least, Uraume was mentioned that she/he is Sukuna’s chef by manga Author Gege-sensei in official Q&A 2021. I’m surprised that there is a huge gap between original Japanese manga and translated version.

For anyone who's confused with Makora and Mahoraga, Makora is the word used in Buddhism whereas Mahoraga is the original word in Sanskrit (meaning 'great serpent') from where Makora is derived. So both are correct. The Japanese VAs are calling it Makora since that's how it is said in Japanese.

Imagine if Mahoraga did actually adapt to "slices in general" instead of dissect/cleave, like the narrator said. That would've ended even Sukuna. He was lucky there. I see why no sorceror ever tamed it. Literally endless attacks before he can adapt and even then luck was needed. What a demon!

In the manga he did adapt to slices themselves. Even Malevolent Shrine didn't do any damage (the anime showed Sukuna cutting its arm and leg). That's why Sukuna ended it with Fire Arrow.

For some reason lot of people are slow in connecting the dots. Lot of people still did not understand that Zenin clan hereditary technique is Ten shadows, like blood manip is to Kamo and Limitless is to Gojo (plus six eyes). People don't pay attention to dialogue and miss the beauty (Lupa being surprised at the Megumi reveal is wrong in so many levels as well lol)

Technically Gojo did by default. Sukuna had to have someone else create an entirely different technique just to bypass Gojo's limitless. i think what you mean to say is that Mahoraga is the only one who can *see* Sukuna's slashes.

But at the same time if they had stuck with shrine and cleave, we wouldn't have made the connection of cooking with Sukuna's techniques. They should have used this from S1

Sukuna didn't want Megumi to die as he finds him interesting enough and actually wanted Megumi to be his next vessel. Sukuna really doesn't like how he can't fully control Yuji and how Yuji is kind-hearted and selfless by nature.. unlike Yuji, he finds Megumi not only contains special Curse powers, but also less caring of people and more cooperative. Megumi does mission just because he is given it and usually just go with it without getting affected by his own reasonings and emotions. And he doesn't seem to care if he dies. Reason why Gojo pointed out to Megumi during the flashback here that Dying to win and risking death to win are two different thing. Gojo wanted him to understand the value of staying alive to protect and his own life. Not just the type of life like "Oh well, I'll just fight this opponent, I might die in.the process but if that's.the case, i've been prepared to die. Death will eventually come to me anyway sooner or later." Without having the motivation and.perspective like Nanami and Yuji which is "I can't die... no, not here. Not like this. If I die now, My comrades and friends might die.aswell. and I can't let that happen..i'll keep on fighting. While I'm still able... even if it kills me!" Kind.of mind set. In this episode Megumi didn't have to summon Mahoraga given.his situation since he's only up against a not that even strong curse user. Had he not summoned him, Sukuna would've still sensed him.and would go to him as Sukuna keeps on saying "i'll kill everyone here... but 1." And it's Megumi. Since like I said, he wanted him to be his vessel.

Because the reasoning is simple. "If I am going to die, why not take out my enemy with me". Mahoraga is a guarantee way to take the enemy down, unless of course Sukuna or Gojo intervene lol

Reminder, Gojo is strongest because he has RCT, domain, creative blue usage, Sukuna level CE reinforcement etc on top of six eyes and limitless. The old head probably lacked a lot. But yeah, people still somewhat ovverate Makora in the grand scheme of things from 1v1 perspective. But if you manage to tame it, you can use the other 9 shadows with him making the ten shadows user arguable the strongest of all time (provided they manage to learn RCT lol).
